To change a society peacefully is rarely rapid. In the case of the USA ac- cepting Secular Humanism, or at least its machinations, took over a cen- tury. Asking the average person to explain this godless religion will draw a blank.
Yet for over 10 decades via the education system, Secular Humanism has in effect become the defacto national religion – beliefs by which we live. From nearly the beginning of the 20th century, the school system at every level increasingly became the tool to mold American society. Government wittingly or unwittingly gives sanction, although not declared as such, im- plies Humanism is the defacto state religion.That education would be the primary tool was acknowledged in 1930 as the “five-day program of hu- manistic teaching." (Humanism: A New Religion).
That Humanism’s first intent was the war to destroy Christianity was openly stated in 1983 – “The battle for humankind's future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith....The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new – the rotting corpse of Christianity and the new faith of Humanism." ("A Religion for a New Age," The Humanist).
Yet near the end of the Silent generation (born 1927-45), now (1975) in their late 30s and 40s sensed something was amiss, something was under- mining faith in God. Not only was godless evolution being taught as our origin, but the ethics and morality of Humanism was being brought front and center to supplant biblical virtue, the bedrock of the nation’s laws and norms.
Humanism’s pragmatic value system (no absolute standard for anything) was blatantly introduced into the school system to subtly supplant the ab- solute biblical virtues. In 1975, near Omaha, parents sued the LaVista school district for requiring seniors in high school to take a course entitled “Values Clarification.”Eventually school officials removed the course.
However, the Humanist goals were only temporarily sidetracked. Since that time values clarification has been injected into almost all course ma- terials, so it is not immediately noticeable. Most folks under age55 have been taught increasingly with the values clarification principles and meth- ods.
The questions are “What is Values Clarification?” and “How much Hu- manism do you unwittingly use making decisions?” The Psalmist asked “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do” (Ps11:3).
