Our Story

We are a community of di erent nationalities, beliefs and cultures - a community that focuses on family,
respect and empathy. We are Panyadee.
In 2004 a small idea led to great things. Owner Khun Siwapong Leunram and his family were unhappy
with the educational choices that were available at the time on Koh Samui. As the father of two young
children and coming from a family of academics, Khun Siwapong not only knew the value of a good
education, but what a great education can do for any child.
Thus, Panyadee was born.
Over the years we have adapted and grown together as a community and as an educational establish-
ment. Although we have grown as a school, we still hold true to our original values of providing interna-
tional education with a Thai heart. Panyadee is a school that puts academic success, individual growth
and emotional development at the same level of importance.
At Panyadee we are more than a school. We are a community, we are a family.
We are Panyadee.

Early Years

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage Department! Panyadee School’s Foundation Stage has
three di erent levels that serve children from two to ve years old. The Foundation Stage department
utilises British EYFS curriculum to provide an enabling environment and to plan age appropriate, hands
on learning experiences that encourage children to think creatively, engage with one another and to
learn through play. The Foundation department utilises the seven areas of learning whilst creating
learning opportunities for our students.
The seven areas of learning and development guide
the Foundation department’s planning and assesment.

Communication and language
Physical development
Personal, social and emotional development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design

The Foundation Stage outdoor area currently o ers a playground, climbing wall, mud kitchen, dramatic
role play area and soft play area for students. Children are encouraged to take risks throughout the day,
whether it be trying something new, learning through sensory play by getting messy in the mud kitch-
en, or by designing and mastering a balance beam obstacle course! Classrooms o er a range of activity
and choice for students, from painting, maths & literacy centers, to small world play and dramatic role
play. Additionally, Foundation Stage 1 & 2 classes receive daily Thai language lessons, and weekly Music
and PE lessons.
Foundation teachers at Panyadee are committed to creating quality learning opportunities so that our
children will learn, develop new skills and to truly excel as their unique self.

Primary School

The Cambridge international primary curriculum provides us with a curriculum framework of es-
sential elements - the knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action with which young learn-
ers (aged 5 – 11 years) need to equip themselves for successful lives, both now and in the future.
Our rimary curriculum is:
Inquiry-based: Our teaching methods build on learners’ individual knowledge and interests, and
emphasise learning how to learn and how to nd out. Our curriculum incorporates local and
global issues, asking learners to consider the links between themselves and their environment.

Integrated: The subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science,
Information, Communication and Technology, Art, Physical
Education, Music, Global Perspectives, Drama and Thai
are taught through transdisciplinary themes in order
to help students make connections between the
subjects, thereby facilitating more e ective
learning. A unique feature of our curriculum
includes natural, immersive use of our local
language, Thai, in classroom situations and
specialist sessions like music and art.
Individualised: Around the Cambridge
primary framework we have developed
a detailed program re ecting the
diverse composition of our school pop-
ulation and capable of being tailored to
the needs of each individual student.

IOur Primary section is a wonderful place where children come happily to school in the
mornings and leave with a smile on their face at the end of the day, having made tremen-
dous progress in their learning.
At PBISS, we help all learners achieve high academic standards, but also focus on the im-
pactful development of social, emotional and behavioural skills. We are a creative school
and provide plenty of opportunities for personal development, performance and sports.
We complement the curriculum with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, school
trips and community volunteers.
We are proud of our school and our students. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Secondary School

Welcome to Panyadee Secondary School!
The Secondary School at Panyadee provides an environment for its students to achieve
their full potential whilst developing into respectful, caring, global citizens. We encourage
a community feel, where students experience a sense of belonging and connection within
the school, whilst preparing them for life beyond the island.
Students enter the Secondary School at the age of 11 and will spend the rst three years (7
- 9) completing Key stage 3. They will study a broad range of topics which follow the Cam-
bridge curriculum and provide them with the foundational knowledge to continue into
Key Stage 4.
The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme is a framework for increasing educational
success for students in Years 7 to 9. This programme builds on the Primary stage, and devel-
ops student’s knowledge and skills in mathematics, English, science, digital literacy, music,
art and design, and physical education. Students also study geography, history, global
perspectives, Thai and PSHE.

IGCSE & A-Levels

Studying in Years 10 and 11, students complete a two year course in preparation for their
International General Certi cate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations. The IGCSE
course has been designed to include the core subjects and carefully selected additional
subjects which students are able to choose from in order to tailor the course to their inter-
ests.
Many of our students choose to go on to study our Advanced Level quali cations (A-Levels)
in Years 12 and 13. This two year course provides students with the opportunity to select
individual subjects based on their interests and further educational requirements, prepar-
ing them for universities worldwide. Both the A-Levels and IGCSE’s are internationally
recognised quali cations which give students the best opportunities for their future educa-
tion and careers.
CIE is a division of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate which in turn
is part of the University of Cambridge. UCLES has developed and promoted quali cations at
a variety of levels for at least 150 years. CIE was set up in 1998 to administer the expansion
of IGCSE and other international quali cations.

Message From The Head

Dear Parents,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Panyadee, the British
International School of Samui.
At Panyadee, it is our goal to build strong bonds between ourselves
and our families. When we are able to focus on shared goals, we can
more successfully achieve the academic goals which have been
targeted.
To ful ll these academic goals, we have a fantastic team of
enthusiastic, professional teachers who commit to student-centred
approaches in the classrooms. This is further supported by our use of
the Cambridge International curriculum; which is internationally
recognised by universities and employers worldwide.

It is my core belief that a good school should act as a springboard for further opportunities, whether that is changing
school or moving on to university. Irrespective if we have a student for ve or fteen years; it is our intention that they
move on to the next stage with the greatest number of available opportunities open to them and with the highest level of
preparedness.
I have been fortunate to have been at Panyadee since 2006 and in this period we have not just focused upon academic
rigor. It is vitally important that children associate learning with happiness. Therefore, it has always been important for us
to maintain an environment where children are eager to learn but joy is also regularly attained. For us, the key benchmark
is that each day every student should be looking forward to attending school.
I am sure you are looking to nd a school in which you are secure in knowing that your child is in a ‘place to grow’ and will
gain the highest quality of education. You have found that at Panyadee.
Yours sincerely,

Giles Larkman
Headmaster
