A Nonfiction Narrative
by Barbara Wood
One morning in Chicago, something
unusual happened. A coyote walked
into a sandwich shop!

3
No doubt about it—it is very unusual
to see a coyote in a sandwich shop.
4
Many people came to see the coyote.
Needless to say, they were surprised
by what they saw.
5
The coyote was scared—so scared that he
jumped into a drink cooler!
6
Soon some animal care workers came.
They captured the coyote and took him
away. They named him Adrian.
7
They put Adrian in a cage.
8
Then they took him to a new habitat.
They let him loose near a forest. Adrian
ran straight into his new habitat.
9
Many coyotes live in forest habitats.
10
There is plenty of food, water, and
shelter in a forest habitat.
11
Coyotes live in many different habitats.
They live in forests, deserts, and prairies.
12
They can even survive in busy cities,
just as Adrian did.
13
Coyotes can find food in the city.
They capture and eat squirrels and mice.
14
They eat food from trash cans. And,
as this true story shows, they might
even eat sandwiches!
