Supporting the Environment, a new focus area.
The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors have both unanimously
approved adding a new area of focus: supporting the environment.
More than $18 million in Foundation global grant funding has been allocated to environment-related
projects over the past five years. Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment will give
Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change in the world and increase our impact.
Supporting the environment becomes Rotary's seventh area of focus, which are categories of service
activities supported by global grants. It joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention
and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy;
and community economic development.
Grant applications for projects will be accepted beginning on 1 July 2021. Gifts and commitments from
Rotarians and others will be sought to provide global grant support for the new area of focus.
More information about this new cause will be revealed shortly..

3 TRUE HAPPINESS
4
)
*
1 (THE DRIVING FACTOR..)
How many of us want to be successful? All of us!! And why do we want to be successful? Because it gives us
Happiness!!
But for how long?? Yes, it’s a difficult question. Look back to your last success that you achieved and remember
how long you felt happy about it.
Remember when you got a raise from your employer; the happiness lasted for a while.
You got a big order for your business; the happiness lasted for a while.
You won an award; the happiness lasted for a while.
But you wanted the happiness to last longer, didn’t you?
But Why Doesn’t it last longer? Rather how can you make it last longer?
Well, for the answer, we have to go deeper and understand, whether what we are experiencing, is the “True
Happiness”.
Broadly, there are 4 Happiness Chemicals (or hormones) which are said to be the reason for happiness in our
lives. These are;
Dopamine – This is released when you achieve something.
Endorphin – This is released through Exercise and Laughter. It also releases, by dark chocolates, spicy food
and alcohol.
Unfortunately, when it comes to feel happy, we have been focusing more on the above 2 chemicals only. But
we are somewhere missing the next two happiness chemicals which are more powerful.
Oxytocin – This is also called the cuddle hormone. It is released when you feel loved and cared through touch
or hug.
Serotonin – This is released when you feel your significance. And it is strongly felt when you help someone
without expecting anything from them.
Now when we connect the dots, we can see why we see our happiness not lasting too long. Most of our
happiness is driven by first 3 chemicals.
When you feel like you have achieved something, dopamine is released. For eg., when you get a hike in salary,
or when you win a game, you feel happy, but the happiness is very short lived. Similarly, when you watch a
comedy movie and laugh, or when you eat paanipuri, Endorphins are released and you feel happy. But does
that happiness long last? It won’t because it can’t.
But when you feel cared, when someone cuddles you, Oxytocin is released. This happiness is meant to last
quite longer. Because it also relieves your stress levels and makes you feel living. Thus, it becomes challenging
when you stop feeling cared and loved, you lack oxytocin, and you stop feeling good about yourself.
And here comes Serotonin to the rescue. Serotonin is released when we help someone who cannot help us
back. This makes us feel significant. Serotonin is said to be longest lasting happiness hormone. Remember the
last time when you helped someone. How did you feel about yourself? You still remember the moment and
feel happy about it. Don’t you?
So, if you want to feel “True Happiness” and want it to last longer, start experiencing happiness by doing
something for someone who cannot give us back. Joining Rotary, and participating actively in the service
projects, is one great way to release Serotonin.

Even in the middle of a pandemic, the zeal
in the hearts of Rotaractors is not some-
thing that burns out or dies down.
Rotaract District 3141 has beautifully
arranged every legacy project even
digitally, still not taking away the essence
of those. What is more, they've introduced
and executed new projects with the help
of technology - thus keeping Rotaraction
breathing and spreading positivity in a
global crisis situation.
It started with digital version of GOALS - a
7 day training programme for the Presi-
dents and Secretaries following a magical
Harry Potter wand this year. It was full of
activities, games, competitions - all of
which had their own special takeaways.
The event was also honoured by sessions
of the PDRRs and interactive panel
discussions.
Overall, it was a perfect mix of entertainment and learning. The feedbacks have been wizardry
positive and the event was also a great success! The Editorial team came up with an enchant-
ing newsletter that worked its spell and made the readers fall in love.
The training session for the core teams of clubs followed GOALS - a 2 hour session with every-
one's favourite theme - 'FRIENDS.' The sessions showed the participants 'how to be there for
their club in their own special ways'. It was a super interactive session and the topping was
that they got to know their batch mates for this amazing year that lies ahead!
5th of July was one of the most significant days of Rotaract District 3141. The handover cere-
mony was conducted on Facebook live. The incoming of council team was celebrated with
Railway Station announcements revolving around Aamchi Mumbai. It was followed by
announcements of various teams and the launch of upcoming projects like Wanderers Guide,
Yellow Pages, Global Fusion, etc.
Just when you thought that was all the Pandora's Box, the Editorial team came up with
'Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si'. A platform to meet some of the most influential people of the
LGBTQ+ community, listen to their stories and interact with them! It had a panel of exception-
al speakers and a footfall of approximately 90+ participants from Rotaract and Non-Rotaract
community and people from the LGBTQ+ spectrum. It was an exceptional session and
brought to light several insights about the community. The participants were given takeaway
magazines at the end of the session.

It’s said, “Sometimes the worst place you can be at, is in your own head!.
The Indian equivalent being “Man changa to kathoti mein ganga”.
Sadly, in today’s times multiple factors have creeped in lives that have
affected the mental health, affecting almost up to 20% of children globally
(WHO website), adults are not spared either.
Recent deaths by suicide, increasing stress levels, etc. have all brought to
fore one of the most
neglected health issues of recent times – #mentalhealthmatters
As if having a premonition of times to come, DGE Sunnil Mehra, Visioned the
avenue of “Inner Space” for the year 2020-21, addressing the much needed
mental wellness issues with focus on children.
Thursday, July 2nd, 2020, RI District 3141 ushered in a historic moment
when it digitally signed a 2 year MOU with Mpower (a Neerja Birla Initiative)
– a collaboration to promote mental health awareness across
the community.
Jointly signed by District Governor Rtn Sunnil Mehra ,DGE Rtn Rajendra
Agarwal, District Project Director , Rtn Mala Mehta , Lead Club, Rotary Club
of Bombay Hanging Garden’s President Rtn Deepak Zaveri and Mpower’s
Chairperson Mrs. Neerja Birla , in the presence of DGN Rtn Sandip Agarwalla,
District official Dr. Manish Motwani , core district team members of Inner
Space , and members of RCBHG , Rotary has , once again committed itself to
work towards a happier and healthier society by destigmatising mental
health issues through awareness generation and community programs.
So what will the Avenue Do?
Mental health awareness workshops will be conducted by MPower in
schools and colleges adopted by Rotary Clubs. Professional
managed counselling cells would also be established for students needing
additional mental health support – Mrs Nera Birla’s contribution towards the
cause.
With physical distancing being the new norm, Mpower developed webinars
for various mental health issues like depression, stress management, anger
management, managing relationships when in distress etc.as it may be
recalled that DG Sunnil, perceiving mental health to be the need of the hour,
more than ever, began these webinars in the Smart Year itself. A district
event, addressed by Mrs. Neerja Birla and Dr. Zirak Marker, and a separate
webinar for Rotaractors was organised to address anxiety related issues
arising from the lockdown.
How can Clubs participate?
Rotary clubs, Innerwheel clubs, Rotaractors , Interactors can identify schools
/ colleges / and community groups interested in holding such mental health
awareness webinars and reach out to the Inner Space Avenue Team who will
arrange the same through MPower at NO COST.
Summarizing, we can say that
IT’S OK - NOT TO BE OK, BUT IT’S NOT OK - NOT TO SEEK HELP”.
Let’s take this opportunity and reach out to our “Inner Space” joyfully.

Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and inner wheel members alike and has solicited good amount of
curiosity and willingness to host these awareness programs, and as the times demand,

* (MANDALA)
1
The word ‘Mandala’ comes from Sanskrit, language meaning
“Circle”. It’s an ancient spiritual and ritual symbol in many
cultures and religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism
where it symbolizes ‘Universe’.
Mandala becomes a window for exploring and connecting
with one’s inner self. It represents a connection between one’s
inner world and that with the outer reality.
It’s a medium, of self-representation, self-expression and
self-discovery. It facilitates the journey within.
Mandala is Spiritual, Therapeutic and Meditative tool ….
Drawing a Mandala is very relaxing and grounding. The
process can silence your mind and allows you to focus on its
beauty in the intricate patterns.
It improves focus and concentration. It’s a great tool to
experiencing and lives the Flow moment.
Used widely for affirmations, gratitude, spiritual, meditative and mindful exercises. One just needs to dive
into the sacred circles to connect with oneself and to relax.
One doesn’t require fine artistic skills to attempt making a Mandala. You just need some patience, lots of
love and a feeling of gratitude while getting onto this beautiful journey. You can choose different medi-
ums that you relate with while making a Mandala ranging from Paper and pen to Canvas and brush.
Making your own personal Mandala can be fun and inspiring. You do not need to be an artist to start
with your mandala. A Mandala can be made by using the repetitive shapes, objects, forms.
Take time to answer basic questions like – Why am I making this mandala? Is it a personal mandala or a
simple one? What do I want to reflect on…..my current state of mind or my desirable state of mind?
Mandalas are everywhere –
Our Nature and Universe gives us beautiful examples of
Mandala.
Solar system, ripples in a pond, our eye composition, the
rings inside any stem, and the rings on the bark of a tree
are some of such examples.
We have to just look around and will witness many
examples of Mandala that nature gives us and those we
use in day-to-day life.

Room no.711 -Rotary’s birthplace
The number 711 has a very special significance for
Rotary. Room 711 of the old Unity Building, formerly
located at 127 North Dearborn Street in downtown
Chicago, Illinois, USA, was the birthplace of Rotary
International.
That historic room, which was the office of engineer
Gus Loehr, was the location of that first meeting when
Paul Harris met with several friends to discuss his new
idea of a club for professionals and businessmen.
A few Chicago Rotarians set about to preserve the room and restore it to its 1905 authenticity. For years, Room
711 was preserved as a miniature Rotary museum by Rotarians around the world who voluntarily belonged to
and contributed annually to the “Paul Harris 711 Club,” which provided funds for leasing, maintenance and
preservation.
In 1989, the Unity Building was about to be torn down. Members of the 711 Club carefully dismantled the
landmark room and placed its contents in storage. There it stayed until 1994, when the recreated Room 711
found a permanent home, and this piece of the Rotary heritage is preserved at the RI World Headquarters in
Evanston.
