My grandfather used to live in a wooden house in a small village. He did not use
to have an electric rice cooker. He used to cook using firewood. There were no stoves
and cooking gas. The villagers did not use to have electric lamps so everybody used to
light a kerosene lamp. My grandfather used to have a big bicycle to get around as every
household didn’t use to own a car.

It was around 1.00 a.m. when Sam heard someone scream, “Fire! Fire!”.
全方位系列 英文 6A 版权所有 · 侵权必究
Sam’s parents quickly got him and his brother to leave their apartment immediately.
All the people living in the same apartment block were also running down the stairs.
Some mothers were carrying their babies. Sam saw some fathers holding their
young ones by the hand. The staircase was jammed with people. The children
were crying. Sam saw an old man trip and fall but he managed to get up. He
didn’t see anyone carry other things with them. At that time, everyone was just
thinking of getting out of the building. Sam could see from the people’s faces that
they were frightened. Many had gathered on the road by now. Sam looked at the
apartment block. Then, he saw smoke on the fourth floor. Not long afterwards, two
fire engines arrived. Four firefighters quickly ran inside the building. After about forty
minutes, Sam didn’t see any more smoke. The people waited for a while before
the firefighters said that it was safe for them to go back. It was a real emergency,
and for Sam, it was so scary. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Write the answers in the table.
