Alan was at home alone one night. His parents had gone out to visit some
relatives. He was reading when it started to rain cats and dogs. Suddenly, there
was a f ash of lightning and the lights went off.
The room was as black as pitch. Feeling scared of the darkness, Alan groped for
the drawer and felt around it for a torch. He switched on the torch as soon as he got it.
With the torch in his hand, he slowly went down the stairs. While he was
walking across the living room to check the meter box, he stepped on a skateboard,
and all hell broke loose. He lost his balance and fell on the f oor, crying out in pain.
Just then, the power supply was restored. Poor Alan. He got up and limped back
to his bedroom. Still hurting from the fall, he decided to call it a day. He hoped that,
by the next morning, the pain would have disappeared.
