WRITE AND PASS Year 4 - Unit 3: In the past


Instructions for teachers:
Divide students into groups and ask them to write a story in the simple past tense.
Each group consists of six students (this can be adjusted according to class size).
Ask the f rst person in the group to write the name of the character on a piece of paper (they may
use their classmate’s name or create one). Then, fold the paper once so no one else can see the
name. Pass it to the person on the right.

Instructions for teachers:
Divide students into groups of f ve.
Prepare some cards with the names of animals.
A student from each group has a card pinned on his or her back.
The student then sits in the middle of the group.
He or she is given a chance to ask the other group members f ve questions.

After I watered the plants, it rained. What a joke! Now I understand why people say, “As unpredictable
as the weather.” I could have saved some money on the water bill. When Mum saw that I was upset, she 1
said, “It’s OK.” Suddenly, my younger brother blurted out, “Sister is too hard-working !” What a thing to say!
Anyway, after the rain had stopped, I went out to the garden again. I heard a lot of birds chirping. Then, I
saw the sparrows! They tweeted so loudly as if they were trying to cheer me up. I took a deep breath and
said, “I’m doing f ne, Buddies!”

Mum cooked us a scrumptious dinner and Dad bought a big tub of ‘Musang King’ ice cream. All of us enjoyed
the special dessert. It was SO YUMMY!!! Now, I feel like having some more. Shh…shh… My brother is in his
room... I’ll tiptoe to the kitchen now.

So, overall, what kind of day has it been for me today? Boring? No, lah! Fabulous? Yes! 3
