The match ended with frustration and disappointment for Brad and his teammates.
They failed to seize the day and therefore they lost the basketball game. They started
blaming each other for their failure.
The coach heard them arguing and interrupted, “Stop bickering like sore losers.
Losing is part and parcel of sports. Blaming and fi ghting each other is a recipe for
disaster. Instead, learn to be resilient. When you fail, get up and try again until you
succeed. Work as a team. Communicate, coordinate and fi nd a strategy that will help
you win.”














The words of the coach inspired Brad and his teammates. They practised hard for
the next match. On the day of the match, they played their best as a team. Their hard
work bore fruit when they eventually won the match. Brad and his teammates realised
how right their coach was. Failure made them strong and determined to do better, as the
saying goes, ‘With failure comes great success’.
