Articles are words used to modify nouns. There are only three articles, namely ‘a’, ‘an’ Grammar

Indefinite articles 不定冠词

The indef nite articles ‘a’ and ‘an’ are used to refer to an unspecif ed thing or quantity. It
is also used to introduce something or someone we have not mentioned before. They are
used when we do not know which thing we are talking about.
不定冠词“a”和“an”用于指不特定事物或数量,以及介绍我们之前没有提过的人物或
事物。当我们不确定我们所指的是哪件事物时,我们必须使用不定冠词。

Ways to use indef nite articles:
以下是使用不定冠词的方法:
‘a’ + nouns beginning with a consonant or with a ‘you’ sound.
“a”+ 以辅音或“you”发音开头的单数名词。

‘an’ + nouns beginning with a vowel or with a silent ‘h’.

The def nite article ‘the’ is used to refer to either a singular or plural noun as well as
uncountable nouns. It refers to a specif c thing or quantity and introduces the specif c thing
or people that we have mentioned before.
定冠词“the”用于指单数、复数以及不可数名词。它用于指特定事物或数量,以及介绍
我们之前已经提过的事物或人物。


We use ‘The’ when we want to indicate or refer to:

something unique or when there is only one such thing in the world.

e.g. The sun is shining brightly today. The stars are twinkling in the sky.

something which has already been mentioned.

The indef nite articles and the def nite article can be used with different kinds of nouns as
shown in the table below:

The term zero article is used when a noun is not preceded by the indef nite article ‘a’ or
‘an’ or the def nite article ‘the’.

B Nouns 名词


A noun is a word which names a person, a place or a thing. Every person, place or thing
is identif ed with a name, without which we would not be able to communicate with or
understand one another.
名词用于表示人物、地方或事物的词语。每个人、地方或事物都赋予一个名字。如果没

A noun can be a common noun or a proper noun.

A common noun is a name that refers to a person, a place or a thing in general. They
do not begin with capital letters unless they start a sentence.

词语的第一个字母就必须使用大写。

A proper noun is a name that identif es a particular or a specif c person, place or thing.
They always begin with capital letters.

Common nouns can be countable or uncountable and singular or plural.

Countable nouns are nouns which can be counted. They can be used with quantif ers
such as ‘a’, ‘an’, ‘the’, ‘some’, ‘any’, ‘a few’ and ‘many’.

“some”“any”“a few”和“many”一起使用。
Uncountable nouns are nouns which come in a state or quantity which cannot be counted.

Singular nouns are nouns that stand for one person, animal, thing or place. Grammar

Plural nouns can be formed in the following ways:

Concrete nouns refer to actual things that we can touch, see, taste, feel and hear. They
can also be countable, uncountable, common, proper and collective nouns.

具体名词是指我们可以触碰、看见、品尝、感觉或听见的实际物体。这些名词可以是可
数或不可数、普通或专有以及集合名词。


Abstract nouns refer to things that we cannot see, touch, hear, smell or taste. Many abstract
nouns are uncountable. They are often feelings, ideas, emotions or concepts.

Collective nouns are nouns that refer to groups of people, animals or things. They are taken

Before we talk about possessive pronouns, we have to learn about possessive adjectives.
