TABLE OF CONTENTS 1
As Iranian American women, we each have a unique set of
gifts that empower us to move forward, unite our community,
and nurture and transform the lives of those we touch. Since
the Iranian American Women Foundation’s inception, we
have further learned how to assertively and effectively move
our efforts forward and transform our own lives as well as the
lives of our peers and future generations.
By marrying our passion for transforming our own lives as
well as the lives of others, we are able to uplift ourselves,
enrich our communities, and inspire our next generation. We
started the Iranian American Women Foundation (IAWF) to
ignite this passion throughout our community.
Along with your unprecedented supported and commitment,
we look forward to a continued celebration of our successes,
empowerment of our young adults, and enhanced connections
throughout our community.
Sincerely,
Mariam Khosravani
Founder & President

JUNE 2016 - ONLINE
Up Close Va Personal was a summer storytelling project to collectively explore our passions, our purpose, and our power
online as Iranian American women. This story project is the first element of an evolving digital strategy around our
collective work and contributions as we scale the impact and reach of the Iranian American Women Foundation beyond
the leadership conferences.
Since 2011, the IAWF Conferences have been a unifying force for our community. But in 2016, we need a unifying
strategy for the digital age. Today, Iranian American women should be interacting across social media to give voice to
the important stories in our community and begin engaging around a digital platform. We might not have a demographic
boom but we do command buying power, knowledge, and expertise. Now, we have to learn how to embrace and
celebrate our individual contributions and seek a collective purpose. With all the means of distribution these days what
really matters is content.

“AFTER PARTY”
OCTOBER 2016
On October 29th, the IAWF NorCal chapter hosted a
contemporary art exhibition curated by Fouladi Projects.
“After Party” featured paintings, photography and video
installations by Afshin Chizari, Anahita Ghazvinizadeh,
Babak Kazemi, Elham Rokni and Aram Tahmasebi.
Award-winning filmmaker Anahita Ghazvinizadeh
attended the exhibition as the chapter’s special guest,
speaking to the evocative interactive visualizations that
the intersection of art, mixed media and cinema bring to
contemporary Iranian arts and culture.
“After Party” refers to events that transpired after The
Iranian Revolution. Although the revolution started with
a significant amount of excitement, rapid changes in a
relatively short period of time have shaped a complex
post revolutionary experience. The pieces of art in the
exhibition were created by artists born in Iran after 1979.
Some of the artists grew up during the eight year long
Iran Iraq war, while others have memories of immigration
and dislocation. Now, there is the hopeful and rebellious
new Internet generation, the Iranian millennials, that the
world has yet to see.

MENTORSHIP TO
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
IAWF also provides a year-long Mentorship Program to empower youth in our community through direct interaction
between a mentor and mentee. The program is designed for mentors with highly valued professional experience who
provide expert guidance for the next generation of women. A strong commitment to the professional growth of their
mentee is required, along with careful cultivation of a unique one-on-one relationship. Mentees build strong ties with
mentors by sharing all aspects of their journeys, from the frustrations to the success stories. In this supportive and
collaborative atmosphere, our Mentorship Program thrives by offering a refreshingly honest and grounded experience
not found in most mentorship programs today. By utilizing diverse approaches grown out of trust and a common cultural
heritage, a strong and unfaltering confidence is built in the young leader in training.
