1. BUSINESS OPERATION
Unilever includes a product type divisional organizational structure. The organization is split
into components supporting their product focus. As an example, the corporation has a division for
personal care products and another division for home care products. These are some main
characteristics of Unilever’s organizational structure; product departmentation and geographic
departmentalize
Product Departmentation. One of the foremost common ways during which businesses grow
is by expanding the merchandise mix. If the organization is successful in expansion, several product
lines may attain such high sales volume that every product category or line could also be a separate
division. Large organizations like Kirloskar, Hindustan Unilever, and Godrej have managed such
expansion of product lines effectively by creating separate departments or divisions for the assorted
products. Under product departmentation, one manager, often observed because the product
manager, is delegated authority over all activities required to supply and market that product. The
main focus within the product department, therefore, shifts on to the merchandise and every one the
activities associated with the assembly and marketing of the merchandise. As against functions within
the functional department, basic products or services become the first or major departments within
the product departmentation as may well be seen within the following figure.
UNILEVER ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCT CHART
DIAGRAM 1
There are some advantages of product departmentation which place emphasis on the
essential products, the success of which is critical to the survival of the organization. Secondly, since
all revenues and costs are assigned to a specific product, cost centers are often established. High profit
areas are often encouraged and low/unprofitable product lines are often dropped. Thus, responsibility
for cost reduction and profits are often established at the division level. Lastly proper coordination of
all functional areas are often achieved as all the functional managers work as a team under close
supervision of the merchandise manager. Since the department or division is multifunctional, it often
operates like an independent division or company within the massive company.
Page | 5
Geographic Departmentalize. Geographic divisions are a minor feature of Unilever’s
organizational structure. The company uses this structural characteristic to support regional
strategies. As an example, Unilever’s marketing strategies for Europe are different from strategies
applied for Asian commodity markets. Also, this corporate structure feature is used to analyze the
company’s financial performance. Unilever’s corporate structure maintains the geographic divisions
which are AMET (Africa, Middle East, Turkey) / RUB (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) / Asia, The Americas and
Europe.
UNILEVER ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE CHART
DIAGRAM 2
An advantage of Unilever’s organizational structure is its support for development and
innovation. As an example, each product type division has its semi-autonomous capabilities to develop
products that directly suit the requirements in commodity market segments. This corporate structure
is additionally advantageous because it enables Unilever to differentiate its products despite the large
size of its global operations.

Sourcing units and distribution centers: The CEO, Alan Jope mentioned that each one of the
sourcing units and distribution centers will apply specialist tiered protocols to protect their workers
while supporting business continuity. Country leadership teams will still monitor carefully and have
interaction with site leads as appropriate. Strict site protocols for hygiene and social distancing also
are being put in site. All field sales employees should connect with customers virtually wherever
possible and minimize the utilization of conveyance if a customer visit is important.
DIAGRAM 3
Office-based roles: All office-based employees globally should work from home. Any exceptions
(which we expect to be few and much between, and most likely thanks to the necessity to access
data-intensive systems) must be approved by the country head. The only country where this doesn't
apply is in China, where people are starting to return to figure per national controls.
R&D: For R&D colleagues who work in laboratories or pilot plants on essential activities, protocols
are now in development and will be shared by R&D site leads. It is likely that some R&D roles will
follow the office-based protocols and some will follow the Sourcing Unit rules.
Unilever team are continuing to support global and native authorities by donating hygiene products
to support the fight against coronavirus and that we are going to be further stepping-up these
efforts within the days ahead.
As a CEO he acutely aware that these changes to our working arrangements will have an enormous
impact on our lives. None of the measures are taken without careful thought and consideration
about what this may mean for all folks, and that I want to reassure you that we will support you
through this change. (unilever.com, 2020)

JOB POSITION
With the internet, we can do anything like promote or advertise for our own products. Hence,
Unilever promotes products through articles, social media, ads either on Instagram, youtube and
more. With this online marketing, our company can increase purchases and monthly sales targets.
One of the biggest benefits of online marketing is that it is cost effective. Online marketing helps our
company to save money and obtain more leads. So, we want to find talented and creative employees
for graphic designers in our company. Graphic designer is a person engaged in the graphic design and
graphic arts spheres. He or she creates designs through image composition, motion graphics, or

though. This digital interview involves recording and uploading your answers to pre-set questions.
Many students report finding this strange at first,so it’s worth practising beforehand, recording your
answers to typical interview questions,to get used to the process. The interview itself may also
include a few practice questions so take advantage of these. Unilever deliberately doesn’t give you
much information on what to expect from the digital interview. All it tells you is that the interview
will involve three short hypothetical questions (hypothetical questions typically ask you how you
would respond if ‘X’ happened) and a business case ,asking you to solve ‘real-world problems using
Unilever scenarios’. This is because the interview is designed to assess :
● Your problem-solving ability. How do you approach these scenarios? Can you think on the
spot and process new information quickly?
● Your research and knowledge about Unilever and your business thinking.

equipment and software. The most important things they can coordinate with outside agencies, art
services, web designer, marketing, printers and colleagues as necessary. Graphic designers
need to have speaking skills because they need to be communicating with clients about layout and
design. Graphic designers also need to think creatively to produce a work and the work. This is
because they need to create a wide range of graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company
logos, and websites with software such as photoshop. Other than that is reviewing final layouts and
suggesting improvements when necessary.
Advantages that you will get from this job are your employment isn’t tied to just one industry.
Companies across a huge variety of industries need to promote their brands. This means that they
need logos, brand guidelines and tons of other important visual materials to support them. This
means there’s plenty of opportunity to work for clients across a wide variety of industries.
Furthermore, you can work in multiple environm You have many specialties to choose from
Graphic designers can specialize in a certain type of design if they’d like typography, web design,
illustration, user experience design, 3D packaging and more. Others limit themselves by only using
one palette or specific materials. A specialization will make you an in-demand team member or
freelancer; however, if you’re skilled in a variety of these areas, your versatility can help your
employability. You can avoid heavy physical work. While your work as a graphic designer can be
mentally demanding, you will still not have to do heavy physical work.
In turn, you will often have more energy left when you come home from work compared to welders,
roofers or construction workers who have to work in a heavy physical manner all day long and will
often come home tired and without any motivation to meet up with people after work or to do
other fun things. As a graphic designer, you will also always have to stay up-to-date with the latest
technologies. In fact, if you don’t always learn, you will likely become obsolete pretty soon and will
also lose many clients. While this can become a serious issue and it is quite challenging to always
adapt to new conditions, you will still be able to learn a lot and this can not only help you for your
professional, but also for your private life since you will be able to leverage this knowledge when it
comes to helping out your friends and so on.The average salary for a graphic designer is RM2,374
per month in Malaysia. Salaries vary depending on the sector of employment and your experience
and reputation.

Job specification
Most graphic design professions require a diploma in graphic design, arts/design, or creative
multimedia as a minimum requirement. Although you may work as a graphic designer without a
formal education, your chances of finding an employer who will provide on-the-job training are
limited. Apart from technical skills you'll need to show:
● excellent communication skills to interpret and negotiate briefs with clients
● good presentation skills and the confidence to explain and sell ideas to clients and
colleagues
● time management skills and the ability to cope with several projects at once
● accuracy and attention to detail when finalising designs
● being open to feedback and willing to make changes to your designs
● effective networking skills to build contacts.
For work experience, internship or placement experience is extremely useful, especially if you have
a reference who can recommend you and provide evidence of what you've done. The most valuable
work experience comes from involvement in a live project, along with building a portfolio of your
work. Aside from talent, you must have good personality traits. That’s how we attract people to
become your clients. A designer's job is to communicate a client's story, brand and ideas, but you'll
also need excellent communication skills to present, charm and negotiate for your work. It’s
imperative to remain professional in tricky situations and to be clear with a client on the brief. You
won’t get far in design if you don’t have a love of art or an interest in the world around you.
Designers love to look beyond the surface of things, to explore both the minute detail and the big
picture. In graphic design, you have to be open-minded, willing to try new things and comfortable
taking advice from unexpected sources. Great designers often share pieces of themselves in their
work, so you can’t be afraid to expose yourself . A little self-doubt can be a good thing in the design
world. It's self-doubt that ensures you are continually assessing your decisions and striving to do
better. It’s healthy to question and challenge yourself. As a designer it takes patience to let an idea
develop, work on communication and try out creative alternatives before getting to the result.

3. Tips working from home
Starting around March 2020, more people than ever before began working from home, and
quite suddenly. Organizations and individuals didn’t have time to prepare for remote work or
think about the best ways to transition teams, processes and culture to an online-only
environment. No one knew how long the COVID-19 pandemic and thus mandatory remote
work would last. Everyone who works remotely has to figure out when to work, where to work
and how to create boundaries between work and personal life. What about office equipment,
career development, training opportunities and building relationships with colleagues?
Working remotely, especially when working from home most of the time, means figuring out
these issues and others. Here are the tips for leading a better and more productive remote-
work life. (pcmag.com, 2021)
DIAGRAM 8
What is the best thing about working from home? Most probably, the level of comfort. But,
do you know that this comfort can come at the cost of lost productivity, focus and target
goals? You might sit at any place, start working on your task list, and all of a sudden, a movie
or an ad plays on TV. What is your instant reaction? You turn around and take a glimpse, thus
creating a distraction. It is likely possible to happen every now and then if you choose a
random spot to work. Distractions will flow in every way. Therefore, having a particular space
Page | 15
all to yourself will do a great deal. A dedicated workspace will enable you to keep yourself
oriented to your work by providing an office-esque environment. Because in the end,
concentration is the key to effective outcomes. (blog.vantage circle.com, 2021)
When you go into an office every day, you typically adhere to a routine with fairly consistent
start and end times. Those lines are blurred when you work from home. For some, this may
make it hard to stay on track. Because of that you need to set a schedule. The challenge is
compounded when you add in new responsibilities the coronavirus pandemic has introduced.
For others who already maintain long hours to accommodate heavy workloads, the lack of a
schedule can make it even harder to maintain work-life “balance”. Before you establish a start
time, think about your morning routine. Allow plenty of time for the things you do to get your
day off to a good start, such as eating breakfast and taking a shower, if possible. Consider your
evening routine as well. Make sure you make time for wellness throughout your day. (ccl.org,
2020)
The way to increase your performance working at home is to be proactive and regular exercise
can help you be that. Adopting the habit of doing exercise is beneficial for both your personal
and professional life. You increase blood flow to the brain while you workout, which further
helps to sharpen your mind and keep you alert. The whole concept of work from home has
given rise to social isolation which has affected mental health of people to a great extent. In
such a case, staying fit should be considered as a topmost-priority. Exercise heightens your
endorphin levels which boosts your happiness, enjoyment and interest levels-all of which are
important for producing good results at work & life. Try to take some time out and exercise,
even if it is for 15 minutes. It prepares you to take on the challenges throughout the day.
Generally, when you work from home, you might not get the motivation to exercise daily.
What you need is a push from yourself for your physical wellbeing. (blog.vantage circle.com,
2021)
Lastly, communication is one of the biggest challenges when working from home. It can be
difficult for remote workers to get used to sending chat messages or calling colleagues rather
than stopping by their desks. You may become less of a team player when working from home,
Page | 16
depending on your working situation and the time zone you work in. A good way to improve
communication when working from home is to use team software and apps, such as internal
chats or programs such as Slack or Asana. These will not help you stay in touch with colleagues
but also ask for a second opinion when needed and get more organized with your tasks. The
State of Remote Work 2020 by Buffer revealed that 20 % of remote employees find
collaboration and communication being the biggest challenge when working from home,
together with loneliness. To sum up, improving communication can greatly help in increasing
productivity when working from home. Use team chats, talk about your daily tasks, ask for
second opinions and be more effective during the day. (blog.apploye.com, 2020)
