AMAZING ANIMALS Unit 8 Let's learn about amazing animals around us!


GROUP TASK 1 AMAZING Animals


TASK 1 Discuss and describe the animals by using 3 suitable adjectives.


REMEMBER! ADJECTIVES are used to describe NOUNS/VERBS Example: big animal hard shell strong wings move slow run fast


Gorillas are herbivorous. Gorillas are very large and heavy. Their heights are between 1.25 and 1.8 metres, weights between 100 and 270 kg, and their long arms can reach 2.6 metres. They also have four strong arms and legs. They live in troops in thick jungle. Gorillas usually live 35–40 years in the wild. Gorillas usually eat stems, bamboo shoots and juicy fruits. Some gorillas also love to eat termites and ants, and break open termite nests to eat the larvae. Let's gorilla read!


elephant Elephants are the biggest animals on land. They have long tusks to dig and find food. They also have large and thin ears. They have long trunks too. The trunks can grow up to 2 metres long. They ' ve got grey, thick skin. There are two types of elephants, the Asian elephants and the African elephants. Elephants are herbivore. They eat green leaves, twigs and bamboos. An elephant needs to drink 210 litres of water everyday!


tiger Tigers are the largest wild cats in the world. Tigers are carnivores, eating only large mammals such as deer, wild pigs, antelope and buffalo. Tigers are good swimmers! They love cool water and spend many times cool off in pools or streams. They might be a big and heavy but they can run very fast. Every tiger has different unique stripes which makes they are unique. They live in thick jungle but nowadays they are at risk of extinction. Most tigers are kept and taken care in zoos all around the world.


hippo Hippos are really big. They are the third largest animal on land after the elephants and the rhinos. An adult hippo ' s weight can reach 4,500 kilogram! Hippos can 't swim or even float but they spend most of their time in water. Hippos are herbivore. They eat the plants that grow by the side of rivers and lakes such as green, fresh ferns and grasses. Hippos use powerful back teeth to crush and grind their food. But hippos also have those huge spiky teeth at the front. These aren 't for eating, but actually to use as weapons to protect themselves from enemies! These big teeth are often used to scare other hippos away!


camel A camel is a large animal with a long neck and one or two humps on its back. The one humped is called Arabian camels and two humped is called Bactrian camels. They have long eyelashes to keep sand out of their eyes. They also have thick skin on their chest and knees, so they can comfortably sit in very hot sand. Camels can drink up to 40 gallons in one time. They are also very strong and can carry up to 400 kilograms for 40 kilometres a day!


panda Giant pandas are black and white bears. In the wild, they are found in thick bamboo forests, high up in the mountains. These magnificent mammals are omnivores. They eat small animals and fish and most of all, bamboo. They usually live around 30 years old. Baby pandas are born pink and very small in size, measure about 15cm – that’ s about the size of a pencil! Pandas do not hibernate. When winter comes, they just move to a warmer place and keep on eating and eating!
