How to become a better Project
Management Guru?

As the six sigma methodology becomes more and more popular throughout
the world, many professionals have become interested in entering the field of
project management. They often ask the question – “How to become a better
Project Management Guru?”. In this article we will talk about the features of
our Six Sigma green belt Certification which teaches how to do exactly that.

1. Facilitate Effective Communication course –

The responsibilities of a project management guru are many and varied. He
can be a good project management guru only if he recognizes the fact that
communication is the single biggest factor which determines the success or
failure of a project. This fact is repeated throughout the Six Sigma certification.

Without good, clear, and transparent communication the team members
working together on a project will not be able to cooperate and collaborate
with each other effectively. We are all after all human beings, and as human
beings we all have different methods and ways of processing information.

If we are not provided the required information according to those ways and
methods, or in a form which is compatible with those ways and methods, we
will not be able to process that information effectively and as a result we will
not be able to utilize it effectively. How to present information properly is
taught in the Six Sigma certification.

What this will lead to in a project is confusion, chaos, uncertainty, doubt, and
the constant overhanging and mounting fear of missing the project deadline.
Thus it is of paramount importance that the project manager make all the
efforts in his power to facilitate effective communication in a project.

2. Module on Managing Expectations With Your
Project Stakeholders –

Any project does not appear on its own out of thin air. It has to be started from
scratch and in order to be taken from start to finish and in order to be
completed successfully, every project requires a certain amount of resources
and manpower. These things do not come for free and always have costs
associated with them, often costs which are massive and the payment of
which is outside the power of average individuals.

So in order to meet those costs and fulfill those requirements, most projects
require the backing of big sponsors. These sponsors can be corporate or
government entities. Now these sponsors are not big monolithic entities but
rather are composed of rich, wealthy, and influential individuals. The Six
Sigma green belt Certification discusses how to attract big sponsors.

They are called stakeholders because they have a vested interest in the
success of the project. They often place very high stakes on a project in the
form of investments of large amounts of capital, energy, time, and manpower.
If they think that the project is not going to give a sufficiently high return on
their investments they may decide to pull out and cancel the funding for the
project. One can learn what to do in case a project stakeholder pulls out of a
project by getting the Six Sigma green belt Certification.

Thus, it is essential that the project management guru keep the project
stakeholders in the loop about every major and minor decision of the project
and also that he keep taking their feedback on what direction a project should
take.

3. Module on Creating a Communication Plan –

It is very dangerous to communicate on the go and haphazardly in a project.
Many a times the team members may not have a sufficiently high level of
clarity about what the other team members mean when they use certain
terms. The team members can easily misunderstand and misinterpret the
words to mean something other than what the original person intended. In
order to learn how to avoid this one should take Six Sigma training.

This might sow discord within the team and also hurt the team members
morale and determination. In order to prevent this the project management
guru should make sure to make a detailed and comprehensive communication

plan at the beginning of the project itself and brief all the team members on it.
There is a full chapter dedicated to teaching how to create a communication
plan in the Six Sigma training.

4. Module on Controlling the Business Process –

If the business processes are not maintained at a high quality, the quality of
the output, namely the goods and services, will suffer. If customers receive
poor quality goods and services, the company can lose all the trust and
reputation they have built over the years and this can result in massive losses
of income. So a project management guru should do his best to maintain a
strict control on the standards of the business processes of a company.

5. Special section on Filtering Irrelevant or Trivial
Information –

A project management guru has to deal with massive amounts of information
on a daily basis. The employees or company personnel working under him
keep sending him updates, reports, complaints, information about
miscellaneous issues, and even raw data.

So if the project management guru starts poring closely over each and every
piece of information, the whole of his day will go by and he will not be able to
make any tangible progress or get any real work done. Thus, a project
management guru should learn the art of filtering out irrelevant or trivial
information and only focus on the information which truly requires his
attention.

Conclusion –

From the above mentioned features, one can easily ascertain that there are
many benefits to taking our Six Sigma green belt Certification course. If one
wants to become a better project management guru there is no better way
than to take this course.
