Our Patron, BBC’s voice of
BBC Presenter LIZ McIVOR Transport Heritage
Our tradition of inviting a
celebrity from the world of
transport to be our guest
has become one of the features that
makes our event unique. This year
we are thrilled to welcome BBC’s Liz
McIvor. Liz has presented not one
but two BBC Transport Heritage
series, on railways and canals in the
"Making of a Nation" series.
Liz told us " I was delighted to accept the invitation to be patron and guest. I have
often visited Lymm via the Bridgewater Canal. I had heard a lot about the event
and am looking forward to the day and to meeting so many transport enthusiasts."

Tof the most popular
events in the calendar for
Historic Working Boats. They
are a colourful spectacle as
they cram the village centre.
And remember, with a maxi-
mum speed of 4 mph some
have travelled for days to be
with us. There are some you
can step aboard. You can take
a trip on the Wizard, watch a
brilliant boat-horse harness-
ing demonstration. Be sure
not to miss the famous His-
toric Sailpast at 16.30
The first boat to arrive
on 20th will be Saturn.
It used to carry cheese
from Shropshire
through Lymm on its
way to Manchester. It
is arriving early to join
a team from Ellesmere
Port Boat Museum
who will work with lo-
cal primary schools for
four days as part of the
“We Love Our Canal”
project.

Traction Engines IAN WHITFIELD PHOTOGRAPHY istoric Transport Day
offers a rare chance to
Hsee traction engines in
their natural setting. You will
see them first on the highway
in the drive-in parade at
10.30am A couple will be in
the Golden Fleece car-park
but most are the canal side-
where they make a great
spectacle parked next to the
historic working boats. There
are over a dozen engines this
year plus a mixture of steam
lorries, miniatures and even a
custom built steam milk-float.
Come and experience not just
the sight but also the sounds
and smells of these magnifi-
cent engines.

then we will look after them at HQ or Community Centre if closer.

Disabled Access— We appreciate this is not the easiest event to get around
especially in a wheelchair due to distances and surfaces. The approach to the
field via Pepper St is quite steep and uneven in places. We aim to set aside disa-
bled parking near the Mayfield View entrance—marked on map - giving direct
wheelchair access to the field. There are disabled places on Pepper St Car Park
and Davies Way Car Park and there will be disabled parking at both Park &
Rides. All indoor venues are wheelchair friendly and all toilets have disabled
facilities. NB Wizard will offer disabled access boat trips from village centre.
