Certass Registration No. AC15-5082

CERTASS is a certification body for the operation of a Competent Person Scheme
under a Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) license and a
PAS2030 Energy Efficient Measures scheme.

When replacing windows, doors and roof lights in dwellings in England and Wales,
homeowners must comply with current thermal performance and Building Regulation
Standards and ensure they get a certificate from a Competent Person Scheme such
as CERTASS, FENSA or Local Authority Building Control. CERTASS enables
companies that install replacement windows and doors to self-certify compliance
under these Building Regulations without the need for a separate assessment from
Building Control.

Why CERTASS?

CERTASS is the industry standard for replacement window and door installers’ self-
certifying compliance with the building regulations.

Here is why you should look for the CERTASS logo when having replacement
windows and doors fitted in your property:

Save time and costs:

o You do not have to register your window or door installation with the local
authority yourself. Not only is the CERTASS approach much faster and easier – it
is likely to save you hundreds of pounds

o Compliance with the Building regulations without the added cost and time of
arranging assessment by Building Control

o If you own properties across different local authorities – for consistency of quality
and price, you are able to use the same CERTASS installer for all installations, as
they can work in all Local Authority jurisdictions

Confidence in CERTASS installers:

o CERTASS is the brand trusted by all local authorities, industry and government.

o Vetting: All CERTASS registered companies are continually re-assessed by an
independent inspection body to ensure consistency of Building Regulations
adherence and service.

o Companies nationwide have joined CERTASS, which include glazing companies,
builders, national and smaller home improvements companies, local authorities,
housing associations, property developers. If all these companies trust and use
CERTASS, consumers can too.

o CERTASS proactively protects consumers from the cowboys – not only by
withholding the scheme from those unable to pass CERTASS’s independent
assessments; but also by reporting to Local Authorities and Trading Standards
companies who erroneously claim CERTASS registration, to enable prosecution.

CERTASS Registered Businesses are required to have in place for their customers
the categories of insurance stated below. It is a government requirement that
companies must have certain insurance policies in place where applicable.

Deposit Protection: If CERTASS Registered Businesses take deposits in advance of
installations, they must give some form of deposit indemnity. Deposits may be
guaranteed by, for example, trade association Deposit Indemnity schemes, or credit
card protection. We use the Plastic Window Federation.

Guarantee or Warranty: CERTASS Registered Businesses must give a guarantee or
warranty covering the cost of completing rectification work in respect of defects for a
period of ten years. Please see our standard Terms and Conditions.

Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG): CERTASS Registered Businesses must also back
up their Guarantee/Warranty with an independent insurance policy, in the event of
ceasing to trade. This is called an Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG). We use the
Plastic Window Federation.

CERTASS Building Regulations Certificate:
o This will be sent by CERTASS directly to you to demonstrate compliance, very

important in the event you sell your house as your buyer will not be in a position
to exchange contracts without it.
o If you have lost your CERTASS certificate, it is quick and simple to re-order online
for a small charge.

What doesn’t go under CERTASS

Where you are under New Build and or Building Control you will not require
CERTASS.

This includes :
o Conservatory’s
o Porches
o All new build projects or alterations that are controlled by the Building Inspector.
o Replacement sealed units
