HISTORY & Mr. Ibrahim Abdel Hafiz, Founder of The Nile Co.
HERITAGE
The Nile Co. was founded in 1942 by
Ibrahim Abdel Hafiz, a pioneering Egyptian
industrialist who personally ran the
company’s operations for over 60 years. In
continuous operation for over 70 years, the
family-run business has built its reputation
on the quality of its products, advanced
manufacturing techniques, and the trust
placed in its name. It was founded as a
general partnership company in 1942, then
as a joint stock company (S.A.E) in 1986.
“THE NILE CO. WAS THE FIRST
TO IMPORT BRICK AND TILE
MANUFACTURING MACHINERY,
REVOLUTIONIZING THE
INDUSTRY IN EGYPT”
In the 1930s & 40s, the Nile Co. was the
first to import brick and tile manufacturing
machinery, revolutionizing the industry in
Egypt which until that time had relied on
manual production. It was the first factory
in Egypt and the Middle East to make
cement tile products in 1943, innovating
and adapting the Italian machinery to
handle local raw materials; an innovation
that was later adopted by the Italian
manufacturer and introduced in all future
machinery. Throughout the 1950s & 60s
the Nile Co., working with a team of Italian
engineers and the Ministry of Industry,
revolutionized the Egyptian tile industry by
breaking records in quality standards and
production capacities.
The Nile Co. awarded the Gold
Mercury International Award for
visionary leadership c. 1978.

SINGLE LAYER
TILES
Our Single Layer tiles are highly durable
indoor/outdoor tiles that are available in
a wide range of colors and marble chips,
in a polished or antique finish. Single layer
tiles are composed of one single layer of a
mixture made of cement, marble powder,
marble chips, coloring pigments and water;
making up the entire thickness of the tile.
The single-layer technology offers a major
advantage in the final thickness of the
product, which is reduced by almost half
compared to the more traditional double-
layer terrazzo cement tiles. The Italian
technological innovation that has allowed for
the development of single layer tiles has been
brought to the Egyptian market exclusively
by the Nile Co.
While the distinctive terrazzo tile look
is highly desirable in its own right, it can
also be considered an ideal cost-effective
alternative to marble (and offers more
strength and durability than marble &
granite). The tiles are designed to be
relatively thin and lightweight, allowing them
to be utilized in a variety of environments,
from multilevel buildings, to restorations
and wall claddings. They are extremely
durable with a lifetime of 50-70 years and
like marble, can be polished many times
after installation.

day, the Nile Co. is able to supply large
scale public projects and smaller projects alike.

TERRAZZO
TILES
Terrazzo was one of the first flooring
materials created thousands of years ago by
the ancient Romans from the chips left over
from work with marble and stone; bound
with cement, colored with natural oxides
and blended with water.
Terrazzo combines the durability of marble
with the strength and economy of concrete,
is low maintenance and can be re-polished
in-situ years following installation bringing
the surface back to near new finish. These
heavy-duty double layer tiles are composed of
a back layer of sand, cement and dolomite, and
a top layer of cement mixed with marble chip,
aggregates and coloring pigments. They are
suitable for both indoor & outdoor use in high-
traffic industrial, commercial and residential
environments that require a sophisticated and
durable flooring finish. Terrazzo is currently
back in fashion as a flooring material in luxury
interiors such as bathroom floors, reception
areas and wall claddings.
With a lifespan of over 50 years, Terrazzo
tiles provide a cost effective solution
(at half the price of single layer tiles), and
the Nile Co. has a manufacturing capacity of
3000 sq.m per day. Our Terrazzo Collection
includes Mosaico tiles, Lux tiles with marble
slab, and heavy-duty Granite chip tiles.

QUARTZITE
STONE
With its unique pattern variations, color
depth and textured surface, quartzite brings
a natural beauty to indoor and outdoor
environments. The distinctive tiles are used
on floors and walls as claddings in facades,
terraces and gardens, indoor flooring and
decoration, and are available in a range of
neutral colors.
Quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed
by the alteration of sandstone due to heat,
pressure and chemical activity. Its rough
surface is textured and uneven, which gives
it a unique and beautiful appearance. The
interlocking crystalline structure of quartzite
makes it an incredibly strong, tough, durable
rock. Quartzite is resistant to acids, alkalines
and salts, and provides superior insulation
against extreme changes in temperature and
humidity, which makes it an ideal material
for coastal areas. It insulates against heat, cold
and water and is electricity resistant. It is
also easy to clean and does not discolor with
exposure to weather conditions over time.
Harder and more resistant to stains than
slate and even granite, quartzite is superior
to both in many uses. While frequently
compared to slate in appearance, quartzite
is more durable, stronger (handling loads
of up to 2000kg/cm3), less absorbent and
is more resistant to most chemicals and
environmental conditions than slate.
