The intern will learn the fundamentals of providing feedback to students, as well as understanding instructional strategies that support a well-managed classroom. The intern will learn experimentally in the classroom and will be supported and coached by a supervisor assigned by the college. The course is designed to demonstrate learner-centered instruction regardless of individual differences among students. This course is required to meet the 300+ hours of coursework and training to be in compliance with the Texas Education Agency to be recommended for a Standard Certification. TExES ESL/Bilingual Review Session ATCPC 7200013 12 Preparation of teachers to test for the supplemental exam in English As a Second Language or Bilingual Supplemental. Teachers will learn competencies required by the State of Texas for the certifications and review for the State TExES exam. Transitions in Language Arts DEVSC 3940028 48 Emphasis is on refining reading and writing skills required for college success. Transitions in Language Arts is aligned with Texas CCRS. Topics include critical reading skills, note-taking strategies, writing essays and research papers. In addition, understanding the importance of learning styles and time management in reading and writing will be addressed. This course teaches critical thinking skills and essentials math strategies needed for placement in college level mathematics. In addition, understanding the importance of learning styles and time management in math will be addressed. Course emphasis will be on fundamental mathematics, introductory and intermediate algebra, and geometry. The Transitions Math course is delivered in a hybrid format and incorporates lab activities to develop students’ problem solving and study skills as determined by an initial diagnostic test. TSI, SAT, ACT Test Prep Course DEVSC 3940506 48 This Test Prep Course is designed to prepare students for the TSI, SAT, ACT (college entrance assessment tests). Students will review the main content of these tests, including math and language arts. Skills include reading comprehension, writing essays, review grammar and punctuation as well as other language conventions. Students will refresh their knowledge of math from basic algebra, geometry, functions and graph and arithmetic. Regardless of what test students are planning to take, at the end of this course, they will be ready to take their test. This is a fast-pace, intense course. Students are expected to dedicate the same amount of classroom time as independent study. Students must be 17 years old to register for this course and submit the required documentation. TSIA Preparation - Math Skills DEVSC 3900017 12 Preparation for the math portion of the TSIA test. Instruction and practice in math skills will be addressed. General guidance and strategy concerning how to adequately prepare for and take a test will also be covered.
