Introduction

Malaysia is a multi-racial country, and everyone must
have their own religion. The buildings of each religion
have a unique design and representation. Next, we will
introduce a few buildings that are representative of
religions in Malaysia.

Chinese Temple

● The Chinese temple architecture refer to a type of structures used as place of
worship of Chinese Buddhism, Taoism or Chinese folk religion, where people
revere ethnic Chinese gods and ancestors.

● As the center of the Potala Palace, the red palace is the soul of the architecture
complex. Red is the symbol of bravery. Nowadays, people paint red on the
temple walls in deference to ancient people painting red on the tombs.

Thean Hou Temple

The Thean Hou Temple is a six-tiered temple of the
Chinese sea goddess Mazu located in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. It is located on 1.67 acres of land atop
Robson Heights on Lorong Bellamy, overlooking Jalan
Syed Putra.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple

The Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is a Chinese temple
practising the Three Doctrinal Systems of Buddhism,
Confucianism and Taoism located at Malacca. It is the
oldest functioning temple in the country.

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi

The Khoo Kongsi is a large Chinese clan house with elaborate and highly ornamented
architecture, a mark of the dominant presence of the Chinese in Penang, Malaysia. The
famous Khoo Kongsi is the grandest clan temple in the country. It is also one of the city's
major historic attractions.

Mosque

● The purpose of having a Mosque is Muslims worship God.
Throughout the Islamic history, mosque was the centre of the
community and towns formed around this pivotal building.

● This building is religiously and politically, and can be a
modest structure or an architectural masterpiece, such as
the Great Mosque of Córdoba in Spain.

Putra Mosque

The mosque was consists of three main functional areas. Inside of the mosque

there is an elegant and beautiful prayer hall, the Sahn courtyard, and various

learning facilities. The building of this mosque Its 380 feet and 116 meter tall

minaret which is one of the tallest in the region.

Crystal Mosque,Kuala Terengganu

A grand structure made of steel, glass and crystal,
was located at the Islamic Heritage Park on the island
of Wan Man. The mosque was constructed between
2006 and 2008, and was officially inaugurated on 8
February 2008 . Inside the mosque also makes it look
like the glass domes are shining.

Kampung Laut Mosque, Kelantan

The building material of this mosque consists of hard and solid wood that can last for
many years. The architecture and fineness of the carvings found in the construction of
the Kampung Laut Mosque it shows the skills and wisdom of Malay craftsmen who
combine traditional art with superior Islamic art.

Hindu Temple

● A Hindu temple, often mandir in India, is a symbolic house, seat and body of
divinity for Hindus. It is a structure designed to bring human beings and gods
together, using symbolism to express the ideas and beliefs of Hinduism.

● The symbolism and structure of a Hindu temple are rooted in Vedic traditions and
by "specific alignments related to the geography of the place and the presumed
linkages of the deity and the patron".

Waterfall Temple, Penang

A temple that leads up to the Hilltop Temple. With 513 steps totalling
approximately 260 feet, it is like climbing a twenty-two storey
building. The multi-tiered spire over the main entrance. It's
colourfully lit up, with each tier having statues of Indian deities.

Elaborate white marble columns hold up a ceiling
decorated with colourful round centrepieces. The
floor is of light brown marble with black square
inlays.

Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala
Lumpur

The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 1873, it is situated at the edge of
Chinatown in Jalan Bandar . In 1968, a new structure was built,
featuring the ornate 'Raja Gopuram' tower in the style of South Indian
temples.

The dramatic 22.9 m (75 ft) high pyramid-shaped gate tower is decorated
with depictions of Hindu gods sculpted by artisans from southern India.

Sri Shakti Devasthanam
Temple,Kuala Selangor

Overall, with the intense labour of approximately 1.2
million hours, 10 million bricks, 20,000 tonnes of
steel bars, 1,500 cubic metres of concrete, 100
tonnes of granite and 25 tonnes of teakwood, the
final piece was completed.

The main entrance of the temple has a sculptured
granite frame that is said to weigh as much as 4
tonnes and is 18 feet tall.

Church

● Church is a building used for Christian worship services and other Christian
religious activities. The earliest identified Christian church is a house church
founded between 233 and 256. From the 11th through the 14th centuries there was
a wave of church construction in western Europe.

● Sometimes the word church is used by analogy for the buildings of other
religions.Church is also used to describe the Christian religious community as a
whole, or a body or an assembly of Christian believers around the world.

Christ Church, Melaka

● The church is built in Dutch Colonial architecture style and is laid out in a
simple rectangle of 82 feet (25 m) by 42 feet (13 m).The floors of the church
are paved with granite blocks originally used as ballast for merchant ships.

● Dutch tiles and the walls were raised using Dutch bricks built on
● local laterite blocks then coated with Chinese plaster.

St.Mary Cathedral ,Kuala Lumpur

● The building consists of a nave 87 feet long by 28 feet
wide, and a chancel 29 feet long by 22 feet wide with an
octagonal end, together with a vestry and organ
chamber. The nave can accommodate a congregation of
180 people and the chancel, a choir of 20.

St. Michael's and All Angels Church,
Sandakan

● The church was initially made of Belian planks,
followed by a stack of bricks and stones. It is said
that the windows of the church near Samson
Avenue were decorated with white stones sent by
ocean from Hong Kong.

Conclusion

The above are architectural houses and historical materials
from Malaysia's religion. Although Malaysia is a multi-racial
country, everyone respects each other's beliefs and does not
touch the bottom line in order to create a harmonious
society.
