A QUARTERLY E-MAGAZINE (YEAR 2016-17)

AUGUST, SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL

Issue
LVG/02/2016

FROM OUR PATRON…

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can

use to change the world. The function of education is
to teach one to think intensively and to think
critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal
of true education.”

It gives me immense pleasure as I congratulate
Mrs Anita Malhotra and the entire team of Lotus
Valley International School, Gurgaon, on the
enthusiastic response garnered by the maiden issue of
the Quarterly E-Magazine, ‘Different Strokes’.

I am sure the bountiful learning experiences, coupled DR. SHAYAMA CHONA
with hands-on and experiential learning
methodologies, being offered by the School is aimed PADMASHREE & PADAMBHUASHAN
AWARDEE

at creating a generation of creative thinkers, and

responsible future citizens of the world. Here, I don’t merely look at our children as the

citizens and future leaders of our nation. But as global citizens bearing the beacon of

education illuminating the whole world around them, with the strength of character,

righteousness, knowledge and responsibility.

Whether it is tackling or preventing the menace of environmental pollution or the need for
integrity and propriety in personal and public life, or the progression towards a world of
peace and love, the School and the Parents need to join hands to empower our children
with the right mix of education and values, skills and attitudes, knowledge and prudence.
The recent initiative of Face-Time, Coffee Meets with parents of each class with the
Principal is a conduit for establishing a rapport between the School and home. The selection
of Parent Representatives from each class post these Coffee Meet sessions will definitely
go a long way in strengthening this rapport.

I am sure under the guidance of the dynamic and visionary Principal, Mrs Anita Malhotra,
the School will continue to grow by leaps and bounds and bring about a revolution in the
way education turns around the society, realizing the vision of…

‘वसधु ैवकु टुम्बकम’् : The World is one Family.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...

Aristotle once said that “Educating the mind without
educating the heart is no education at all”.

Even as we impart education to match the
advancement in technology and globalization,
we march our children ahead with LVIS’s ethos of
moral values and principles. We endeavour
constantly to instill these qualities in our children. We
pride ourselves to help them grow and develop into
sensitive and responsible citizens of the future.

Our Coffee Meet Sessions and Face-Time have

strengthened our partnership and enabled us to

finalize volunteer parent reps which in turn has MRS. ANITA MALHOTRA

facilitated a transparent communication channel STATE & CBSE NATIONAL TEACHER

between the School and parent fraternity. I sincerely AWARDEE

thank the cooperation and whole hearted participation

of the parents in our initiatives like ‘Seva-Mela’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Abhyan’. With pride

I share the success of the first part of the Indo-German Exchange Programme in October,

2017. The exchange will be complete with the visit of our learners to Lahr, Germany on 7th

May, 2017.

We are proud and pleased to inform you that ‘Lotus Valley International School - Gurgaon’
is Ranked No.3 in India, Ranked No.2 in Haryana & Ranked No2 in Gurgaon under the
Category of India`s Top 20 CBSE School in a survey conducted by EducationToday.co. A
heartfelt gratitude to the parent fraternity for reposing faith and trust in the Institution.
Looking forward to continuing this journey in camaraderie with each other.

The rendition and relentless advocacy by the Vice-Principal, Mrs. Ruchi Joshi calls for a
noteworthy appreciation.
I would like to compliment Mrs. Harvinder Kaur, Headmistress (Middle Wing) for have
taken this initiative to fulfill our vision of launching the School E-magazine this year.

The second issue, LVG/02/2016 of Quarterly E-Magazine ‘DIFFERENT STROKES’, is a
milestone that marks our growth, unfolds our imagination and gives life to our thoughts
and aspirations. Confidence in our past performance gives us the courage to look forward
to the future…

PREFACE

It was over five years ago that the wheels of change were put into motion
at Lotus Valley International School, Gurgaon, as we embarked upon
a journey of providing wings to aspirations, moulding
impressionable youth into responsible global citizen and becoming a
beacon of excellence. We were supported in our mission by the
wonderful set of learners who have always set high standards of
excellence for themselves and aided in the quest by our worthy and
laudable mentors who constantly strived to elevate the benchmark of
academic and holistic performance of the learners.

Today, we are a proud pillar of the education community of not only
Gurgaon but the NCR. To commemorate the eventful and enriching
voyage so far and to extend our gratitude to our beloved learners and
ever-supportive parents, we started the initiative of presenting to you
the quarterly e-magazine 'Different Strokes'. This e-magazine
would apprise you with all the accomplishments of the school in a
given quarter and also showcase the learning engagements of the
learners.

We hope you have as wonderful an experience browsing through it as
we had bringing it you.

THE GAME OF CRICKET

I love the game of Cricket
Every bowler wants to take a wicket
When a bowler takes a wicket
He shows an impression which is wicked
When a batsman wins a match by hitting a six
It is all over the radio remix

The fielders in the game give their best
They run and run and run without any rest
If I were them, my lungs would burst
As they run without any thirst

Players in cricket are so aggressive
They play on grounds which are so very massive
Some players in Cricket earn a lot of fame
Remember Cricket is and always will be my favourite game.

MY UNFORGETTABLE DREAM

One night after a tiring day, I lay in my bed, I then pulled up my quilt, turned off the lights
and shut my eyes.
Then I dreamt that the whole world was covered with water, there was no dry land
anywhere. I was on a ship with my family. The name of our ship was UNICORN. We were
trying to find dry land but could not find it anywhere.
We had tomato and muskmelon plants on our ship. And we use to collect drinking water
from the rain.
One day we met another family on a broken ship which was going to sink. So we helped
them to come onto our ship. I met a girl named Tanya. I liked her so I made friends with
her. We would often play together. She had many books. In one book there was a map to
find dry land. Our fathers started following the map and soon we reached dry land!
We had a feast that night and went to sleep. I heard birds chirping and I opened my eyes
thinking that we had reached that land but I found myself in my bed and the birds chirping
outside my window! It was just an interesting dream!!

My Dad THAT MARVEL IN MY REACH
When I sit at the shore of the ocean
We are focusing on my dad, Looking at the beautiful waves
When he was a wee lad. I love to see the shells, waves leave
In tests he was the best, With the tiny pearls, ocean’s lovely weave
And in sports he removed his spots. Isn’t it a delight?
He used to be a big gun, When the soft sand is under my feet on the beach
In a run. That marvel in my reach
He grew as fast,
As brewing tea. When the tides grow bigger and bigger
And here`s my dad, I feel like I am in the kingdom of large fishes
Who was never bad. Coming towards me, giving mom like kisses
