Pet Alliance of Greater
Orlando’s “Almost Home”
Capital Campaign is a
five-year, $14 Million
initiative to build a new
facility that allows us to
continue providing the
highest level of care and
support for dogs, cats and
pet owners.
At Pet Alliance, we provide hope,
shelter, and care to animals that
need our help. Our commitment to
animals begins with prompt, compas-
sionate veterinary care and continues
with enrichment and placement of
animals to their new homes.
Our shelter animals are cared for by
dozens of staff and volunteers so that
each receives the love and attention
the deserve while in our care.

THE FUTURE
Pet Alliance is fortunate to be a focal point of ani-
mal lovers. Every year more than 80,000 hours of
volunteer time helps our staff connect animals with
their forever families.
Our goal is to find each cat and dog its new
home. The journey is not always an easy one, but
Pet Alliance is committed to each animal that
comes through our doors. The dedication of Pet
Alliance and its partners combines to create the
best possible chance of achieving this goal.
Your help is needed as we embark on a capital
campaign to build a new state-of-the-art shelter
campus.

OF SHELTERING
Through three dedicated locations and 10 offsite adoption partners, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando services Orange,
Osceola and Seminole counties. Additionally, we assist other Florida counties and states including Texas, Oklahoma, Ala-
bama, Georgia, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Pet Alliance continually develops progressive programs to help keep pets in homes and identify solutions to the root prob-
lems of pet homelessness. Since its days as the Orlando Humane Society, Pet Alliance has achieved many successes over
the past 84 years. Substantial progress has been made in veterinary services, comprehensive programs in pet owner educa-
tion, adoption rates and community outreach for spay/neutering options.
To build on that success and accelerate progress toward the vision of providing a forever home for every shelter animal, a
new center must be established. Pet Alliance is proposing a 25,000 sq ft flexible shelter building; a five-year, $14 million
initiative (2021-2025) to advance key strategies described in the plan.
OUR HISSSTORY
Since then, Pet Alliance has
strategically incorporated new services
and developed programs to serve pets
and pet owners of the community.

LIFESAVING PROGRAMS
Pet Alliance receives more
than 6,000 dogs and cats in
need of temporary shelter,
medical care and rehoming
each year.
During their stay, they receive love, food and medical care and
daily enrichment. Our shelter veterinarians perform spay/neu-
ter surgeries on all animals prior to adoption, as well as other
medical needs of our dogs and cats.

Surrender prevention
programs keep pets and
people together.
Identifying the number one reported reason why people
surrender their pets, housing issues, led to the develop-
ment of the Pet Apartment Registry. This program is
designed to provide more housing options with truly pet
friendly policies that accept dogs regardless of size or
breed. Additionally, Project Faith offers individuals and
families who are in crisis situations short-term boarding,
veterinary services and care of animals while the owner
is in need.
Other services include the Pet Food
Pantry for people experiencing tem-
porary financial need and Animeals on
Wheels that provides food and veterinary
care to low income seniors.
Between January 2017 and
January 2021, Pet Alliance
took in 9,766 homeless
kittens.
The goal of the Community Cat Initiative is to
reduce the intake of kittens and cats, stabilize and
reduce the community cat population and thereby
reduce the number of cats euthanized at other
shelters.
Pet Alliance partnered with Orange County, the
City of Orlando, Care TNR and local cat rescue
groups to develop focused Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate,
and Return (TNVR) action plans. Our primary strate-
gy is providing targeted, high volume TNVR on existing
cat colonies of 30 or more cats.

BUILDING A SHELTER FOR
HOPE, SHELTER AND CARE
Pet Alliance’s current shelter was completed in 1989. Since then, we have undergone two major addi-
tions and updates in order to better serve the animals in our care.
While these renovations have proven valuable, areas of the shelter such as the adoption lobby and the
dog kennels have remained largely unchanged. Nearly a quarter million dogs and cats
have been housed here since 1989. The lives of the pets in our care would be greatly
improved by innovations in animal housing, air conditioning, noise mitigation and
medical isolation.

One major need is for more and improved quarantine spaces. Such spaces to permit us to transfer in more ani-
mals from high euthanizing shelters, as well as transfers natural disasters as a centralized intake shelter.
Improved quarantine spaces include specialized units for puppies with a Parvo infection, as well as designated areas
for kittens/cats with ringworm and scabies. We currently treat for ringworm, but with limited isolation space, we are
unable to transfer in animals from shelters that are likely to euthanize.
Specialized quarantine and treatment space
increase our ability to work with other
shelters as well as assist after natural disas-
ters.
These spaces are flexible in design and can be
used for various medical/quarantine purposes
as needs change (i.e. canine influenza out-
break etc.)
We will continue our innovative Virtual
Kitten Nursery and will provide dedicated
space to serve the many foster families that
care for our kittens. We will also continue
our community focused surrender preven-
tion initiatives -Project FAITH, Animeals on
Wheels, and Pet Food Pantry.

PHASE I – LAND ACQUISITION
(COMPLETED)
The land that the Orlando Shelter currently sits on is
owned by Orange County and provided to Pet Alliance
via a long-term land lease. Pet Alliance’s Board of Direc-
tors unanimously agreed to build a new shelter only if the
property is owned by Pet Alliance.
In April 2021, Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando purchased
an 8 acre parcel of land on John Young Parkway
close to the JYP/I-4 interchange.
The property’s eastern side borders
Lake Catherine and is mostly a wood-
ed area. The vision is a conveniently
located shelter with serene natural
surroundings.

The purchase of the land was
contingent on planned develop-
ment zoning changes from Or-
ange County.
All necessary environmental as-
sessments have been completed
and the application for the zon-
ing change has been approved by
the County Board of Commis-
ions.
The purchase of the property
was completed April 2021.
Phase I of the capital campaign will secure funding needed for the
purchase of the property. TOTAL COST: 1,000,000 (COMPLETED)

SUMMARY
The need for a new shelter campus is vital for the well-being
of our animals and our organization. With this new facility
we will be able to provide the very best care for these in-
credible animals and their owners for many years to come.
Because of you and those that came before you,
Pet Alliance has provided essential services for dogs and
cats throughout Central Florida for the past 84 years.
In order for us to continue our work, we are asking our
community leaders to come together and support our
Almost Home Capital Campaign so that all dogs and cats
can be provided hope, shelter, care and a loving forever
