W.E. Pinder & sON FAMILY FUNERAL DIRECTORS 1914 John Pinder Christopher Hurton Michael Towle Jacqui Clifford Jenny Cooper W.E. Pinder & Son, funeral directors are proud to have served bereaved families in Bawtry and the surrounding towns and villages for over 100 years. The business remains totally independent, and remains in the control of the founder’s great grandson, John Pinder. We have an excellent reputation, built on many years' experience of delivering a considerate and personal service, delivered by friendly and approachable staff. We view each funeral as a specific and unique event, bringing respect and dignity to all aspects of the funeral, providing you with an affordable and appropriate service arranged in line with your wishes. I firmly believe that families are better served by a local firm that has full knowledge of local customs, knows the regulations at local cemeteries and crematoria and is familiar with the preferences of local ministers, churches and doctors but at the same time is completely flexible, and able to accommodate most requests. The following booklet describes the steps that must be taken following a bereavement along with an overview of the products and services that we can provide. If there is anything that you would like not mentioned in the following pages please talk to your appointed funeral director, who will be happy to help. serving FAMILY 1914 YOU& your since 02 John Pinder Pauline Cooper
03 The following questions are to help you think about the decisions you will need to make when arranging a funeral. We do not need answers right away, and anything that you decide can be changed. We will discuss each point with you in detail when we meet. considered POINTS to be • Is the funeral to be a burial or cremation? • Would you like the service to be held in a Church, Crematorium/Cemetery Chapel or in our 'Tall Trees' Chapel. • Do you have a preference for a particular celebrant or minister of religion? • Where is the cortege to meet before the funeral? • Would you like us to place a notice either in the press or online (see page 10) announcing the details of the funeral? • Would you prefer those attending the funeral to send flowers or donate to a charity in tribute? If you prefer charitable donations, we will oversee and administer this process from beginning to end. • Would you like us to organise floral tributes? • Is there to be a reception following the funeral service? If so, we can advise about local venues/ home caterers and book these on your behalf. • Is there specific personal music to be played during the service? • Would you like us to print an order of service (see page 12) W.E. (see pages 13 and 14)
04 W.E. Pinder & sON FAMILY FUNERAL DIRECTORS 1914 first STEPS The first steps following a bereavement are often the most difficult. Although we will help you with these steps as much as we possibly can, there are a number of tasks that we cannot carry out on your behalf. REGISTERING A DEATH A death should be registered within five days of it occurring (although in our experience this is unlikely) unless the Coroner is investigating the circumstances relating to the death. In certain circumstances the five-day period can be extended. The death should be registered by a near relative or executor. When the Coroner isn’t involved- • A doctor will issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD). • This certificate will be forwarded electronically to the independent Medical Examiner team along with the telephone number of the person responsible for registration (often next of kin). • The independent Medical Examiner will then telephone the person responsible for registration, explain any medical terminology and make sure that everyone understands and is comfortable with the details provided to them by the doctor that cared for the person that has passed away. • Once the Medical Examiner has completed these discussions, the MCCD and contact telephone number will be sent electronically to the relevant Registrar. • The Registrar will then contact the person responsible for registration to organise a face-to-face appointment. At this appointment the Registrar will require the following information – • Full name of the person who has passed away. • Address • Date and place of birth. • Occupation. • Maiden surname of a woman who has married. • In the case of a married woman or widow, the full names and occupation of her husband. • If the deceased was receiving a pension from public funds, such as a civil service or army pension. Upon completion of registration the Registrar will issue a green certificate. This form is free of charge and must be delivered to the funeral director as soon as possible. If the coroner is involved the process does differ and this form may not be issued. Copies of the death certificate can be purchased from the Registrar at a cost of £11.00 each. These will be needed to notify the deceased’s bank, building society, life insurance company, private pension company and probate amongst others. Further copies can be purchased at a cost of £11.00 each up to four weeks after registration, however after four weeks the cost per certificate will significantly increase. The person attending the appointment will be given the opportunity to use the ‘Tell Us Once’ service. This service can be used to notify local and government agencies on your behalf saving precious time and effort. 06 W.E. Pinder & sON FAMILY FUNERAL DIRECTORS 1914 Following the death of a family member, there are some services and organisations that you may be required to inform. W.E. Pinder & sON 07 FAMILY FUNERAL DIRECTORS 1914 coronersPROCEDURE • Cause of death is unknown • Death was sudden or unexplained • Death was due to violence or unnatural • The deceased hasn’t been seen by their Doctor during their last illness or within the final 28 days • Death occurred during an operation or before the deceased came around from the anaesthetic • Cause of death suggests it may have been caused by an industrial disease or industrial poisoning Stage 1 A death may be reported to the Coroner who investigates and then decides that no further action is required. The Coroner would then instruct the Doctor to issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD). From this point the normal registration procedure can be followed. Stage 2 If the Coroner decides that a MCCD cannot be issued then a post-mortem examination would be performed. Following this examination the cause of death may be clear, which if so, the coroner would release the deceased into the care of the Funeral Director. The coroner would send notification directly to the registrar regarding the cause of death, therefore no MCCD would be issued. From this point the normal registration procedure can be followed. If a cremation has been chosen a Green Certificate would not be issued by the registrar. Stage 3 If the Coroner cannot establish the cause of death following the post-mortem examination, if the death was a result of violence, an unnatural death or if the death occurred in prison or police custody then an inquest will be opened and adjourned, once the Coroner is satisfied that sufficient evidence has been gathered. At this point the coroner would release the deceased into the care of the Funeral Director and issue the appropriate paperwork for the funeral to take place. Interim Certificates of Fact of Death would be issued to the relatives. These can be used to notify organisations such as banks etc. The death cannot be registered until after the inquest has been held. The Coroner will send the appropriate paperwork to the registrar and inform them of what to put in the register. The family will not attend the register office. Your funeral director will guide you through and explain the coroner’s procedure as it can sometimes appear more complicated than it is. There are a number of reasons why a death may be reported or referred to the coroner, none of which should necessarily give cause for concern or distress. These reasons might include:

Further independent reviews can be found at; www.wepinder.com www.thegoodfuneralguide.co.uk www.facebook.com/W.E. Pinder & Son ltd I had no previous experience or knowledge of what I had to do in my situation. I am so pleased that I chose Pinders Funeral Directors as they took all the problems that arose, worked through the options I had, and sat down with me to help me feel comfortable with my decision. Within a day I felt as though they were part of my family and this made me feel very assured that my wishes would be upheld. My husband was given the highest respect and was lovingly cared for. Jaquie was our dedicated member of the team and I felt very comfortable with her dealings with us. John Pinder was always on site, and made himself visible, even coming to my assistance when my vehicle broke down, this made me feel confident in the fact that they really are a family run business. If you are looking for a caring, professional funeral director who will give your loved one the dignity and respect they deserve, yet never forgetting the loved ones left behind then I can highly recommend W.E. Pinder & Son. We as a family have now lost a brother and a mother and John Pinder and his team at W.E.Pinder have looked after us. They are just very good at what they do. From the first phone call reporting the loss of a loved one to the completion of the funeral day they deliver a first class service. They are efficient in their organisation, diplomatic when arrangements are being made when opinions differ. Sympathetic and caring when it matters. The attention to detail in all the arrangements leading up to the day from all the team is first class. On the day the planning really shows in helping to give our loved ones a send off to be remembered all the worries are lifted. They really do care. There are no words to describe how beautiful mum's funeral was, we are so happy with the service we were given. John went above and beyond to accommodate everything for us and took a lot of stress and pressure from myself and my father. Nothing was too much trouble. John is a lovely, warm hearted man too. Very kind, caring and genuine. customers WHAT our SAY ABOUT US
