sejahtera
Alhamdulillah, syukur kita kehadrat Allah SWT kerana dengan
izin-Nya, dapat kita sama-sama dalam Majlis Perasmian dan
Penutupan Program Science, Technology, Engineering &
Rocket Fair (STERF) MRSM Se-Malaysia 2022 yang bertemakan
“Driving Imagination, Revolutionising Innovation”. Syabas dan
tahniah diucapkan kepada MRSM Muadzam Shah yang telah
dipilih menjadi tuan rumah pada kali ini.
Tema “Driving Imagination, Revolutionising Innovation” sememangnya sejajar dengan
matlamat untuk mengangkat martabat MARA bagi melahirkan para pelajar holistik yang
cemerlang dalam bidang sains dan teknologi. MARA sentiasa komited untuk menghasilkan
masyarakat yang berinovasi selaras dengan kemajuan teknologi masa kini.
Ini merupakan satu bentuk pendedahan awal untuk para pelajar menerokai bidang sains,
teknologi dan kejuruteraan yang sungguh luas, sekaligus dapat melahirkan lebih banyak
pakar-pakar dalam bidang tersebut.
Tambahan lagi, para pelajar dapat mengaplikasikan ilmu sains dan teknologi secara
bijaksana melalui kegiatan merekacipta untuk kesejahteraan kehidupan diri, masyarakat
dan alam keseluruhannya. Hal ini menepati objektif MARA untuk melahirkan modal insan
yang global dan berintegriti.
Saya ingin mengucapkan tahniah dan syabas kepada peserta–peserta Program Science,
Technology, Engineering & Rocket Fair (STERF) MRSM Se-Malaysia 2022. Terima kasih juga

ROCKET CATEGORY
A. GENERAL RULES
1. This competition will be held online and must be participated by all MRSM.
2. The best five (5) teams that managed to win first place up to fifth in STERF 2022
are eligible to participate in KRK2022 at the national level.
3. Each team consists of two (2) students (Form 1 to Form 4 ie aged 13 to 16 years
before 31 December 2022) and guided by one (1) teacher/mentor.
4. Participants will compete at the zonal level first. 2 Winners from each zone will
compete in the finals on 18 - 20 June 2022.
5. Participants at the zonal level will compete for :
i. Category R2 - Target 60 meters
6. For the final stage, this competition is divided into two (2) categories as follows :
i. Category R1 - Presentation
ii. Category R2 - Target 60 meters
7. Each team is encouraged to build a water rocket model according to the
following numbers :
i. Category R1 - Presentation - one (1) rocket model (minimum)
ii. Category R2 - Target - two (2) rocket models (minimum)
8. Water Rocket Making Session (Water Rocket Making Session) can be conducted
at the college, home or at any location deemed appropriate by each team.
For Category R2 (Target), the Water Rocket Launching Session is outdoor and
not subject to any specific location, but the use of the college field is strongly
encouraged.

ROCKET CATEGORY
9. Necessary materials and equipment to be used for the construction of wateR
rocket models are open and must be provided by each team. Please refer to
Item C -Proposed List of Required Materials and Equipment.
10. Use only plastic -based materials and soft materials.
11. All energy supplied to a water rocket is based on a combination of water and
air pressure only.
12. The overall score at the zonal level is entirely dependent (100%) on the score
for the target category.
13. The champion and overall ranking in the final stage is determined based on
the total marks obtained from each category according to the percentage as
follows :
i. Category R1 - Presentation - 30%
ii. Category R2 - Target 60 meters - 70%
14. All rules and conditions of the competition are subject to current changes
without prior notice.
15. The decision of the panel of judges is FINAL for all competition categories.
Any objections will not be entertained.
16. The organizers of STERF20222 (Online Edition) are not responsible for any
incidents that occur due to the negligence of participants, teachers/mentors
or the organizers at their respective locations during the competition.

ROCKET CATEGORY
B. Category R1 - Presentation
1. The presentation session will be conducted online through the platform
Streamyard/Zoom/Google Meet which will be f inalized later.
2. The language used is English.
3. The time allotted for this category is for 20 minutes only.
i. Presentation - 15 minutes; and
ii. Question and answer - 5 minutes
4. Participants are required to provide presentation materials related to rocket
model design, material selection criteria and launchers used, principles/laws of
science applied, construction process, training, current challenges, etc. to be
shared in MS PowerPoint format or other appropriate format.
5. Each team must ensure the readiness of equipment and materials to broadcast
online, especially the internet line is guaranteed sufficient in terms of speed and
stability throughout the presentation session.
6. The evaluation criteria are based on the following aspects:
i. Speech language;
ii. Presentation skills;
iii. Question answering skills;
iv. Understanding of the theory/laws of science/physics;
v. Creativity and innovation.

ROCKET CATEGORY
Category R2 - Target
1. Each team is required to launch their respective water rocket model and fall in
a designated target zone. The location of the launch site (outdoor), target zone
and other related requirements shall be managed by the respective teams.
2. This session will be monitored online by the Planetarium according to the methods
and technical preparations set in advance and must be arranged by each team at
their respective launch sites.
3. Each launch session will be recorded live through the online platform -
Streamyard/Zoom/Google Meet in three (3) different location spots, namely at
the launch site, in the target zone and the overall field of view. Please use
appropriate camera equipment or gadgets (mobile phones/tabs etc.) and have
a connection to an internet line.
4. Each team must coordinate the name of the camera in three (3) location spots
as follows:-
i. Launch Site: <No. Turn> _Cam1_Launcher
ii. Overall Field of View: <No. Turn> _Cam2_Overall FOV
iii. Target Zone: <No. Turn> _Cam3_Target
5. Please ensure that the use of the rear camera (switch to main camera) and the
gadget is placed in loudspeaker mode during the respective launch recording
sessions.
6. Each team must ensure the readiness of equipment and materials for the online
recording session, especially the internet line is guaranteed sufficient in terms of
speed (minimum 10Mbps) and stability throughout the launch session.
7. The target distance, x f rom the launch site to the center of the target (bull’s-eye)
is set at 60 meters.
8. To ensure that the launched water rocket falls in the target zone, each team has
to determine for themselves parameters such as the water level in the bottle,
air pressure and the launch angle of the water rocket.
9. All water rockets shall be launched at a pressure
NOT exceeding 72.5 psi (5 Barr).

ROCKET CATEGORY
10. Each team is only allocated two (2) launches only and one of the best distances
will be taken into account for scoring.
11. The duration of installation (setup), preparation and launch of water rocket is
NOT more than 5 minutes.
12. The landing point of water rockets that fall in the target zone will be marked
(small flag) and the distance will be measured from the center of the target
(bull's eye) to the landing point by each team. Data must be clearly shown/
communicated to the jury panel for verification. The score will be determined
based on the closest distance of the water rocket f rom the center of the target
(bull’s-eye). The distance closest to the center of the target (bull’s-eye) will get
the highest score.
13. Only one (1) best attempt out of the two (2) attempts given will be taken into
account in the calculation of marks for the determination of the overall ranking
for this category.
14. A water rocket that falls outside the target zone is considered a failure (no marks
are given).
15. If the water rocket splits into two (2) parts immediately after launch and before
landing on the ground surface, the attempt is considered failed (no marks are given).

C. LIST OF REQUIRED MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
1. Each team is required to use 1.5 liter plastic bottles of carbonated drinks for the
construction of their respective rocket models, which is a maximum of two (2)
empty plastic bottles of 1.5 liters of carbonated drinks that are suitable for each
water rocket model.
2. All water rocket models will be launched using launchers provided by each
team/school. No specif ic launcher specif ications are set for launch.
3. The proposed materials and equipment to be provided by each team for the
Water Rocket Making Session and Water Rocket Launching Session are as
follows:
