Baseball

Idiom: “drop the ball”
Meaning: to make a mistake, especially when you did

not complete one of your responsibilities
Sentence: I was counting on Sam to finish his

project but he dropped the ball.

Basketball

Idiom: “give it your best shot”, “take a shot at”
Meaning: to try something which is often difficult
Sentence: The test was rather tough, but I gave it

my best shot.

Boxing

Idiom: “one-two punch”
Meaning: a combination of two things that are

powerful in a positive or negative way
Sentence:
(Positive) The one-two punch of delicious food and
excellent desserts make this restaurant one of the

Running

Idiom: “jump the gun”
Meaning: to do something too early, before the correct
