Exercise 4: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
Seven-year-old Kenny sat with his mother on the sofa. He was deep in thoughts. He
wanted a pet and asked his mother if he could buy a cat from the pet store.
“No cats,” said his mother. “We cannot have any cats or dogs in our small flat.”
“Can I have a bird then?” Kenny asked. James has a parrot. It stays in a cage.”
“No, a parrot is not what we want. We need a pet that is quiet. A parrot will not be
quiet,” said his mother.
Kenny wondered what kind of pet he could keep. His mother thought hard too. “Let’s
talk to Mr Scott at the pet store,” said his mother. “He might have a quiet pet for you.”
“Great!” said Kenny.
Kenny and his mother walked to the pet store. They told the pet store owner their
problem. Mr Scott nodded his head.
“I have just the pet you’re looking for. Meet Orange, a goldfish,” he said. “Is a goldfish
one of the pets you can have in your house?”
Both Kenny and his mother nodded in delight. Together, they brought Orange home.
