Plants are living things.
• They need air, food and water in order to survive.
• Unlike animals, plants can make their own food.

• Roots enable the plant to absorb water and minerals from the soil.

• Many plants have underground roots found in the soil, but roots can also
be found above the ground.

• Stem helps to transport food, nutrients and water.
• Most plants have stems that are found above ground, but some have

stems that grow underground.

• Leaves produce food for the plant.
• They come in different shapes and sizes and contain leaf veins.

• Flowers enable the plant to produce fruits.
• They come in different sizes and colours, only plants with flowers produce

fruits, but not all plants have flowers.

Plants can be classified into flowering and non-flowering plants.
• Flowering plants bear flowers that grow into fruits, which contain seeds.

• Some examples include the banana tree, hibiscus, and rose.

spores.
