Once upon a time, a beautiful peacock, Portia lived in a forest. All the
animals tried to win her heart but instead, she laughed at them. They were furious at her
arrogance and went to seek help from Whirlwind and Rain. Whirlwind and Rain decided
to play a prank on Portia to teach her a lesson. It worked but they were exiled from the
village.

After they were gone, the rivers dried up. Soon, the crops died. The
animals panicked and asked the Lion King for help. He sent many animals out to bring
Whirlwind and Rain back but all of them failed. Steven, a sparrow and also the smallest
bird in the forest volunteered. He was their last hope. Along the way, he was attacked
by eagles and also almost died of thirst and hunger. Whenever he wanted to give up, he

Exercise 4: Read the passage below and answer the questions
that follow.

Sparrows are very small birds found throughout the world. They are a
species of birds that can be easily recognised as they live very close to humans. Some
species of sparrows prefer to live in deserts, swamps, forests and other bushy areas.

Sparrows are about 11 to 18 centimetres long and weigh between 13 to 5
42 grams. They have short tails and small strong beaks. They have large feet which
are used to uncover seeds. Sparrows feed mainly on seeds. Berries, fruits and small
insects are also part of their diet.

Sparrows build their nests out of twigs, grass and plant parts in low 10
places like on the ground, in clumps of grass, bushes and low trees. Rarely found in
high places, their nests are also found in buildings nooks of cities too.

Female sparrows lay four to six eggs at a time. The eggs are white with
reddish-brown spots. The eggs hatch within eleven to fourteen days. Both the male and
female parents care for the young and feed them insects. Young sparrows are ready to
leave the nest eight to ten days after hatching.

Do you know that there are about 140 different species of sparrows? 15
They can be found on every continent except Antarctica!
