Program Overview:
B. Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the earliest to start among the core subjects.
The structure of the course has undergone a face-lift with the introduction of subjects from computer
science and electronics engineering streams. Thus students in Electrical engineering have the flexibility
to broaden their horizons in electronics or software related industries apart from the core subject fields.
For example, signal processing and communication theory related to mobile technology needs signal
processing, robotics require control theory as well as programming skills and integrated circuits need
VLSI techniques. Thus the electrical engineering stream is designed to provide you with several options
to choose from for your later years. Electrical Engineering use mathematics, electronics, computing
techniques and physics to solve real world problems. The Government of India plans to add another 100
GW of generation capacity by the 2017 and to pump 1.4 trillion to build national power transmission grid
which will enhance inter-regional transmission capacity to 32 GW by 2013. Hence power sector offers
lots of job opportunities for well qualified graduates.
The programme is thus designed to expose students to various subjects having applications in power
sectors, and IT and electronics related industries through outcome based teaching and learning process
which emphasizes practical exposure rather than memorization. A variety of activities such as mini
projects, seminars, interaction with industries, cultural activities and social activities are in place to hape
the all-round development of students.
The benefits of choosing electrical and electronics engineering:
• Flexibility to choose various fields upon graduation.
• Opportunity to work on live problems.
• Opportunity to work on environmental related technologies.
• Opportunity for programmers to develop software for electrical related projects.
Career Opportunities:
Graduates with electrical engineering degrees can choose from careers in a wide range of engineering
industries. These include aerospace industry, automotive, chemical, construction, defense, electronics,
fast moving consumer goods, marine materials and metals, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, power
generation, railway industry, telecoms and utilities industry. They also have opportunities in Government
organizations such as Public Works Department, Defense, Railways, Post and Telegraphs, Public Sector
Undertakings, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, National Building Construction Corporation
Ltd., etc. Other organizations / bodies like KPCTL, GESCOM, BESCOM, Housing Boards, Local Bodies
for construction works, Builders, etc. also recruit large number of graduates in electrical engineering.
An electrical engineering degree can also open plenty of other doors, such as - self employment, non-
engineering jobs in the engineering industries hospitality and health care institutions,
education institutions and so on.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING PATTERN CBCS and CAGP
CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) and CAGP (Continuous Assessment and Grading Pattern)
of Education
CBCS is a proven, advanced mode of learning in higher education which facilitates a student to have
some freedom in selecting his/her own choices in the curriculum for completing a Masters degree/
Degree program. It is more focused towards a student’s choice in providing a wide range of modules
available in a single campus across various disciplines offered by experts in the subjects. It leads to
quality education, with active teacher-student participation. In this system, three types of courses-Hard
Core (HC), Soft Core (SC) and Open Elective (OE) courses are offered.
Hard Core courses are compulsory and fundamental in requirement for a subject of study. These courses
cannot be substituted by any other course(s).
Soft Core courses are advanced courses. Every school of the University will furnish a detailed list of
need-based Soft Core courses and students can choose one/two or many of them depending upon the
program structure. The Soft Core course provides enough scope for advanced learning in a subject within
or outside the School.
Open Elective courses are the concept courses and are offered by each School of study. These courses
are general in nature and students have the freedom to choose any of them.
Every course offered will have three components associated with the teaching-learning process of the
course, namely., L:T:P wherein:
L stands for Lecture session consisting of classroom instruction.
T stands for Tutorial session consisting participatory discussion / self study/ desk work/ brief seminar
presentations by students and such other novel methods that make a student to absorb and assimilate
more effectively the contents delivered in the Lecture classes.
P stands for Practice session and it consists of Hands on Experience / Laboratory Experiments / Field
Studies / Case Studies that equip students to acquire the much required skill component.
In terms of credits, every one hour session of L amounts to 1 credit per Semester and a minimum of
two hour session of T or P amounts to 1 credit per Semester, over a period of one Semester of 16 weeks
for teaching-learning process. The total duration of a semester is 20 weeks inclusive of semester-end
examination.
A course shall have either or all the three components. However, majority of the courses under each of
the program being offered by the University have combination of either two or all the three components.
Generally the students registering for Master’s Degree Program will have to earn a minimum of 76 credits
to successfully complete the program. The minimum credits to be earned by the students registering for
degree programs vary based on the duration and the structure of the program.
The system provides opportunity for students to earn more credits and thereby acquire additional
Proficiency Certification / Proficiency Diploma.
65
CBCS and CAGP ADVANTAGES OF STUDYING UNDER CBCS - CAGP
• Students may undergo training on cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary environment and
subjects and acquire more focused and preferred knowledge.
• Students may acquire more soft skills from other subject(s) which are required for the career path in
addition to their regular subject knowledge.
