THE
The little girl’s eyes darted from side to side.
Her eyes, reflecting the horror around. WAR
Scores of wounded shuffled relentlessly behind
But not one from whose mouth escaped a sound. 57
For seven long years the girl had suffered
Yet, she was still so strong at heart.
Her life had barely eight years covered
But, like an adult, she was forced to play a part.
Her parents were lands away from her.
She knew no one around; She was alone.
Her determination to proceed was a constant reminder
Of her parents who were up in heaven’s abode.
Their own people had turned against them
The innocent, blamed and punished.
Compelled to evacuate the country which had stemmed
A war that had just begun to flourish.
For miles they walked , leaving memories behind,
Eventually reaching the shore.
It comprised of boats arranged to find
A safe haven that, for them, would open up their doors.
For the first time ever, the girl was prepared
To not be mistreated, misunderstood and mistaken.
She was ready to speak up and have her thoughts be shared
To break free from the stigma ; To awaken.
While her thoughts consumed her, commotion arose
They had finally reached safe land!
No sooner had the sand touched her toes
Than things went contrary to her plan.
Screams echoed through the air around her
As bullets pierced through everyone.
The girl stood still, frozen with fear;
She knew this was the last day she’d see the Sun.
When a bullet finally shot through her chest
Down her cheek rolled a tear.
The grim reaper would take her to her parents nest,
And for once, she had no fear.

That sunny, warm bright day,
With indication of full of gay
Was for me gloomy anyway
Like the water after sunset in the bay.

With delight , I bid farewell to this
With no sadness or hiss of bliss

As the experience was like the painful death of a fish.
In the near future, this experience I am never going to miss!

They were hungry there was no one to feed them.,

they had no clothes, there was no one to clothe them.

Children cried, some died and some wounded,

in this trauma how could they go to bed?

We travelled in cars, they had to run bare foot,

We decorated our homes, did they have any?

We relaxed on our sofas and beds, they wandered searching,

for a place to rest.

Wrecked houses, torn clothes, scratches and bruises was all they had.

For peace had disappeared, violence was all they heard.

But we pretend that we know nothing of this.

The one’s responsible for their pain are resting peacefully,

Known to none what she had to do
Wearing happiness each day

It seems like yesterday when we entered

in our minds were numerous like, Will our
