INTRODUCTION

Industrial Training (LI) is a program that will be completed by all students in certain course
at all of the Institute of Higher Education (IPT). This program is one of the compulsory
requirements that must be completed by each student at the Technical University of Malacca
(UTeM) to meet the requirements to graduate. Students will undergo and experience industrial
training at the companies they choose and accepted by universities that fit into their respective
fields for a period of 10 weeks which begins at 19th June 2017 until 25th August 2017.

During the course of industrial training, students are placed under the care of their
respective company and designated to any of the company’s department. Each student will
undergo industrial training on the dates and periods set by the university. The real objective for
the industrial training is to explore the real industrial working environment. When it comes to such
opportunities, it is a very valuable experience and knowledge that students can use in the future.

Another objective of this industrial practice is to practice students with the nature of work.
This can extend the way students adapt to the world of work as well as to practice what they have
learned throughout the course of study. Besides that, the industrial training program can strengthen
the network between university and companies. UTeM will be recognized as one of the prime
university that produce great engineer.

1

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of industrial training is to expose the students to the real world of work.
Students are exposed more to a formal learning atmosphere at their campus. The focus of the
students is more focused on the common tasks that the lecturers give them. Throughout the day,
they face the same problem which is only to solve the slide example and homework. Their thinking
is limited and unable to explore further. But industrial training program, it can open the students
mind about the outside world especially to the working environment and it can help students to
feel the different atmosphere they've been through before. Students can differentiate the work
environment and learning environment.

Besides that, the main objective of this industry training is to train students to practice
ethical work ethics and to comply with all that has been set in their respective firms. As is known,
students are subject to the laws of their respective IPTs. Similarly, they are subject to the laws of
their respective companies. Strictly speaking, nature of learning and work is two different
situations, but both require students to acquire the same knowledge. With this kind of program
students are trained to be more dynamic and able to adapt in various circumstances including
different rules.

2

In addition, through this program, students can develop effective communication skills. At
their training companies, students are required to interact with the public, especially with
colleagues and users. Effective communication is essential to establish mutual understanding
between the two parties. This can indirectly help students to sharpen interaction skills to become
better communicator. Not only that, but the industry's training can also educate students in getting
involved in team work. University students are trained to instill teamwork among colleagues while
solving a problem. When they are able to work together in solving problems, the mutual
relationship between colleagues will improve and mutual respect for each other.

CHAPTER 4
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

4.1 CONCLUSION
Throughout the course of Industrial Training at Likom Caseworks Sdn Bhd, I have been

exposed to many activities and tasks here. It exposes me to the true nature of work, it is very good
for students especially myself, because by undergoing this industrial training student can open
their thoughts in order to be more creative and knowledgeable. Trainee are also able to identify
problems that often arise in the real work situation. It will further enhance the ability of students
to think, be independent and learn to solve problems effectively and more importantly to create
creative, critical and quality work.

Throughout the training period, I was able to identify some of the strengths and weaknesses
in myself while undergoing industrial training in the company. However, this weakness can be
used to improved myself into better person. Organizational principles and administrative functions
play an important role in establishing a solid organization. Planning, coordination and control are
essential to aligning all tasks. A well-established and brilliant organization must be effective and
effective in making decisions and planning and this is a key principle in an effective organizational
management. In addition, with this exercise also, I was trained to become a disciplined and
fulfilling time when working. Communication skills can also be practiced between me and staff.

32

This industry training has also exposed trainees on teamwork and exchange ideas with
other staff. Through this industry training, it is clear that training objectives have been achieved
throughout the ten-week training. It can therefore be concluded that all the exposures that have
been given to trainees during this exercise are very useful and need to be utilized in the future.
Such training can also produce a knowledgeable and highly qualified graduates.

4.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
During in industrial training, many experience, lesson and also skill that the trainee can

get from among workers and also from management. However, it still has issues that must be repair
and taking care to improve the university or the company system at future. At this company, it has
many recommendations idea that can help the company to be better place as working environment.
That recommendations are suggested to university and also company.

33

Recommendation for University
The university side who managing the undergraduate students that involved in

industrial training must play an important role when they are in training. They need to give more
attention about the administration in handling the practical student. Besides that, they must always
make monitoring towards students during industry training session. Through monitoring, the
university’s management can see performance and trainee discipline during industry training to
ensure the university’s name always keep in good sight.

For the recommendation:
1. Strengthen further about the administration for student which in practical.
2. Monitoring each student that in industry training at least one month once to observe their
performance and their discipline.
3. Take action to students that are troubled and have problem.
4. Make the format of training report easier.

34

Recommendation for company

When the student in training at Likom Caseworks Sdn Bhd, it still has a problem that can be
fix and can be improved in the future. For example, that company was less hospitable and friendly
between trainee and company’s management. It is most important things because it can help to
make a better communication and become closely to each other beside to make the work easier to
handle together.

For the recommendation:

1. The trainee should be given a chance doing the technical work on their own with the
authorized supervision. This will give more experience to the student instead of just
looking the technical work being done.

2. Provide a training schedule and module for the trainees. This training Modules will guide
the trainee for the whole training period. So the trainee will not have so much free time and
has the chance to work under authorized personal with engineers, coordinators and
technicians.

3. The leader must give the information about the tools or the place before the trainee starting
their practical and before doing one work.

4. The company’s management must keep the connection between trainee, worker and also
management more closely to each other.
