Dear Friends and Supporters,As I reflect on 2024, I am filled with gratitude for the generosity, passion, and dedication of our donors, volunteers, and community partners. This year has been a testament to the profound impact that philanthropy can have on the lives of patients, families, and our communities. Because of you, we have been able to support innovative programs, invest in groundbreaking initiatives, provide associate support, and expand access to compassionate care for those underserved.Your generosity has fueled our ability to make a difference in meaningful ways. Thanks to generous donor support, we have strengthened critical services such as Patient and Family Support Services, expanded behavioral health resources, enhanced our birthing centers, and provided life-changing care through initiatives like the Mobile Dental Clinic. These efforts improve health outcomes and offer hope, healing, and a sense of community for those facing life’s toughest challenges.A shining example of the impact of philanthropy is the opening of the Women and Infants Hospital, a direct result of the continued support for the Care for Tomorrow campaign. This facility now stands as a beacon of hope for mothers and babies, providing world-class care to those in need. Your commitment to this campaign has helped make this vision a reality, and we are incredibly proud to see it come to life.Today, the generosity of our donors, much like the Daughters of Charity, continues to fuel our Mission. The Foundation demonstrates that when compassionate individuals unite to support patients and families, the holistic, patient-centered care that is the focus of our ministries statewide is strengthened. We are proud to carry on this legacy with your continued partnership. On behalf of our entire Foundation team and the countless lives we have touched, thank you for believing in our Mission and making a lasting impact. 6Dedicated volunteer turns passion into impact Suzie Byers has been a dedicated volunteer, giving her time, energy, and heart to Ascension St. Vincent Evansville for more than 30 years. Her journey began when she was introduced to the Auxiliary while her father was in the hospital. Since that time, she has contributed an astonishing 25,000 volunteer hours, serving in multiple departments. Suzie has also played a vital role on the Auxiliary board of directors and in the hospital’s Prayer Blanket Ministry, crocheting blankets—each adorned with a sewn cross and a personal prayer—for cancer patients and families in need of comfort.Suzie’s connection to the 6th-floor sundeck began with her father-in-law’s surgeries and deepened when her husband, Bill, found peace there during his hospital stay. Moved by those memories, Suzie decided to contribute to its renovation. After exploring her personal giving options, she chose to transfer stock—a simple and impactful way to give. The process was seamless: a quick call to her stockbroker and the gift was transferred to the Evansville Foundation, specifically for the sundeck renovation.Suzie has remained closely involved in the project’s progress, which is scheduled for completion in 2025. She encourages others to find meaningful ways to give back. “Find your niche,” she advises. “Whether your donation is large or small, you can make a difference in the lives of patients and families at Ascension St. Vincent.”The sundeck serves as a refuge for patients, caregivers, and associates alike. While anyone in the hospital can use the space, oncology patients often find it particularly meaningful. The care team actively incorporates the sundeck into the healing process, assisting patients—whether in wheelchairs or hospital beds—so they can experience the therapeutic benefits of fresh air and natural light.Lisa, a hospital associate, shares one of the sundeck’s most profound moments. One particularly moving story involved a terminally ill patient whose dying wish was to pass away at his lakeside home. However, due to his need for continuous medication, leaving the hospital was not an option. After discussing alternatives, he and his family chose the sundeck as the place where he would take his final breath. The care team ensured privacy, transferring him to the sunlit space where he felt warmth on his face, surrounded by loved ones. It was a deeply emotional moment for his family and for the associates who assisted in fulfilling his wishes. When two family members arrived too late to say goodbye, Lisa took them to the sundeck, where they found solace and peace in his final moments. The sundeck renovation, made possible by Suzie’s vision and generosity, will continue to offer spiritual and holistic healing for patients, families, and associates. It is a testament to the impact of thoughtful giving and the power of a space designed for peace, comfort, and connection. To learn more about ways to give, including planned giving opportunities, please review our Ways to Give (page 34) or give.stvincent.org/legacy. Ascension St. Vincent Foundation SUPPORTING OUR MISSIONFunding PrioritiesThe Foundation is committed to making a lasting impact on Ascension St. Vincent patients and families by funding initiatives that enhance patient care, support our associates, and elevate the overall healthcare experience. Through generous donor contributions, we invest in these four focus areas:10The Ascension St. Vincent Foundation is dedicated to advancing compassionate, patient-centered care within our statewide ministry. Charitable contributions from generous supporters—patients, community members and organizations—fund programs and projects focused on holistic care that extend beyond traditional healthcare services, allowing new ways to improve outcomes and create positive experiences for those we serve.1. 11SUPPORTING OUR MISSIONHealth Access: Bridging the gap for those underservedAccess to quality healthcare services is one of the most pressing challenges facing many people today, and Ascension St. Vincent is committed to serving all persons with special attention to the poor and vulnerable. Through innovative programs and dedicated community outreach, we are working to break down barriers to care, regardless of circumstances. For over 24 years, Health Access, a community-based care coordination program, has been a lifeline for patients and families seeking better access to health, human, and social services. With Community Health Workers in 16 locations throughout Indiana, Health Access offers hands-on assistance to individuals facing challenges related to medical care, food insecurity, housing, financial needs, pregnancy support, and more. Using the evidence-based Pathways Model, the program ensures comprehensive, coordinated care that leads to real, measurable improvements in people’s lives.Whether it’s helping someone find a primary care provider, apply for insurance, access food, or secure transportation to a medical appointment, Health Access serves as a trusted partner in navigating the often-complex healthcare and social services systems. Through the Foundation-funded Lyft and local transportation programs, patients without reliable transportation can receive rides to and from their medical appointments, ensuring they never miss the care they need due to a lack of transportation. This service eliminates a significant barrier to health access and helps patients stay on track with their treatment plans. This community-focused program is about more than just healthcare—it’s about empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building healthier communities. When Roger, a man in his 70s battling heroin addiction and unstable housing, first met Nicole Kowalski, Director of Health Access, he shared his fears—fear of stopping the one thing that gave him peace and fear of disappointing his doctor. Nicole simply listened, offered food and bus passes, and told him, “When you’re ready, I’m here.”Two months later, Roger left a voicemail: “Nicole, I am ready. If I don’t go today, I won’t go at all.” She immediately arranged transportation to a treatment center. Weeks later, Roger returned sober, committed to counseling, and determined to break free from his environment. Housing options were limited, but together, they searched for a solution. Months later, Roger walked in beaming—he had secured a home of his own. With a place to call his own and a support system in place, he was on a new path.Shortly after, Nicole received one final voicemail from Roger, “You believed in me. You never gave up. You always said thank you and that meant something. I should have been the one thanking you. So, thank you, Nicole.”Health Access doesn’t just provide resources—it restores dignity, hope, and the chance for a fresh start.Indiana Health Access team2024 Annual Impact Report
12Care for Tomorrow: Transforming women and infant careSUPPORTING OUR MISSIONThe opening of the Women and Infants Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis marks a monumental achievement in healthcare for mothers and babies across Indiana. This state-of-the-art facility, an extension of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, stands as a testament to the power of philanthropy and community commitment through the Care for Tomorrow campaign.Led by Campaign Chair Peyton Manning, this historic fundraising effort has provided the financial foundation for a range of essential expansions and improvements, ensuring that mothers and babies receive the highest standard of care in a compassionate environment. The new Women and Infants Hospital addresses a critical need in Indiana, a state facing some of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the nation. As a Level IV regional perinatal healthcare center, the facility is equipped to handle the most complex, high-risk pregnancies, ensuring the best possible care for both mother and child. With 109 private Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) rooms, including central Indiana’s first ‘couplet’ rooms—where mothers and infants can receive care together—the hospital is designed to improve outcomes for at-risk pregnancies and newborns requiring specialized care.Statistics show that nearly one in three mothers in Indiana does not receive prenatal care in the first trimester, increasing risks associated with high blood pressure, obesity, and substance use. The Women and Infants Hospital allows access to care that can save lives.Ascension St. Vincent Foundation

17ENHANCING PATIENT CARE WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT Enhancing pediatric care at Peyton Manning Children’s HospitalA hospital stay or medical visit can be overwhelming for a child, but creating a warm, engaging, and comforting environment can make all the difference. At Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, newly designed themed and sensory-friendly rooms are transforming the patient experience, providing young patients with spaces that promote healing, ease anxiety, and bring a sense of comfort and joy—thanks to the generosity of dedicated donors.Within the inpatient unit, the Fairy Tale Room, funded by the 33rd Annual Cornette Ball, and the Championship Room, supported by The Ted and Clare Ziemer Society, immerse children in imaginative settings that create a welcome distraction and a more positive hospital stay. Research shows that environments like these help reduce stress and improve overall well-being, making them an integral part of the healing process.Just hours after the ribbon cutting, Zamir became the first patient to stay in the new Championship-themed room. His mother, Ca’Metria, shared how the child-friendly space made a huge difference: “Last time, he was scared. This time, he was excited to enter the room. It met all our needs.” Charge nurse James remembers Zamir’s joy: “His face lit up when he saw the sports-themed walls naming all the sports.” The Championship Room not only made a difference for Zamir but also for his mother. Whilestaying close to her son, Ca’Metria found space to work comfortably, making it easier to balance caregiving with other responsibilities. This space is already making a difference—for patients, families, and associates. At the outpatient Center for Children, new sensory rooms now offer a calming refuge for children with sensory processing challenges—thanks to a grant from the Mother Bear Foundation. 19ENHANCING PATIENT CARE WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT The impact of simulation on pulmonary critical care trainingThe Graduate Medical Education (GME) program and the William K. Nasser, MD, Healthcare Education and Simulation Center’s cadaver lab in Indianapolis play a critical role in enhancing the education of medical fellows, particularly in high-stakes fields like Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine (PCCM). One notable participant, Dr. Brandon Pearce, a second-year PCCM fellow, shared how the cadaver lab has significantly improved his medical training and patient care.“The cadaver lab has been invaluable not only in my education but also in the real-world care of patients. It allows us to practice life-saving procedures in a low-risk, stress-free environment. I distinctly remember a situation where I had to perform an emergent surgical thoracotomy on a patient, just a week after performing the procedure in the lab. I was able to act with confidence and precision, thanks to my prior experience in the cadaver lab,” Dr. Pearce explains. The Healthcare Education and Simulation Center has supported the development of these essential skills through the use of 39 unique cadaveric specimens and tissues, providing a hands-on learning experience that enhances fellows’ preparedness for real-life medical emergencies. This initiative has had far-reaching effects, as evidenced by the 23,598 people who attended educational events and the 153,389 contact hours completed. The cadaver lab’s integration in the GME program provides medical fellows like Dr. Pearce with the opportunity to refine their skills and also contributes to better patient outcomes. It serves as a testament to the commitment to high-quality education and the advancement of healthcare. The Foundation funded over $1.6 million statewide to advance technology and equipment for enhanced patient care.2024 Annual Impact Report

21ELEVATING THE PATIENT AND FAMILY EXPERIENCEMore than medicine: Helping children thrive during treatmentHospitalization often presents emotional and logistical challenges for both children and their families. Beyond medical treatment, a patient’s emotional support, comfort, and a sense of normalcy are crucial to the healing process. That’s why Healing Arts, Pet Therapy, Child Life, and the School Program play an essential role in caring for the whole child—not just the illness. Patient and Family Support Services at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital amplifies this holistic approach by offering programs that address the emotional and psychological well-being of patients and their families. For children like Cambryn, art therapy became a source of joy and emotional expression. During a therapy session, Cambryn and board certified Art Therapist Emily shared a meaningful connection as they engaged in creative activities together. Through painting, drawing, and talking, Cambryn found a creative outlet to process her feelings. Healing Arts provides children with a positive distraction from pain and anxiety, making the hospital feel less intimidating. For Antoinette, visits from Naia, a specially trained therapy dog, brought moments of pure happiness during her hospital stay. Pet Therapy helps lower stress, reduce pain, and provide companionship—reminding young patients that they are never alone in their journey.Ava and certified Child Life Specialist Courtney utilized education to help understand the how and why a PeripherallyInserted Central Catheter (PICC) was used during her treatment. Child life specialists use play, education, and emotional support to help children understand their diagnosis and treatment in ways they can understand. Child Life Specialists ensure that young patients feel empowered rather than fearful.A cancer diagnosis disrupts every part of life, including school, but thanks to the School Program, Arielle didn’t have to fall behind. With the support of Ms. Heather, one of our certified school teachers, the two of them worked one-onone to ensure Arielle didn’t fall behind. This program helps students keep up with coursework during their treatment, maintain a sense of normalcy, and transition back to school when they are ready. These four programs part of Patient and Family Support Services are made possible through generous donor support. They offer children moments of joy, comfort, and learning, proving that healing isn’t just about medicine—it’s about emotional resilience, creativity, and connection.Arielle with Ms. Heather, School Program teacher Cambryn with Emily, board certified Art Therapist Avah with Courtney, board certified Child Life SpecialistAntoinette with Naia, pet therapy dog2024 Annual Impact Report
22Transforming smiles and lives: The impact of the Mobile Dental ClinicELEVATING THE PATIENT AND FAMILY EXPERIENCEAccess to dental care can be a life-changing opportunity for children and families in need. The Mobile Dental Clinic at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville is more than just a service on wheels—it’s a pillar of support for those facing financial, emotional, and logistical barriers to essential healthcare. The story of one young man’s journey through this program perfectly illustrates its lasting impact.Stacy Woodall, a Health Access Advocate in Evansville, recalls working with a student whose life circumstances were far from easy. His dental coverage had lapsed a short while after losing his mother. Navigating the complexities of healthcare coverage seemed like an insurmountable task, but thanks to the Mobile Dental Clinic, everything changed. Stacy helped him regain Medicaid coverage, opening the door to necessary dental care. After an initial visit to the Mobile Dental Clinic, it became clear that his dental issues required specialized care, including an oral surgeon and eventually a specialist in Indianapolis. Before the clinic had access to rideshare services, transportation posed a major challenge. Stacy and other team members personally drove him to several appointments. The Mobile Dental Clinic team recalls that his results were transformational. After receiving the care he needed, this young man graduated from high school, went on to college on a full scholarship, and today, he has a stable career at Toyota–breaking free from the cycle of financial struggle. His story is a testament to the power of compassionate care in the lives of our youngest patients. Healthcare extends beyond checkups—it’s about opening doors and removing barriers, building confidence and creating opportunities for our patients. This young man’s journey shows us that brighter smiles can truly lead to brighter futures.Ensuring underserved has access Access to healthcare should never be hindered by financial barriers or lack of resources. Through the generous support of the Barbara Borland Peele Fund, the Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo Foundation is making it possible for underserved patients to access critical services, including transportation and medication support.Through the case management team and our statewide partnership with Lyft and other local rideshare and transportation entities, eligible patients can receive free rides to medical appointments. This program ensures that lack of transportation does not become a reason for missed care—especially following a hospital discharge when follow-up appointments are crucial to recovery.Local to Kokomo, Kokomo Cab and Eugene Lawman Transport provide essential rides for the acute hospital, emergency room, and Trinity Health Care patients. In 2024, rides were coordinated for more than 225 patients in Kokomo, helping them access the care they needed. These costs, which might otherwise be a barrier for many, are fully covered thanks to the Barbara Borland Peelle Fund. After a devastating firework accident, 34-year-old Marcus* was left with severe burns, open wounds, and vision loss. Discharged from the hospital, he faced a new challenge—how to get to critical follow-up appointments when he couldn’t drive and had no support nearby. 23ELEVATING THE PATIENT AND FAMILY EXPERIENCEFinding healing and joy at CAMP HOPEFor children who have experienced the loss of a loved one, grief can be a confusing and isolating journey. To help young hearts begin to heal, the Foundation proudly supports CAMP HOPE—a free, two-day bereavement camp designed specifically for children and teens navigating the loss of a loved one.Offered through The Anderson Center at Ascension St. Vincent, CAMP HOPE provides a safe, supportive environment where children can process their loss alongside others who truly understand what they’re going through. Through therapeutic activities, grief education, and emotional support, campers are gently guided through their individual journeys.Led by trained mental health counselors, volunteers, and medical professionals, the camp offers meaningful ways for kids to express their feelings, including art therapy, music therapy, and guided group discussions. Campers are reminded that it’s okay to laugh, cry, and speak openly about the people they miss. In this space of empathy and understanding, many children form deep and lasting friendships—connections that remind them they are not alone. For 16-year-old Ethan,* CAMP HOPE offered a turning point. After losing both of his grandparents within the same year, Ethan was overwhelmed with grief. His mother reached out to The Anderson Center and enrolled him in the camp, hoping it might help. What they found was far more than a program—it was a healing experience.“Thank you again for the past two days. My son really enjoyed camp and we loved the family day that was planned. 25FOSTERING CREATIVE APPROACHES TO HEALTHCAREMemory boxes and bracelets offer comfort after lossWhen a family experiences the heartbreak of pregnancy or infant loss, it can feel like they’re leaving the hospital with empty arms and shattered dreams. That’s why the Resolve Through Sharing (RTS) bereavement team at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo provides lovingly created memory boxes—so no family leaves without something to hold. Each box contains treasured mementos gathered by our team: tiny footprints and handprints, a measuring tape, photos, a blanket and outfit, and a card noting the baby’s birth details. These items are more than keepsakes—they are a way for grieving families to remember, honor, and stay connected to their baby.“Memory boxes are more than just keepsakes–they are a way for parents to hold on to the fleeting moments they had with their baby,” says Julie Ward, manager of Women and Infant Services at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo. “These boxes help preserve memories that might otherwise be lost, and they provide a sense of comfort and connection in the midst of unimaginable grief.”In addition to the boxes, families also receive a Hudson’s Bands of Hope bracelet—a simple, meaningful way to carry their baby’s memory. The tradition began with Misty Howell, a mother who lost her son to stillbirth. Struggling to remove her hospital band, Misty’s mother gifted her a charm bracelet to wear in Hudson’s memory. That gesture sparked this program that continues today through the RTS ministry. Every mother cared for by our Kokomo team—whether through the birthing center, emergency department, surgery, or obstetrics office—receives a bracelet.Grief materials are also tailored for dads, grandparents, and siblings. Tiny hats and clothes, many donated or specially purchased, are used to dress the baby—then lovingly returned to the family as part of their memory box. These small touches—the bracelet on a wrist, a photo in a frame, a blanket folded gently in a box—can never replace the loss. But they can offer families something to hold onto in their grief, and a way to carry their baby’s memory forward. This start-up program goes above and beyond traditional care and shows compassion for our patients and their families in a unique way.Peyton N, Alysse H, Alex B, Megan B, Kiara C, Felisha L, Nicky T, Julie W The Foundation supported books for ages newborn to 5 years of age given at patient wellness check ups to encourage reading and learning amongst our patients and families.2024 Annual Impact Report
A steady hand during uncertain timesFOSTERING CREATIVE APPROACHES TO HEALTHCAREWhen Dwayne Mckinley, Jr. was hospitalized for a lifethreatening condition that required ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), his family was overwhelmed–facing a complicated care plan, unfamiliar medical terms, and the uncertainty of what came next. They were not alone. Thanks to the Pediatric Nurse Navigator program at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, Dwayne and his family had someone to walk alongside them every step of the way. From the moment he was admitted, a dedicated Pediatric Nurse Navigator was involved in Dwayne’s care. They reviewed his progress regularly using electronic medical records, attended unit huddles and case conferences, and participated in palliative care rounds. This behind-the-scenes coordination ensured that Dwayne’s care was both comprehensive and consistent. As Dwayne’s discharge date approached, the Nurse Navigator met one-on-one with his family to explain the post-ECMO plan of care. They made sure every question was answered and every appointment was scheduled in advance—taking care to align follow-up visits with the family’s availability. The support didn’t stop when Dwayne left the hospital. In the eight months following his discharge, Dwayne’s family has received 14 follow-up contacts from the Nurse Navigator. These included health education, help securing medical equipment, assistance with employment-related paperwork, and a referral to social services to evaluate the family’s financial needs. The Navigator continued to collaborate with Dwayne’s primary care provider, clarify medical orders, and coordinate appointments to keep his recovery on track. The Pediatric Nurse Navigator provided a smoother transition from hospital to home resulting in less stress on Dwayne’s parents and peace of mind knowing they always have someone to call—a consistent, compassionate advocate who understands their child’s needs.Because of philanthropic support, families like Dwayne’s never have to navigate a complex medical journey alone. Donors played a pivotal role in launching the program—dedicating funds to support two full-time pediatric nurse navigators for the first 10 years. The Pediatric Nurse Navigator program delivers far more than clinical coordination—it provides hope, clarity, and connection at a time when families need it most. And for Dwayne and so many others, it’s made all the difference. Scan the QR code to learn more about Dwayne’s healthcare journey. Empowering care teams to train a The Foundation is proud to support the health and safety of our community by equipping Ascension St. Vincent Anderson care team members with the tools and training needed to educate others. Through funding for Stop the Bleed kits and instructional materials, the Foundation directly enabled trauma team leaders to teach community groups, schools, and hospital staff how to respond in a crisis. Thanks to this support, care team members like Chelsea Gardner, trauma program manager, and Sarah Farmer, injury prevention and outreach coordinator, were able to lead 12 Stop the Bleed classes last fiscal year—training 520 trauma team members, emergency personnel, local school nurses, and other first responders in critical, life-saving skills. These hands-on sessions, often paired with CPR education, empower participants to take immediate action in emergency situations, potentially saving lives before professional help arrives.“We are incredibly grateful for the Anderson Foundation’s generous support,” shared Chelsea and Sarah. “Because of this investment in training materials and equipment, we’re able to bring life-saving education to more people in our community. The Foundation has truly helped us extend our mission and reach those who need this knowledge most.”26Dwayne McKinley Jr.Ascension St. Vincent Foundation
27FOSTERING CREATIVE APPROACHES TO HEALTHCAREShaping the future of healthcare by empowering local studentsThe Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Foundation has been helping future doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers since 2018 through a special summer day camp called the Health Care Academy for Medical Professionals, or HCAMP. This fun and hands-on camp lets high school students learn what it’s like to work in healthcare. The camp ceased several years back due to the pandemic, but in 2024, it came back better than ever! Thanks to the Foundation’s support, HCAMP now has even more great activities and learning opportunities.Due to the revitalization of HCAMP, two cohorts of 45 rising sophomores from across the region participated in the weeklong program, which introduced students to a wide variety of health disciplines through immersive, hands-on learning experiences. From patient care units at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville to behind-the-scenes tours, students gained invaluable exposure to real-world healthcare environments.Dedicated medical staff, alongside educators from the University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, the Stone Center, and Ivy Tech Community College, helped bring the HCAMP experience to life. And while students were the primary audience, the impact extended far beyond them.“HCAMPs was a great opportunity to live through the eyes of a young, eager high school student,” shared Madyson Fieth (Elliott), MSN, RN, CMSRN, Clinical Coordinator at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville. “These students rely on us for guidance and expertise, and it’s an honor to help ignite their passion for the healthcare field.”These future health professionals left the program not only with new knowledge, but also with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. Every single HCAMP participant has continued their healthcare journey by stepping into volunteer roles within the ministry—continuing to grow and give back. And for those already working in the field, the experience of mentoring eager, curious students provided a powerful reminder of why they chose healthcare in the first place. As a result of generous donor support, HCAMP continues to shape the future of healthcare—sparking inspiration in tomorrow’s leaders and breathing new energy into today’s caregivers. The Foundation’s commitment to community safety extends beyond trauma response. By also funding Bingocize—a creative program that blends fall prevention education with exercise and social engagement—the Foundation helped our care teams deliver a fun, accessible way for older adults to stay active and reduce their risk of injury. Funding covered course materials, equipment, and program licensing, allowing caregivers to guide seniors in building strength and confidence.By supporting our care teams with the resources they need to lead, the Foundation is helping build a healthier, safer, and more resilient community—one training at a time.2024 Annual Impact ReportChelsea Gardner and Sarah Farmer lead Stop the Bleed classes.

29EMPOWERING AND SUPPORTING OUR ASSOCIATES$34.77 Associate Hardship Assistance tends to family in needWhen Michelle Meyer, 30-year Anderson associate, faced a life-changing medical crisis, she turned to the $34.77 Associate Hardship Assistance Program for support. Michelle’s health took a drastic turn when a kidney stone infection landed her in the emergency room. After returning home, she suddenly began turning blue, and her daughters called an ambulance, “I remember telling my daughters I loved them,” Michelle recalled. After spending months in critical care, in a coma on a respirator, she was relocated to Seton Cove in Indianapolis and then to the 86th Street campus in Indianapolis for another surgery. After undergoing multiple surgeries, she experienced the loss of both arms and legs below her knees. During her recovery, Michelle received vital support from associates, physicians, and care team members through the associate hardship assistance program. Michelle’s daughter expresses her deep gratitude for the assistance her family received, which helped cover groceries, housing, and utility bills during the challenging time.Foundation donor Dr. Kashif Abdul-Rahman contributed to the associate assistance hardship program, reflecting on his own personal past, “Years ago I watched my mom pay for groceries with food stamps, I was embarrassed and ashamed and thought–how could we be in this situation?” He added, “People helped us through those times and for me, giving to the hardship fund through the Anderson Foundation is a way to pay back that kindness from decades ago. Hopefully those we help now will be able to pay it back in the future too.”Michelle had always wanted to work in the emergency medical field, following in her mother’s footsteps, a hospital operator, and her stepdad, an EMT in Marion, Indiana, and after fulfilling her dream, she retired in March 2024 after 30 years of service at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson. After months of rehabilitation, Michelle found strength and motivation through music therapy, using it as a source of comfort during her recovery. In August 2024, Michelle completed her first 5k, then a second 5k. Her third 5k is scheduled in 2025. “The associate hardship fund provided a ton of relief to me and my younger sister when we needed it the most. We didn’t have to stress over how we were going to pay for rent, utilities and food. We were able to dedicate our full attention and prayers to mom’s recovery.” –Sami, Michelle’s daughter2024 Annual Impact Report

35Exciting news for 2025Philanthropy continues to make a significant impact on our ministry, driven by the generosity of donors, particularly those inspired by the exceptional care they or their loved ones have received. In January, the Foundation launched a year-round associate giving initiative known as the Associates All-IN Campaign. This is a statewide challenge focused on creating a culture of giving. This campaign will offer a meaningful way for our associates to contribute to the ongoing success of the organization while establishing an endowment to support Health Access or a local ministry most important to them. The Foundation was honored to receive a transformative gift from Katie and Morgan Lucas and the Lucas Family, longtime supporters of the Foundation, to advance neurological care at Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis. This gift, given in gratitude for the care their family has experienced and their commitment to our Mission, led to the naming of Lucas Family Brain and Spine Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent. The new name and the Lucas family’s generosity were announced and celebrated in February, with the new facility opening later in 2025.Ascension St. Vincent is Indiana’s leading provider of world-class heart care, and is known for its programs and services that include industry-leading heart specialists, modern facilities, and cutting-edge technology. The cardiology workforce is facing a critical shortage as many cardiologists approach retirement age, intensifying the urgency to expand the number of trained professionals. Details about how philanthropy is playing a role to help establish the Eric N. Prystowsky, MD Cardiology Fellowship will be shared in 2025. 2025 marks a pivotal year for the Mobile Dental Clinic at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville as it celebrates 25 years of serving our community.
