Essay Title
Zoom meet application is the most used for online meetings during pandemic.

INTRODUCTION

Since COVID-19 has been recognized by World Health Organization (WHO) that it is a plague
that could cause death. As result, public places, companies, and schools have to be closed
so millions of people are being forced to stay home to slow down the spread of COVID-19. All
activities have to be carried out at home and transformed into online meetings and classes
that can be accessed online. Although all of us stay at home many people still have found
creative ways to virtually stay in society. And the most common way is through Zoom. Zoom
is a video communication platform of choice for federal governments, tech startups, religious
communities, and of course regular people who are looking to chat or have discussions with
other people. (William Antonelli, 2020) Besides that, we can even have a party with their
friends and family.

Meanwhile, for students zoom is an application for online learning. To access online learning
between teachers and students, it must be supported by devices such as software and
hardware. ( Oranburg, 2020) The hardware equipment for online learning includes computers
in CPUs, laptops, webcams, microphones, and internet networks. For software, the teachers
and students also need to know how to use online learning support applications such as video
call applications, like Zoom, and others. This kind of video conference can allow users in
different locations to hold a meeting without having to move or meet at the same location. This
technology lets teachers and students feel comfortable when learning is done live.

The online meeting brings many kinds of advantages to us, especially for company. Firstly, an
online meeting needs lower expenses compared to a vertical meeting. ( Laura Holton, 2021)
This is because the company did not need to pay fees for their workers to travel from a location
to another location and can save down the money for accommodation and catering. For
example, at present, if the meeting is being organized in China the company need to pay flight
ticket, hotel, and catering fees for the worker but now during the pandemic, the worker needs
to stay at home and can have met through zoom meet application although the meeting was
held in China.

Besides that, the second advantage of the online meeting is all the participants can involved
in the meeting. ( Laura Holton, 2021) It is very difficult to pick a time and place which is suitable
for everyone. Maybe some cannot arrive at the destination for meeting on time or maybe the
place for meeting is too small and cannot contain the amount of person for a meeting. But for
a vertical meeting, it would be easier because everyone can connect from wherever they are.
People who have limited time still be able to attend the meeting for at least a few minutes.
Moreover, zoom has a recording function so they can watch the recording back. If during the
meeting had a presentation, they can also view the slides. But when the meeting is face to
face if the size of the word is too small the person who sits behind cannot watch clearly. During
online meetings, employees can also save screenshots of key information to use later. This
action can help them to avoid mistakes.

Although there are many types of online learning platforms such as zoom, google meet, skype
but most people still choose to use the zoom during an online meeting. The use of online
applications is increasing every week. Meanwhile, the number of Zoom applications has
increased significantly, reaching 183 percent starting from 6th to 26th March 2020. On 26th
March, the Zoom application recorded 257,853 users, in 19th March, the user reached 91,030
users. So let discuss the advantages of using zoom. (Hendri pratama , Mohamed nor azhari
azman, gulzhaina k. kassymova, & Shakizat s. duisenbayeva, 2020).

Firstly, the prices and plans for the zoom meet application. Zoom is available for basic versions
which are free of charge but only for 40 minutes per meeting and only for one host. But this is
not enough for a big company, to have meetings using the free version on both online
platforms. So, Zoom has three kinds of plans that range from $14.99 to $19.99 per month per
user. If the company wishes to expand the meeting capacity to 1,000 participants, it is
available with all paid plans and additional cloud storage can be purchased with Zoom starting
at $40 per month. Besides that, Zoom offers a good range of in-demand video conferencing
tools such as screen and app sharing, meeting recordings, meeting transcripts, chat,
participant spotlight, and virtual backgrounds. (Janette Novak, Cassie Bottorff, 2021) For
breakout rooms and meetings, recordings are available on all Zoom plans.

In the early days, anyone with a link could enter a meeting. This action is to make the host or
participants easier. Unfortunately, it causes backfired when outsiders joined, disrupted
meetings and the host had no control over their access. From that day onward, Zoom has
added valuable security features to protect users' data and meetings. For example, a waiting
room where the host can see participants and can admit invitees. This can avoid strangers to
attend the meeting. Furthermore, end-to-end encryption of your data which including video,
audio, and chat. The host also can control others feature such as screen sharing, changing
screen names, invitees needing passwords to join meetings, and so on. (Bill Peatman, 2021)

Lastly, to use Zoom you do not need to be an IT expert. This is because it can be activated
instantly on Zoom’s cloud or deployed on internal servers in 30 minutes onsite using the Zoom
Meeting Connector, an extension of Zoom's cloud infrastructure that is used in your internal
network. (Bill Peatman, 2021) Although there are limitations Zoom also has the best video
resolution of any video conferencing platform. You get high-definition resolution with the free
version and up to 1080p with paid accounts. The quality of the meeting is also related to the
quality of your internet connection.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. Online meeting not just
brings advantages to us but also some disadvantages such as harm to our health. But at this
moment, online meeting is the best choice for us.
