Welcome to your first year at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business. This year, you will be introduced to a myriad of new
topics, concepts, and ideas that will start your journey of understanding who you are, whom you want to become, and
what you believe. Here at CUA-Zarb, you have a wide range of support to help you on this journey.

As you participate in the first-year advising program, you will learn more about
college life, the business degree requirements, and options for your future.
During your first-year, it is important to take time to learn about the academic

Business Curriculum Overview
As a reminder from our Zarb Summer Orientation advisement conversation, all
students in the Zarb School of Business earn a Bachelor in Business
Administration (BBA) degree. The BBA degree requires 128 credits and consists
of the following requirements:

 Writing Skills: WSC 001 (Requires a Grade of C-), WSC 002 (Requires a
Grade of C-), Writing Proficiency Exam, WSC 130

 Foreign Language: applies only to International Business majors to level 4
 Distribution Requirements across the Humanities, Natural

Science/Math/Computer Science, Social Sciences, Cross Cultural, and
Interdisciplinary Studies

What is my class standing?

Class standing (first-year, sophomore, junior or senior) is determined by the number of earned credit hours. Students with fewer than
30 credits are considered first-year students. Those with 30-59 credits earned are classified as sophomores. Those with 60-89 credits
earned are considered juniors, and students with 90 or more credits earned are classified as seniors.

What is a course (W) withdraw?

An official course (W) withdrawal is non-punitive grade initiated by a student when a class is dropped during the published withdrawal
period. The last day to withdraw from an individual course in the Fall takes place on Monday, November 12th. If you select to withdraw
from a course, a grade notation of "W" (withdraw) is recorded on your transcript for that course. There are no exceptions once the
November 12th deadline date expires. Any individual course withdrawal request submitted after the deadline date will require medical
documentation.

What is a repeat course request (form)?

Undergraduate students may repeat a course and request that only the latter of the two grades be counted toward their GPA calculation

How many credits must I take to be a full-time student?

Any undergraduate student registered for 12 or more credits will be considered a full-time student. In order to live in the residence
halls, receive certain types of financial aid and be eligible for inclusion on a parent's health insurance coverage, students must maintain
full-time status.

How many credits does the full-time tuition rate cover?

The full-time tuition rate covers up to 17 credits per term. There is an additional fee of $1,500 per credit hour over 17 credits per term.

What grade point average must I maintain in order to be in good academic standing?

Any student who fails to maintain a 2.00 cumulative average will be placed on academic probation. After two semesters on probation a
student may be subject to dismissal from the University. All students on academic probation are required to meet with an advisor in the
Center for University Advisement to discuss their standing and strategies for improving their grades.

Can I take classes outside of Hofstra?

Once matriculated, current students may not take courses at other educational institutions.

CUA Zarb First-Year Class Socials/Events: Advising Mentorship
Spring 2019 Registration Planning Sessions

All first-year business students receive mentorship from their CUA Zarb advising dean before registering for next semester’s
classes. After this advising mentorship session, your CUA Zarb advising dean will provide you with your Alternate PIN which

is required to register for the Spring 2019 semester. The purpose of these sessions is to provide
you with as much information with regards to building your schedule so you are informed and
prepared for registration on October 28th. An Alternate Pin, which you will need to register, will
be provided to all participants who attend a session. First-Year Registration takes place via the
My Hofstra Portal on October 28, Sunday, at 10 pm.

The CUA-Zarb Advising Team also highly recommends completion of the Pathway to Pride tutorial (in Blackboard) prior to
attending one of the CUA Zarb First-Year Class Socials/Spring 2019 Registration Planning Sessions. This invaluable resource
is a great way to gain an understanding of your degree requirements, as well as plan out your classes.

 Check if your My Hofstra Account has any holds (immunization, financial, transcript, etc.)

 First-year students who wish to receive credit for AP exams, IB exams,

and college courses completed at another college or university should Office of Undergraduate Admission

Remember to utilize CONNECT to stay on top of your academic progress and schedule appointments for tutoring

Once in the system students are able to schedule appointments, view class schedule information, and view mid-

Does Hofstra University offer any tutoring services?
The Undergraduate Tutorial Program runs September 10 through December 10. There is no tutoring when classes
are not in session. The UTP collaborates with various departments on campus and strives to maintain a student-
centered learning environment.
The University Tutorial Program offers free tutoring for all subjects. You can apply for a tutor on Tutor Trac. Visit

Accounting is the language of business. Zarb accounting students become CPAs or management accountants or use the

 Liberal arts and distribution requirements are completed throughout your four years.

 It is preferable to maintain a 16 or 17 credit course load per semester to ensure a timely graduation.

 All students are encouraged to meet with a faculty adviser in the Marketing and International Business Department

to discuss major requirements and opportunities for entry into the various Dual Degree Graduate Programs
