First of all, gives thanks for God’ s love and grace for us. Thanks to God for helping us and gives us a chance to finish this assignment timely. And we would like to say thank you to our lecture Chm Dr Wan Haslinda binti Wan Ahmad as our SSM 1043 lecture, who always teaches us and give much knowledge about the schedule waste e-book. This assignment is the one of schedule wasted operation management that relate with any labtratory jobs. Unfortunatelly, we are realized our assignment maybe did not perfect such the other do. But, we hope that our schedule waste e-book can be useful and also can capable to be preferences f or any questions about schedule waste. In addition, gettng any critics and suggestions are needed to finish our schedule waste e-book. Hopefully, we as a SSM 1043 students, Faculty Science & Mathematic, UPSI can gain a new knowledge from this assignment, where there will be helpful in labtratory . PREFACE

DEFINITION OF SCHEDULED WASTE

WHAT IS SW ?? organic in nature; resistant to degradation by chemical, physical or biological means; toxic to humans, animals, vegetation or aquatic life; bioaccumulative in humans, flora and fauna; and listed on Schedule X (the agreed list of scheduled wastes). A formal definition of " scheduled waste " is: a material or article containing a chemical, or mixture of chemicals, exceeding the threshold concentration and threshold quantity (see the relevant specific scheduled waste management plan), which is:

SCHEDULED WASTE 1 METAL AND METALBEARING WASTES 10 CODES

SCHEDULE WASTE 101: WASTE CONTAINING ARSENIC OR ITS COMPOUND

Arsenic is an unwanted hazardous waste generated from the processing of a variety of ores including those of copper, gold, nickel, lead and zinc. Arsenic in the past was widely used in many agricultural applications as an active ingredient in many herbicides and insecticides. WHAT TYPES OF WASTE IS ARSENIC ?? SW101

SW 02 : WASTE CONTAINING PRINCIPALLY INORGANIC CONSTITUENTS WHICH MAY CONTAIN METALS AND ORGANIC MATERIALS Waste water Treatment sludge Example : SW 204 : Sludges containing one or several metals including chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, lead, cadmium, aluminium, tin, vanadium and beryllium Source : Sludge Dewatering Pressing Process

SW 206 : Spent Inorganic Acid Example: Bouin’sFluid (composed of picric acid, acetic acid and formaldehydein an aqueoussolution) Source: fixation of gastrointestinal tract biopsies

Acetone Acetonitrile Ethanol Formaldehyde Example: Vehicle exhaust automobile exhaust cellulosic feedstocks (crop residues and wood) Source: SW 03 : WASTES CONTAINING PRINCIPALLY ORGANIC CONSTITUENTS WHICH MAY CONTAIN METALS AND INORGANIC MATERIALS SW 322 : Waste of non-halogenated organic solvents

SW 327 : Waste of thermal fluids (heat transfer) such as ethylene glycol Ethylene glycol Example: Disposal of used antifreeze Use of de-icing solutions at airports Source:

SW 04 : WASTES WHICH MAY CONTAIN EITHER INORGANIC OR ORGANIC CONSTITUENTS SOURCE Drug manufacturing Patient and animal excretion Aquafarming Disposal of unused or expired medicines. SW 405 : Waste arising from the preparation and production of pharmaceutical product EXAMPLE Discontinued or unused medication Partially filled vials and syringes Prescriptions Pre-filled syringes and IVs

SW 410 : Rags, plastics, papers or filters contaminated with scheduled wastes Rags Plastics Papers Filters Example :

SW 05 OTHER WASTES Source : Treatment of scheduled wastes Sw 501 Any Residues from treatment or recovery of scheduled wastes Example : Residues

WAYS TO DISPOSE SCHEDULED WASTE

DIBAWAH AKTA KUALITI ALAM SEKELILING 1974 SEMUA PENGHASIL ATAU PENGELUAR SISA PERLU MEMASTIKAN SISA BUANGAN YANG DIHASILKAN DISIMPAN DIJAGA DAN DIHANTAR KE TEMPAT YANG TERSEDIA UNTUK MENGURUSKAN SISA BUANGAN

REMINDER IDENTIFY WASTE recyclacble waste compostable organic waste non hazardous solid waste hazardous chemical waste hazardous biology waste hazardous radioactive waste other regulated waste What type of waste is that?

REMINDER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

Effect if Waste Effect if Waste Dispose Incorrectly Incorrectly

Water Pollution• It also can effect on animal and marine death. • Improper waste disposal directly leads to extinction of many species every day. • The improper management of scheduled wastes lead to water pollution. • Harmful substance which make the water unusable for drinking, cooking and cleaning.

AIR POLLUTION contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere.

Soil Pollution •contamination of soil with anomalous concentrations of toxic substances. •exposure to soil containing high concentrations of benzene increases the risk of contracting leukaemia.
