3. Outline of the tendering process
We plan to benchmark all suppliers against the criteria set out in this document, with the most
value-creating offer most likely to be awarded the business.
Your responses to sections 5 through to 8 will assist in this assessment process.
To this end, please ensure all information you provide is accurate and can be substantiated.

Suppliers will be invited to further discuss the opportunity and understand Halfords requirements

This will take the format of a series of meetings at both Halfords and, where relevant, the

provided to you as our current best indication of what the final specification or requirement will be,
and any changes will be confirmed in the negotiation stage.

4. The product supply opportunity
4.1 Outline Product Definition
Halfords sell a large number of both car head units and speakers. Alongside these ranges we
also sell a large range of audio installation parts (previously termed “audio accessories”). These
parts are both purchased individually by our customers, and also purchased alongside stereos
and speakers and then fitted to our customers’ vehicles by one of our trained fitters.
Rather than looking to replace our current product range with direct replacements, we are taking
a fresh look at all aspects of the range. Please keep this in mind while preparing your response;
while it is still vital that you consider our existing range, this is an opportunity to strengthen our
offer through a completely new approach.
A core requirement of the proposed product range is to give the highest possible car parc
coverage, to ensure that our colleagues always have the right part to fit to a vehicle. However,
due to the high number of parts required this stock will not all be held in our shops, and how this
is managed is an important consideration of the tender.

Working against a backdrop of a blank piece of paper, AAMP has created an industry first
concept that changes the way the customer shops and colleagues engage in the product offering.
The future vision will guide the customer on a simple and engaging journey from the selection of
a radio through installation part selection and on to arranging the installation.
The current product line-up has been reviewed against market relevance, fit for future and overall
suitability for the customer Halfords serve.
The approach has focused on car parc coverage and availability with a target of maximising parts
and installation attachment.

The Customer Audio Information Centre
AAMP understand that customer vehicle application engagement is a key part of the customer
journey. As such, AAMP have an ambition to resurrect a “Customer Reference List” format in
stores giving the customer the right information for the right job for their vehicle and therefore
facilitating a self-serving environment
Halfords would become the “Oracle” for Audio Installation.
AAMP will support an initiative to integrate electronic tablet style CRL’s into the display.
The tablet format would allow for the addition of head unit manufacture information in order to
provide the most up to date data. AAMP will engage closely with these suppliers to make the

4.2 Outline of logistics and stockholding requirements
Due to the diversity of the parts needed, it is not possible to hold every part in our stores and DC.
Within your response please include the following:

4.3 Consumables
As well as the “standard” range of products (outlined as 1, 2 and 3 in section 4.2), we also require
a range of “consumable” parts, for use by our fitters as part of audio fitting, but not to be directly
resold. Appendix D contains details of the products currently required. In your response please
also include any recommendations for additional lines you would recommend we include in this
range.

Furthermore, AAMP will continue to develop and publish the Halfords Installer Tool Kit Handbook
that has been the guide to creating the Store Tool Kit for the past 4 years.

their needs and enhance the range of consumers as deemed necessary.

5. Outline of the Commercial requirements
By taking part in this tender process, you accept and agree to be bound by the Halfords
standard Terms & Conditions of trading. A copy of these is provided with this pack.
In order to understand the basis on which you are quoting and whether you are likely to meet our
requirements as a supplier to Halfords we may need to make further inquiries and / or factory
visits.
Your response should be laid out in the following order taking into consideration the points below:
A) Cost Pricing & Terms.
Please quote cost prices in GBP or US $, based on how product is to be supplied.

possible and re-creating the product line-up to reflect the AAMP and Halfords ambitions.
Within this quote, AAMP have included the following:
Fitting Kits – Taken a fresh look at fitting kits (Fascia, harness & aerial adaptor) to ensure
that this is the go-to selection for the customer by flattening the kit cost price to £10.00 on
any store-stocked or DC stocked line.
Facia Adaptors – Followed a similar common price theme with store-stocked Fascia
Adaptors by reducing any facia over £5.00 down to that level.
All existing pricing that already sits below that level (from £2.00) remain.
Harness Adaptors – Followed a similar common price theme with store-stocked Harness
Adaptors by reducing any Adaptor over £2.00 down to that level.
All existing pricing that already sits below that level (from £1.66) remain.
Speaker Adaptors – Followed a similar common price theme with store-stocked Speaker
Adaptors by reducing any store stock line down to £4.00

D) Product Quality
Providing high quality products to our customers is, of course, very important to us.
Within your response you should include relevant testing certificates where appropriate, as
well as detail on how you ensure consistent quality of your products.
AAMP Response
AAMP Global takes their responsibility towards product quality very seriously and, as such, has a
number of processes in place that undertake quality assurances during the product development
cycle.
During the development process there are assured quality checks that meet all industry
recognised quality standards and are continually checked, batch tested and reviewed for
continuity and specification.
All production facilities in all locations are subject to factory inspection, evaluation and approval
prior to commencing supply and throughout their supply life-span.
Essential to the AAMP quality process is the close engagement with the Halfords Quality
Department to ensure that pre-approval goes smoothly and any issues are responded to,
addressed and resolved in a timely fashion.

We have a high value of stock holding on the current range and exiting this from our business will
incur a significant cost. Please outline the financial support you can provide for the clearance of

AAMP Global proposes to uplift all existing stock from the Halfords business for full credit against
the replacement revised product ranges.
AAMP feel that only a 100% clean exit of the existing stock holding will give the new concept
ranges and displays the maximum opportunity for success.
Planning and execution of the new range / display roll-out is incredibly important to the outcome
and impact in-store.
AAMP are ready to get involved to ensure the stores look & feel how the concepts are intended.

G) Special Order Parts & Returns
To enable our range to cover as much of the car parc as possible, we will require a “special
order” range of parts, as outline in section 4.2. Stock will need to be held either by the supplier or
by a third party, and orders dispatched on a next day basis. Please provide full details of the
logistics provision for special order parts, including, but not limited to:
Warehousing location and set up
End to end order receipt and dispatch process
Due to the complexity of car audio fitting, our fitting colleagues will often have to order additional
parts which end up not being required for that fit. Historically this has caused us a huge problem
with how these surplus parts are returned, both from stores and to our suppliers. Within your
response it is vital that you provide a solution for how this is dealt with, to ensure minimal cost to
Halfords. A solution for this problem is a vital part of this tender.

Fitting is an integral part of Halfords business and a key priority in our strategy for future growth.
Car stereo fitting penetration is currently running at around 40%, with big growth ambitions.
Your proposal should outline how you will help Halfords both maintain and increase fitting
penetration, including proposals on overcoming perceived “difficult fits”. How do you propose
to help share information on fitting across our store estate?

installer
Create Incentives to endorse fitting attachment penetration.
Your proposal should also provide an allowance for the purchase and maintenance of
equipment required to complete audio fitting, as and when required by Halfords.

With fitting being such an integral part of our business, it is vital we have the correct technical
information and support colleagues to carry out our fitting service.
To support our ambition to increase our level of fitting, we are creating a new “Audio Support” role
within Halfords.
This role will provide our colleagues in shops with a single point of contact for all Audio fitting
queries. As part of your proposal please include:
How you will you be able to provide systemic technical support for the Audio Support
colleague to enable them to have the most up to date information?

AAMP Global proposes a schedule of engagement with the new colleague to bring them the
most up-to-date information in the marketplace.
The schedule could include, but not limited to:
An induction period hosted at both the Redditch Support Centre and the AAMP Offices
to have them hit the ground running.

AAMP Global would give maximum priority to this Audio Support Role so as to maximise their
effectiveness. We would include:
Induction sessions would include some potential “manning” of the AAMP Halfords
dedicated help line to get a handle on call types
Direct access to key AAMP Technical personnel to resolve any issues needing
attention.
As part of the commercial arrangement you will be required to partly fund this role. Funding of
£20,000 p.a. will need to be provided.

Outline of Quality, Environmental and Social requirements
We are committed to sourcing quality merchandise and developing collaborative relationships
with suppliers. We have a dedicated facility for merchandise development and evaluation, all
products and packaging sold by Halfords are assessed against relevant specifications, standards
and legislative requirements. There is a formal sample submission procedure which accompanies
our merchandise development process that applies to the product and packaging, which will be
adopted should your company be awarded business as a result the tender process. A visit or
audit of premises associated with our suppliers and their subcontractors will be undertaken by
representatives from Halfords’ Quality & Product Development function.
It is Halfords policy to promote shared business objectives with those in our global supply
network so as to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and also encourage the
consideration of social issues in business. The importance of these issues is highlighted by their
inclusion within our Supplier Terms and Conditions Manual.
In addition to national legislation and pollution prevention good practice, the successful supplier
should also be examining waste minimisation and energy efficiency measures. These initiatives
are likely to have a beneficial impact on costs.
A Quality Questionnaire is provided in Appendix A.
All prospective suppliers must complete and return this questionnaire should they wish to
participate in the tender process.
Please use this document to provide an introduction to your company; outlining your key areas of
business, details of your major customers and any other information that you believe may support
your case as a potential supplier to Halfords. Note: Current suppliers to Halfords who have not
completed this questionnaire within the last six months must provide an updated version. Please
also note that if you are an agent or intermediary, we require the parts of the Quality
Questionnaire that refer to the manufacturing processes to be completed either by or on behalf of
the manufacturing company.
I have also included a copy of our company ‘Code of Conduct’ and a blank factory audit form so
that you see how we assess supplier’s factories.
