INTRODUCTION The Manpower Department (formerly known as the People's Manpower
Department) acts as a department responsible for producing skilled labor to
meet the needs and demands of semi-skilled and skilled labor for the
country's industrial sector. The Taman Meru Industrial Area has been chosen
as the location for the construction of a skills institute that will fuel the
economic vitality of the state of Perak.

Ipoh Industrial Training Institute is located in Taman Meru Industrial Area
which is about 12 km from Ipoh City Centre. ILP Ipoh was completed in 1989
and was one of the earliest ILPs in Malaysia after ILPs Kuala Lumpur, Perai,
Kuala Terengganu, Pasir Gudang, Labuan, Kuantan, Kota Bahru and Jitra
under the administration of the People's Energy Department at that time.

In 1990, ILP Ipoh which is better known as ITI Ipohby the surrounding community has started operating with a strength
of 25 staff. The first intake of students is a total of 80 people with an offer of 5 courses which are Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Courses, Electrical Technology, General Mechanics, Metal Fabrication and Arc and Gas Welding. The
Inauguration Ceremony of ILP Ipoh was completed by the Raja Muda of Perak, namely Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan
Shah on 3 July 1992.

This institute is a symbol of pride for workers, students and the surrounding community in raising awareness of
the importance of knowledge and skills. With a staff strength of 142 people, ILP Ipoh is able to train up to 950
potential national skilled workers at any one time through offering 12 full-time courses and over 800 part-time
participants throughout the year to meet the country's industrial sector.
