Chairman’s message Team,
By: Philip Cardaci We are now well in to the 2020 financial year and
spring is upon us. Spring is a time of new beginnings, and as our business continues to
evolve, it is important to remember what our priorities need to be.
I would like to thank you personally for your continued endeavours in creating a safer
workplace for you and your colleagues, but sometimes incidents unfold which make us
reassess ourselves. Sadly on Wednesday the 4th of September I received a call that none
of us want or expect – one of our colleagues had lost their life at work. Alan Edwards, a
heavy haulage driver for Centurion, passed away in an accident at the Port of Brisbane. My
number one priority for all employees is to come to work, do your job well, and go home safely. Unfortunately
this was not the case for Alan on that Wednesday.
We know that accidents happen, but there is always a better way and we need to keep challenging ourselves.
Safety is our number one priority, particularly as we operate in very dangerous industries. My thoughts go
out to the team closest to Alan, and of course, most importantly Alan’s family.
Our group has been busy over the last few months and this has led to a number of investments.
In late August, BIRCHMEAD (the property arm of the CFC Group) formed a consortium with Linc Property
and the Fini Group to purchase Midland Brick, an iconic West Australian brickmaker. This will unlock
future commercial opportunities for us including the business assets and a substantial land portfolio.
CFC made a significant investment in a Victorian business based in Wangaratta, Dunstons. Murray Dunston’s
grandfather and father Ray, commenced business over 70 years ago and lead the way in large horizontal
drilling on projects all around Australia. We look forward to CAPE and DUNSTONS working together on
many projects across Australia. We also welcome Murray and his team at Dunstons into the CFC family.
In late August CENTURION acquired the Regal General Transport from K&S Corporation, further
strengthening our business in the commodity rich communities of Western Australia. Welcome on board
to all the new staff of Regal. Also CENTURION announced the commencement of CENTURION UPSTREAM
SOLUTIONS which will concentrate on custom solutions for the oil and gas industry.
Our distribution business CEA and Redstar have also gone through a rebranding. As of the 1st of September,
the Redstar business is now known as CEA Air and Power. In addition the distribution business will adopt a
new logo for each of the units, CEA JCB, CEA DYNAPAC and CEA Air and Power.
In September every year we welcome a new wave of trainees into the Frank Cardaci Traineeship Program.
This year we welcome 11 trainees and we are very pleased for them to be part of the Group and to give
them an opportunity to learn and contribute. Congratulations also go to our 2018 trainees who will soon
be graduating.
I am delighted to see many great wins in the market on the back of people developing a strong understanding
of their customer’s needs, living the RIPPA values and working within and across the businesses to provide
a solution, further reinforcing the value of each of our CFC brands. I am sure our customers value what
you are doing as much as I do.
In closing I would like all of us to just take a silent minute in each of the businesses to remember Alan
Edwards and just how important it is to go home to our families.
Vale Alan and stay Safe to all,
Philip.
