Our Q4 and full year results function last week was a fitting opportunity to celebrate. Not only did we deliver a strong financial performance, but the launch of Typek’s lively new multi-media brand campaign added some spunk to the event.

Make a smart decision... declare gifts
With the festive season approaching, customers and suppliers are keen to say ‘thank you’ with gifts and invitations. But remember, our Sappi Code of Ethics require that you declare it.
We have an online declaration system, ‘Keeping the Code’, which can be found on the Sappi Intranet by following the path: Links > Regional Systems Links > Sappi Declaration System.
Be aware that there is a limit on the value of gifts that may be accepted. Also, under no circumstances should cash (or cash equivalents such as gift vouchers) be taken.
Make sure you follow the rules
If you are uncertain as to whether to accept a gift or invitation, speak to your line manager, head of department or someone in Internal Audit.
Or check out our online declaration policy. If you don’t have Intranet access, ask HR for a manual declaration form.
Donate tools and help our
trainees to succeed
The primary focus of our Sappi Skills Centres is to provide local unemployed youth with hand skills that will enable them to create their own businesses. But the finances to buy the basic tools and equipment they need to get going, is often their main constraint.
To resolve this problem, we are calling
on Sappi employees to donate any handyman tools in good condition, which can be used to perform the following types of work: electrical, painting, plumbing/tiling and construction.
We will place these donations in our ‘Tool Shed’ in the form of a little shop on the Sappi Skills Centre sites at Saiccor and Ngodwana Mills. Trainees who have good and viable business plans will have the chance to select tools they need from this shed at the end of their nine-week Basic Handyman programme.
Bring in your donations before the end of the week
• Let Melanie Jacobs or Fumani Nkuna know if you have tools to donate.
• Melanie is driving to Saiccor Mill on 02 December and will take any donations down with her.
Important to remember:
• Gifts must be declared within seven days of receipt
• Management reserves the right to decline your request to accept the gift
• Declined gifts must be returned.

No-one wants to get hurt on purpose or worse, lose a limb. This makes Sappi’s third Life Saving Rule so important. This rule applies to:
• Rotating equipment
• Nip and pinch points
• Moving machinery
• Interlocks
• Proximity switches
• E-stops
• Interfering with safety devices.
Apply the rule by:
} Understanding the hazards and how to adequately address them.
} Creating safe work procedures to follow where guards must be
removed to do the work.
} Ensuring that safety protective devices are working correctly.
} Ensuring nip points are guarded.
} Getting authorisation before overriding or disabling a safety
protective device.
} Avoiding any work that exposes you or your colleagues to
unguarded points.

Let’s have a look at where this rule can be applied: the use of safety belts, carting passengers, vehicle checks, regular maintenance operator license and the use of cell phones while driving.
Remember:
Operate any vehicle or equipment only if you:
• Are licensed and found competent to do so
• Perform all required inspections and check if the equipment is
safe to operate
• Adhere to site traffic rules and speed limits
• Take appropriate steps to ensure the equipment cannot be
operated by unauthorised people
• Ensure people and unsecured material and equipment are
separated
• Transport passengers in suitable and approved vehicles.
Never:
} Overload a vehicle or equipment
} Use a handheld phone when driving.

1 Operate vehicles and mobile equipment in accordance with safety requirements.

Annual Charity Drive
Help us to spread some festive cheer by joining the Rosebank Head Office Employee charity drive.

From 15 November
to 14 December 2018 we will be collecting old and new blankets, non- perishable food items and pet food for various charities. Drop off points will be provided on each floor.
Thank you that we can count on your support!
Help vulnerable children, families in need and shelter animals by donating:
• New or old blankets
• Non-perishable food items and
• Dog, cat and bird food
Collection starts 15 November and ends 14 December 2018.
Donations can be dropped in the dedicated containers on each floor.

At the 2018 event we made a colourful splash with our vibrant running shirts and team spirit.
