Up close with...
Samantha Johns, Manager Corporate Digital Communication
I am happiest when... I’m in creative mode. Oil painting with my ngers or charcoal sketching are two messy favourites of mine.
When I feel stressed out... I like to remind myself that in the greater scheme of things, my stressors are relatively insigni cant and probably won’t matter ve years from now.
My most treasured possession is... my time.
5 I can’t live without... music, curry, love and a good night’s sleep.
4 I am inspired by... the strength and resilience of the human spirit in times of suffering. On a lighter note, art also inspires me.
6 My favourite read is... The book of Joy. Lasting Happiness in a changing world by the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Carlton Abrams. Seconded by ‘Oh the places you’ll go’ by Dr Seuss.
7 I love watching... historical drama movies about human tragedy, genocide, struggle or triumph. They make me cry, laugh and feel deeply.
8 My favourite holiday spot is... well, none in particular. Sur ng, hiking or sleeping under the stars is a plus. And the food is important, always.
9 In my spare time... I like to create, still my mind or nurture relationships.
10
My rst job was... as a promoter at the Durban Indaba, welcoming foreign visitors to the city at the airport. My rst (serious) job was at Sappi in 2007, where I worked as an assistant SAP planner at Saiccor Mill.
11
One thing colleagues don’t know about me is... I am studying Psychology for self-enrichment and I analyse... everyone. Just kidding. That would be tiring.
12
I love working at Sappi because... I’ve been offered great growth opportunities to work in different areas of the business and in various roles. Ten years later, I can say without a doubt there has never been a dull moment. Sappi has also been a part of my life since I was in my mother’s womb. Cumulatively my family have given over 100 years of service to this company!

Joburg to enforce recycling
The City of Joburg and waste management company Pikitup have launched a mandatory separation-at- source programme to contribute to increasing recycling rates in South Africa.
Only 10% of the country’s waste is currently being recycled, and land ll space is expected to run out in six years’ time if more recyclables are not separated before disposal.
When and how?
The programme, which was implemented on 01 July will be rolled out over the next three years and will require households to set aside post-consumer dry recyclable waste and household generated garden waste for the purpose of reusing, recycling, composting or further processing of these materials.
Targeted recycling, or kerbside recycling, has been rolled out in certain suburbs where the city issues residents with a
clear or blue recycling bag. These will be collected on the kerbside by the city’s service providers on a weekly basis. Suitable materials to be separated for recycling include paper, cardboard, milk and juice cartons, paper cups, glass, cans, plastic bottles and other plastic recyclable products. These have to be rinsed out so as to avoid contamination.
A network of drop-off facilities are available across the city so that communities can drop off their dry recyclables or their garden waste for composting.
An added incentive
Rather than enforcing the programme on households, Pikitup will start incentivising households to separate their dry recyclables and will eventually offer rebates to the best-performing wards.
04 July 2018
Areas where this will rst be implemented include Norwood, Lenasia and Midrand. Soon to follow will be Roodepoort, Waterval,
Randburg, Southdale, Marlboro and
Avalon. A full list of wards that will rst
be targeted is available on PRASA’s website, www.recyclepaper.co.za.

Cyber security
04 July 2018
Make sure to be extra careful whenever you share these details about yourself:
• Your ID or passport number
• Banking information, such as
credit card numbers, bank
account and routing numbers
• Medical information such as your
blood type and medical history
• Date of birth
• Phone number
• eMail address
• Physical address
• Gender, race and ethnicity
• Photos and voice recordings
• Marital status
• Religious beliefs and political
opinions
• Employment history and salary
information.
How to keep your
identity safe
Identity theft is when cyber criminals gain access to your sensitive personal information and use it to take over everything – your house, car, bank accounts and even your name. Cyber criminals can use your name to take out bank loans and obtain credit, leaving you to pay the consequences.
These precautions could help you to keep your identity safe:
Never use your corporate eMail address for personal use. This means you shouldn’t create online pro les using it.
When you’re doing online shopping, to ensure that hackers can’t obtain your credit details, check for the lock icon on the site address.
Be sure to contact IT if any of this starts happening to your computer:
• Your PC starts opening and closing applications without you clicking • Your PC is suddenly extremely slow to respond to all applications.
Before opening an eMail make sure that it’s from a trusted source. Otherwise, your computer could be breached, and all your data could be leaked.
When creating a password, make sure that it is at least nine characters long and uses uppercase, lowercase and symbols; as this will take much longer for a hacker to hack.

Identity thieves take over everything. It can happen to you if you share even the most innocent photo or voice note online or in a chat room. Sometimes it’s not even your fault. Your bank or favourite online store could be breached, leaking your details to the world.
Luckily it’s not always doom and gloom. There are things you could do to stop
identity theft. Find out more by visiting sappicybersecurity.com and take back control of your life.
