BIRTHDAY!

Up close with...
31 October 2018
Stafford Augustine, General Manager: RHO Procurement, Sappi Southern Africa Sales
Stafford with his two sons on the golf course.
1. I’m happiest when... I spend quality time with my wife and two boys. Although it doesn’t happen that often now that my boys are more grown up, we can spend endless hours talking around the kitchen table. I cherish those moments.
2. When I feel stressed out I... catch up with some friends or my boys on the golf course. The golf might not be that great, but the conversation and socialising eases the stressors in my life. At work I become stressed when I feel uncertain, and in those instances I tend to deal with any related issue immediately in order to remove the uncertainty.
3. My most treasured possession is... a custom-made ring my wife bought me as a birthday gift. The ring was designed by my wife, and her jeweller uncle made it. I always get great comments from random people when they notice the ring.
4. I laughed out loud the day... I got to my car at the Gautrain station and realised I left my car keys in the of ce. I dutifully had to get back on the train to get my keys! Luckily the train ride is quite short.
5. I’m inspired by... people who are not materialistic, but dedicate their lives to serve others. One such character is Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, the founder of Gift of the Givers, who left a lucrative medical practice and dedicated his life to be in service of those in need. His story is inspiring.
6. I can’t live without... praying. I have some quiet time in the mornings when I wake up and before retiring at night. It helps to restore some balance.
7. My favourite read is... The Game of Life and How to Play it by Florence Shovel Shinn. The book is about
the laws of life and how to be in harmony with them in order to excel at life.
8. I love watching (favourite movie or book)... The History Channel 186 on DSTV, because it always features a myriad of very interesting topics on real-life occurrences and mysteries. My favourite feature is Ancient Aliens.
9. My favourite holiday spot is... George on the Garden Route of the Western Cape. My family has a holiday house right on the coast. It’s nice and quiet out there and the area is fairly safe – one can
still take long strolls at night. There are some good golf courses in George and ne eating places in the nearby Wilderness area. George also boasts a quaint airport, which makes travelling there a breeze.
10. In my spare time I... like to spend time in nature hiking and shing now and again. I also hunt at least a few times a year, but the older I become the less attractive I nd hunting.
11. My rst job was... to assist my father in his steel manufacturing business as a handyman. I helped out in admin as well. My salary was merely a stipend, but the life lessons were invaluable.
12. What people at Sappi don’t know about me is... that I can sing a little bit and used to be a song leader at church. Some people believe my wife fell for my singing at church when she agreed to court with me – I doubt it because my singing is not that great.
13. I love working at Sappi because... it is a progressive company that is performance driven and offers many opportunities for career growth, both locally and internationally. Furthermore, the people at Sappi become like family and family stick together.
