Trends

Video consumers around the world are shifting their viewing habits from the traditional TV in
the living room to multiple devices including PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We see
the following trends emerging:

 Larger smartphone screens and tablets are fueling consumer demand for online video
viewing anywhere at any time on any device

 Many consumers have several video capable devices, which means that content
providers must provide multiple file outputs to match diverse device characteristics
throughout the world

 Traditional TV gives consumers a quality viewing experience with no delays and
consumers now expect a similar high quality experience with online video, which
requires that the video be streamed fast enough to avoid buffering delays

 Adaptive bitrate streaming technology, such as HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), ensures the
best possible user experience for any given bandwidth and screen resolution

 Cloud services are lowering the barriers of entry, leading to many new firms of all sizes
to enter the over-the-top (OTT) video services market

Challenges

Video consumers want a high quality TV Everywhere experience. Video Service Providers are
facing the following challenges:

 Video Service Providers must provide multi-screen (adaptive bitrate) outputs for
consumer devices with differing screen sizes and varying streaming speeds

 An unauthorized copy of a video being played on another portal is lost revenue, and
hence video content must be secured to protect the revenue

 Video Service Providers are competing with traditional TV cable for consumers’ dollars;

Cloud Transcoding: SwiftCoder is a cloud based transcoding solution that has a simplistic
intuitive interface to set up ingestion, transcoding, protection, and delivery of content. Users
can set up and save custom HLS presets in addition to system presets to streamline
transcoding job creation. Video quality can also be improved with SwiftCoder editing features.
Multiple soundtracks and subtitles can also be added to each video as well as closed caption
if required. SwiftCoder users save CAPEX and OPEX by transcoding in the cloud with pay as
you go service, and not having to own and operate dedicated assets.

Cloud DRM: Verimatrix VCAS cloud based content and revenue security is integrated into the
SwiftCoder simplistic intuitive interface. The joint solution enables a next-generation, high
quality TV experience by enhancing SwiftCoder with proven digital TV content and revenue
security from Verimatrix based on its award winning VCAS for Internet TV. SwiftCoder users

save additional CAPEX and OPEX by having content security completed in the cloud with pay
as you go service, and not having to own and operate dedicated assets.

Delivery: SwiftCoder users will achieve further CAPEX savings with the added cloud based
SwiftServe delivery network at no incremental cost. The SwiftServe delivery network is
integrated into the simplistic intuitive SwiftCoder interface and will speed delivery of all
completed transcoded video content to its final destination. SwiftCoder users will benefit
from the SwiftServe CDN global network that has PoPs all over the world to speed delivery
anywhere. Network service providers can join the SwiftServe CDN Federation that links
private networks using SwiftServe to create a global CDN network.

Scalability: Transcoding demand rises and falls based on many factors. A video service
provider with transcoding needs must have the flexibility to meet varying demand levels.
SwiftCoder cloud based transcoding scales with our customers’ demand by charging per job
and being able to handle any demand level dynamically.

CAPEX and OPEX Savings: Owning dedicated transcoding and content security assets adds
to CAPEX and OPEX and can make scalability expensive and time consuming. Video service
providers must purchase enough equipment and hire enough staff to handle the forecasted
demand peaks. When transcode demand is not at peak level, both CAPEX and OPEX risk being
wasted. Also, it will be very difficult to handle additional demand if it suddenly spikes past
onsite equipment and labor capacity.

SwiftCoder saves CAPEX and OPEX by adapting dynamically to a firm’s transcoding and DRM
capacity needs. Services are billed per job and number of users individually; firms only pay for
