WE ASKED THE CLUB CHAIRMAN'S Q: Can you tell us about club activities? A: We have rehearsals 2 days a week, our main goal is to prepare a " play " for the end of the second semestre. Within a whole school year, most of the time we focus on doing our best on clearing the flaws and trying to perform a flawless play at the end of the year. In addition, if there ' s a play performing in town which caught our attention, we always try to attend and watch the play as a team. Theatre club is one of the most active clubs at BAL. Every year, they stage at least a play. Our teachers of literature, Mrs. DEMIR and Mr. GUZELKAN are in charge of the club. Also Mr. SOYER is the educator of the club. They put so many effort in this club. We are thankful to them. TThheeaattrree CClluubb -Interview PartQ:How many plays do you stage throughout a year? A:As I mentioned, our objective is to perform a single play flawlessly at the end of the year. But besides that, there are always side projects that we work on in the mean time.
Q:As the co-director, do you find the team and the plays which have been performed sufficient? Can it be improved? A: As the co-director of the club, I find our cast very enthusiastic and curious about theatre. Each year, there are newcomers to the team. It is pleasing to see that there is this much of interest towards our club. As for the second question, that depends on what you compare our club to. We must not forget that we are a high school community and I can easily say that we are one of the best among our equivalents. TThheeaattrree CClluubb Q:For next year, what kind of activities would be in the schedule? A: Besides how much I would like to, I won 't be a part of the team next year. So, that will probably be a surprise, even to me because it' s hard to foresee the opportunities which our community will come across in the future. I wish them good luck in advance. Q:As the final question, what does the club aim? A:Our most important goal is definitely having fun and while having fun, preparing a play that makes every one of our cast satisfied when it is performed. Other than that, our community also gives its performers the chance to have stage experience and learn lots of things about art and theatre along the way. Thanks to Hakan UN for his precious answers.
DDeebbaattee CClluubb Debate club is also one of the most active clubs at BAL. They debate almost every week, they attend national tournaments. Our teacher of literature Mrs. DEMIR and our teacher of religion Mrs. DALFIDAN are in charge of the club. Q: Can you explain what debate is? A: Debate is a discussion between sides with different views. There are 2 wings called Government and Opposite which have 4 teams as opening and ending. Also, there are types of debate. We maket he English Parliamentary debate in our school. This is a small transcription of the English Parliamentary system. Sometimes our topics can be general things like proposed laws that we can discuss in parliament, but sometimes we discuss intangible things. Its difference from typical debating is ‘time’ . We give them topics, 15 minutes before and we want them to be ready before debatement.
DDeebbaattee CClluubb Q: Do you find club activities enough, can they be improved? What will you expect from next year? A: Actually our club is active in itself, we spend quality time when we’re debating but in the advancing years there could be an official debate tournament at our school. Thanks to Aslı YILDIRIM for her precious answers. Q: What’s debate’s personal benefits? A: It is very beneficial for person who wants to improve him/herself about self expression. It also improves her/his knowledge. Q: Can you tell us about club activities? A: In Bursa, there is no developed debate culture but even so we try to debate between ourselves almost every week. We try to attend online national tournaments . Also, we make friendly matches with other schools.
PPhhiilloossoopphhyy CClluubb Philosophy club, also known as Balftu, is one of BAL' s most productive clubs. Philosophy Coffee, Irony magazine are just its some of the activities. Q: Can you tell us about ‘Philosophy Coffee’? A: Philosophy coffee was an event that existed in the past but was held once or twice a year. I thought this event has potential and we started to meet once a week under the name of the philosophy coffee and have philosophical chats. Frankly, this the sole activity I want to leave as a legacy to this club. Although our teachers are sometimes included, Philosophy Coffee is a student activity and freedom of thought is essential. Q:Which activities are there in the club, except Philosophy Coffee? A: Our greatest virtue is our magazine. The magazine called Irony, which we publish every year, reflects the very interesting thoughts of potential philosophers. It is a magazine far beyond being categorized as a student magazine. Apart from that we have a team which organises the designs on the school boards. We are grateful to them for their efforts. We also have an open air cinema plan for the second term if it takes place it will be an event that you will have a lot of fun. Stay tuned. ♣"Philosophy is a never-ending road where the hope of finding truth serves as fuel. " Q:What does the club aim? A:The aim of the philosophy club is to gather people who can think in a qualified way but often do not have an environment to express and discuss these thoughts, and to provide an environment for them to develop each other in an intellectual way.
PPhhiilloossoopphhyy CClluubb Q: Which teacher is leading your club activities? Fevzi Barış Akpınar. He is a valuable teacher who never interferes with me or the club directly and allows us to be ourselves, but always keeps us alive with his motivational speeches and compliments to the work we do. Besides Yasemin Bayıryaka is a very valuable teacher whose emotional support is always with us. And she is the official teacher of the club. Q: As a club chairman, how do you find philosophy discusses that you did? A:I can’t say every discussion we had was healthy but there were a lot of discussions that I really enjoyed and felt that this is what philosophy is. Q: Do you find club activities enough, can they be improved? What will you expect from next term or year? A: To be honest nothing is ever enough for me and I think a president should be in this attitude of mind. If you don 't progress, if you don 't add anything new, I think you ' re standing still. We are doing great activities right now but i believe that more can be done. We have an open air cinema plan for the second term, plus we have a goal to bring philosophy coffee out of school and liberate the time and space. And who knows we may come with any surprise. I hope the club members and presidents after us will know the value of the club they are in and carry it much further than us. Balftu is not a community about members or presidents anyway, but Balftu is the reflection of “Philosophy ” at Bursa Anatolian High School. Thanks to Ece Naz POLAT for her precious answers.
Social leadership club is one of the newest clubs at our school. Our school has been selected for this club to be tested. Q: What does the club aim? A:Club’s goal is to learn how to become a social leader and understand the duties of one. The club believes leaders should be aware of the problems of this century , to value of the human rights and be educated in his/her field. SSOOCCiiAALL LLEEAADDEERRSSHHiiPP CCLLUUBB Q:What activites are being held at the club right now and what are your plans for the second term? A:Because of club being so new we couldn’t organize many activities but we planted trees as a civic duty. And we have plans to take online lessons next term. Q.Who is the teacher of the club? A:Yasemin Bayıryaka the philosophy teacher is. She works hard for the activities and everything. Thanks to Ece Naz POLAT and Begüm GOK for their precious answers.

A: Basically, improve students ' English and make them active. Q: Who is the responsible teacher of the club? A: Pınar ÜNAL AKPINAR is the official teacher. Q: Do you find club activities enough, can they be improved? What will you expect from next term or year? A: It only depends on students ' participation and desire. The more ideas, the more fun it makes. eeTTwwiinnnniinngg && EEnngglliisshh CClluubb
Q: Can you tell us about club activities? A: At the beginning, we choose the tasks we wanted. For example I was a mentor student for Romanian guests and I presented my part and introduced our school. Volunteer students also had web2 tool course online and they learned eTwinning. Every volunteer student who wanted to join eTwinning project, became a project member. At my eTwinning project we organized activities for introduction. We mixed the groups in every 30 minutes and introduce students and teachers. We gathered on Zoom often. If your duty is writing a script, then you need to have more frequent meetings. But in general, we also had meetings 1-2 times in a month. We played games on Kahoot. Our teachers are very competent at that point. They gave us responsibilities and they wanted us to fulfill. Because they wanted to make it " our project" . But of course they checked our writings. I also want to mention we were the ones who gave lectures instead of teachers but they prepared us for it. We prepared presentations and presented them. Sometimes we needed to prepare videos. Of course, there were no photos of the students in any part of project. Privacy is important for us. Last year, we did a podcast and digital book. This year, we hosted our guests from Romania, worked on Karaoke Competition. It was fun. BALMUN is basically a club that prepares students to MUN conferences and organizes training conferences. Our English teacher Mrs. GEVREK is the founder of the club. She helps us with every problem in club and shares her experiences. We are so grateful to have her as our club teacher. Q: First of all what is MUN? Can you give some information about those conferences? A: Model United Nations(also known as MUN) is educational simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. These simulations have exactly the same rules as UN conferences. MM..UU..NN CCLLUUBB Q: What are your club activities? A: These conferences have a lot of complicated rules so we have been organizing so many trainings to teach how to do MUN’s to students and try to attend as many conferences as possible. Also we organized a conference a few years ago and the second one is on its way.Besides, the first event of this academic year was United Nations Day Celebration. It was celebrated by BALMUN Club with the participation of Romanian students, who are one of the Erasmus Project partners on 24th October in our school.
MM..UU..NN CCLLUUBB Q: Can you give some examples? Which conferences did you attend so far? A: We attended so many conferences there is no way to remember all of them. The last ones were BoğaziçiMUN'23, BAUMUN’23 in Istanbul and ASELMUN'23 in Ankara. Besides in 2021 we attended a conference called ironically BALMUN at Germany. It was unforgettable. Q:Why should we attend these conferences? A: These conferences give chance to the students to develop the ability to recognize the world agenda and find solutions to various global problems, allowing them to use English in daily life. Also, these conferences help you to be social. That is the most important thing that the students gain from these conferences. Besides these, the students can improve themselves in many ways at MUN. MUN can help to improve your English level, selfconfidence, ability to speak in public and your other social skills by attending to MUN conferences. Esma Temel
