1 © Penerbitan Pelangi Sdn. Bhd. Vocabulary List Introduction: How to Improve Your Vocabulary Read a lot Use a dictionary and thesaurus Practise the new vocabulary Play word games Read newspapers, magazines and storybooks to help you see how words are used in different situations. Refer to a dictionary to learn the meaning of new words, how they are pronounced and how to use them in a sentence. Check a thesaurus for a list of words similar in meaning (synonyms) with the new word. Sometimes, you can find a better word from the list of synonyms to use when writing an essay. Playing popular word games such as Scrabble and Boggle or doing crossword puzzles with family and friends is a fun way to expand your vocabulary. Write down the new words you learn each time you play and look at them often to remember their spelling. Don’t just memorise the spelling of the new words. Make sure you use them in your conversations or in your writing.
