Visiting Cairo
My family and I visited Egypt last month. We spent one week there. We started our tour
in Cairo. We were there in summer. The weather was very hot so we started sightseeing at
8 a.m. every day.
On our first day in Cairo, our guide took us to see the pyramids. I felt so tiny standing near
to the ancient structures. There were only three large pyramids left that make up the Seven
Wonders of the Ancient World. We saw smaller pyramids too. Our guide informed us that they
were built for the Egyptian queens.
Then, we visited the Great Sphinx of Giza. It was huge. According to our guide, it is one

of the oldest and largest statues in the world. The statue is a mythological creature. It has a

body of a lion and the head of a man. I had to tilt my head all the way back to see its face. I
noticed that its nose was missing.
After that, we went to Saqqara to see the oldest pyramid in Egypt. It is 200 years older
than the Great Pyramid of Giza. We explored the ruins of other pyramids too. Soon, it was
noon. It was very hot so we returned to our hotel.
The following day, we didn’t start very early. After breakfast, our guide took us to the
Egyptian Museum. Our guide told us that the museum has more than 120,000 ancient objects.
Every object was beautiful but I was eager to see the treasures of King Tut’s tomb. We spent
four hours in the museum. I had an amazing time.
The next morning, we travelled to our next destination, Luxor.

Subject : Invitation to a park
Hello Wei Hoon,
The Taman Imbi Resident’s Association is having a community gathering at the Taman Imbi
park on New Year’s Eve. All residents are welcome. The event starts at 6 p.m. and ends after the
fireworks display.
My family and I will go there around 7 p.m. There’ll be a few food and drink stalls. My mother
plans to make some sandwiches and mini pies. If we run out of food, we can buy some food from
the stalls. We’ll bring a large mat so we can sit on the grass.
There’ll be a screening of two movies too. The first movie starts at 7.30 p.m.. We can watch
them while we wait for midnight. Then, we’ll sit back and enjoy the fireworks display. I think it’ll
be a fun outing and a great way to greet the new year.
Are you and your family planning to attend the gathering too? Would you like to join us? Let
me know what you think.
