Read the text below and complete the following table with no more than three words and/ or a number from the text for each answer. My Pet A pet is a blessing that comes only to the fortunate. Since I was a child, I have been lucky enough to own numerous pets. One of them is Mingi, my cat. Its colours are grey and white. Mingi is 3 years old and has been with me ever since she was born. Mingi has a glossy coat in addition to short hair. It is a female, and her favourite foods are chicken and milk. Because it likes tuna so much, I occasionally treat it to seafood. Mingi is also a very loving pet that is always by my side. Unfortunately, my mother forbade me since she would have to take care of the pet herself in the end. During summer, she used to leave a basin of fresh water in our garden to make sure that no animals or birds went without water. But throughout the season, many sparrows and pigeons visit my garden in search of water. One fine day, a cat stopped by to get some water. After that, it began to visit often and gave birth to kittens in our garden. Every day, my mother fed them and gave them some milk. Except for a small kitten, all of them were gone one day. I got near to it and began to feed it daily. I made the decision to keep it as a pet since the mother never showed up. I was able to keep Mingi after obtaining my mother’s approval and making a commitment to take care of it. I have known Mingi throughout my life ever since. It was tiny at first, but it has now grown to be a large, gorgeous cat. Among the easiest pets to keep clean and little maintenance are cats. Mingi takes care of itself rather well; I rarely must worry about it being dirty. Every month, I have a bathing session with my mother. To ensure Mingi’s hygiene and that no dead hair is left behind, we also comb her coat twice a week. (Adapted from: https://www.toppr.com/guides/essays/my-pet-essay/)

According to a survey, 95% of secondary and high school students own at least one smartphone, and the majority of them use them for academic purposes. They can access practical tools online that can help them excel in their studies. For example, they can locate a subject-matter specialist who can help create the greatest homework in any STEM field. On the one hand, educators continue to disagree about whether or not cell phones belong in the classroom. They have been weighing the benefits and drawbacks of smartphones to see if they are promoting or impeding education. The resources available to learn these days are many and varied. The internet is among the most convenient and useful resources. The days when kids looked up to their parents, teachers and books to broaden their knowledge base are long gone. Instead of flipping through entire books to find the information they need, kids can amuse themselves while learning new things with their cell phones. Additionally, students have instant access to any book or instructional website, day or night. In addition, students could also take pictures of the instructor’s notes and record class lectures using their iPhones. Not to forget, Furthermore, they are also able to communicate with each other through cloud-based system applications. It is asserted, however, to offer more benefits than drawbacks. With cell phones, individuals may instantly contact emergency services or their loved ones in case of an emergency, whether at home, school or on the streets. Numerous problems, including shootings, haunt today’s schools, and no incident ever tells kids that these things just happen. In this scenario, a parent can use a smartphone to contact their kids at any time—even while they’re at school. It does benefit both parties, doesn’t it? Students can now utilise the lab to conduct research without having to wait for their computer class. They may now use their smartphones to access the internet from any place and check out stuff. In this way, education happens both within and outside of the classroom. They can also access libraries using a smartphone. Therefore, they may stop looking for books in actual libraries, as they just need to type in their desired book, and it will quickly appear in front of them. Students can also use websites to find resources for their study. For instance, the online case studies. Additionally, we now have access to editing apps like Grammarly, which help students write better essays and even allow them to make reports on their cell phones. These apps also have mobile versions. Social media organisations also give students the opportunity to interact with other academics. They can converse and gain knowledge from one other’s experiences in this way. (Adapted from: https://macsources.com/benefits-of-smartphones-for-students/)

Choose from the sentences (A – H) to fit each gap (35 – 40). Tomato Rice Tomato rice is prepared with aromatic spices and a tomato-based sauce. It cooks quickly and easily in a rice cooker, multicooker or on the stove. (35) Remarkably, tomato rice can be consumed as an appetiser or as a main course. Here, I’m sharing the methods on how to make it. Rinse the rice in multiple changes of water until it flows clean first. (36) Place the cardamom, cloves and star anise inside the spice bag. Since some children find it unpleasant to bite into cloves or cardamom, this is optional. To make things easier, you may place them inside the spice bag. Pressing sauté or cook function button is the next stage. Add coconut oil or ghee after it’s heated. (37) For about three minutes, sauté the onion and garlic until aromatic. Prior to incorporating the tomato paste, pandan leaves, cinnamon stick and spice bag, when the chicken pieces are almost opaque, add them and sauté. (38) Add the evaporated milk and water. Then, add the seasonings and rice grains and toss to mix. Ensure that the rice is completely immersed in the liquid. Put the lid back on and choose “sealing” on the pressure release valve. Press “pressure cooker” and make sure it’s on “high pressure”. After two minutes, set the timer and do a natural release. (39) The tomatoes will get softer from the remaining heat without becoming mushy. If you like, garnish with pistachio nuts and cilantro leaves before serving. In Malaysia, dhal curry and Ayam Masak Merah are the popular combination. Sometimes, with Acar Timun too. (40) You can portion it into individual portions and store them in freezer-safe containers if you prepare them in large quantities. Just defrost it in the refrigerator for the entire night, then reheat it in the hob or microwave. (Adapted from: https://whattocooktoday.com/malay-tomato-rice.html) A It needs to be melted. I think you should join a singing class. Well, singing has been your hobby, right? So, this is the chance you’ll learn about techniques, vocals, pronunciation and voice projection. On top of that, the class has a very skillful coach, Mr Epol, who has more than 15 years of experience in this field. I’m sure he has all the answers to your questions. Not to forget, the fee is only RM15 per day, which is affordable. All the best! Mia [84 words] PART 2 Pelangi Indah Restaurant at Indah Beach Resort, just 2 km away from Indah Permai City Centre, offers an unforgettable experience. Its colossal and spacious exterior resembles a 5-star hotel.
