You know that computer is a machine. It runs on electricity. So,
you have to handle it carefully to work without any problems.
Keep in mind the following things:

Safety First:
• Be careful with ELECTRICITY!!!
• Always ask your teacher before switch on or shut down your

computer.
• Do not touch the bare

wires.
• Do not insert your fingers

into electrical slots.
• Do not pull any wire from

the CPU.
• Do not use computer with wet hands.

8Lesson MS-Paint

As you know, we can draw pictures and color them with the help
of a computer. You require suitable application software to draw
and MS-Paint is one of them.
Paint is a very useful program in MS-Windows to draw different
shapes. It provides you a pencil, a rubber, a color box and many
other tools. We need to click on the tools as we want to use
them.
Starting MS-Paint
Step 1: On the Windows desktop, click on the Search Windows
icon.
Step 2: Find the Windows Search Box.
Step 3: In the search box, type paint.
Step 4: Click on the Paint option in the search results.

PAINT WINDOW
Paint window has two parts:
1. Ribbon

Ribbon provides you the different tools with which you can draw
various shapes and color them.

 Find the Shape Group on Home Tab.
 Click on the Oval tool.
 Bring the mouse pointer to the drawing area.
 Click and drag the left mouse button to the desired size.
 Release the mouse button.

Coloring the Circle
Choose the desired color from the Colors Group.
 Click on the Fill with Color tool from the Tools Group.
 Click inside the circle that you have recently drawn.

 Now, draw different shapes in the same way and apply a
desired colour inside it.

Closing the Paint Program

 Go to File Menu.
 Click on Exit.

Main Points to Remember

 Paint is a computer program used to draw shapes and
pictures.

 We use mouse to draw pictures.
 We select a tool by clicking on it.
 Dragging the mouse means holding the left mouse button

down and moving it to the desired place.
 You have to select the color from color box before making

any drawings.
 Always click the left mouse button in the drawing area to

make drawing.
 Circles are drawn using the Oval tool from Shapes Group.
 Fill with Color tool can be used to fill color in the different

shapes.
 Fill with Color tool is found in Tools group on Home Tab.

9 Drawing in Tux Paint

In the previous chapters, you used a drawing application, MS-
Paint. Now, we are using another wonderful drawing application
called Tux Paint.
You can also use sound and readymade pictures in Tux Paint.

Starting Tux Paint
Double Click on the Tux Paint icon on the desktop.
You will see the initial screen of Tux Paint.

After sometime, you will see the main screen of Tux Paint. It will

Paint (Brush)

The Paint Brush tool lets you draw freehand.

How to use Paint Tool?

Step 1: Click on the Paint Tool.

Step 2: Choose the desired brush in the

Selector on the right.

Step 3: Also, choose the desired color in the

Color palette towards the bottom.

Step 4: Click once in the Drawing canvas

or

Hold the mouse button down, and move the

mouse in the Drawing Canvas, it will draw as

Note:

When you click on the Paint tool, several brushes will
appear in the Selector panel on the right.

Eraser Tool
You can use the Eraser tool to rub any part of the drawings.
How to use it?
Step 1: Click on the Eraser tool.
Step 2: Choose and click on the shape and size of eraser in the

selector panel on the right.
Step 3: Click the mouse button down and move the pointer to

the part of the drawing, which you want to erase.

Stamp (Rubber Stamp)
The Stamp tool allows you to paste different pre-drawn or
photographic images (like a picture of an animal, or a fruit, or a
machine) in the drawing canvas.

How to use Stamp Tool? Click this button
for more brushes
Step 1: Click on the Stamp Tool.

Step 2: Choose the desired stamp in the
Selector panel on the right.

Step 3: Bring the mouse cursor in the
drawing canvas and click on the
desired place.

Now, repeat the steps 1-3 to paste other
stamps as shown in the example below.

Note:

When you click on the Stamp tool,
several stamps will appear in the
Selector panel on the right.

Coloring the Drawing
In Tux Paint, you can fill the different colors in some ready-made
drawings. You have to use Fill selector of Magic Tool.
Follow the below steps:
Step 1: Click on New tool.
Step 2: Select any drawing in which you want to fill color.
Step 3: Click on the Open icon or double click on it to display it

on the drawing canvas.
Step 4: Click on the Magic tool.
Step 5: Choose Fill from the selector panel of Magic tool
Step 6: Choose the color from Color of your choice selector
Step 7: Click on the desired part of the drawing.

Closing the Tux Paint application.
Click on Quit tool.

The following dialog box will appear.

Click on Yes, I’m done! button.

Tux Paint shows the below window and asks you to save your

drawing.

Note:

You will learn how to save your pictures
in Grade II.

 Tux Paint has a lot of creative tools.
