Dear EWTN Family, In the 1970s, Mother Angelica was concerned that many Catholics were poorly catechized, falling prey to false teachings, and leaving the Church. And she was also tired of unwholesome – and often blasphemous – programs filling television schedules and broadcasting to families around the world. She knew that people inherently yearn for truth, for beauty, and for goodness – all of which are found in our glorious Faith. And she also knew that people worldwide could better understand the teachings of the Church if there was a television network that proclaimed the Gospel. But how could a cloistered nun start a television network? She had $200, no experience, and a garage-turned-studio. In worldly terms, she had nothing. But what she did have was faith that could – and did – move mountains. This is how she started EWTN. She also knew that – if God wanted the Network to thrive – people like you would step forward in faith and generosity to continue this mission. More than forty years later, with the providence of the Lord and your incredible support, EWTN reaches people worldwide with the daily Mass, the Holy Rosary, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. EWTN touches hearts with inspirational programs on the saints, the Most Holy Eucharist, and Sacred Scripture. And EWTN News has a global reach with news from a Catholic perspective. You are an integral part of EWTN’s story, which is why I’m pleased to share this Impact Report with you today. Inside, you will see the places EWTN reaches, the upcoming programs in production, and much more. You will see how your donations support this work of evangelization – and the ways each gift proclaims the Eternal Word to the nations. As our reach expands and more programs are created, we also remember that we are here for the individual. We are here for you. As Mother Angelica said in a 60 Minutes interview back in 1985, “Maybe I have built this entire Network for one person.” As she said many times, everything would be worth it if one soul turned to the Lord. This is only possible with you at our side. So please take a few minutes to see how you are bringing the Gospel to the nations with your support of EWTN. Thank you for being part of the EWTN Family. Sincerely in Christ, Michael P. - Mother Angelica Our Mission (1923-2016) “ We need to tell the Gospel and to show the people how they’re loved by God. If ... the Lord is helping you [through EWTN], be generous. I happen to think that this country needs this Network, and we need you.” “ The essence of evangelization is to tell everybody, ‘Jesus loves you.’” -Mother Angelica A D V A N C I N G T H E T R U T H O F T H E G O S P E L Mother Angelica had a simple goal for EWTN: to evangelize through media. From the beginning of the Church, the Apostles used their available methods to proclaim the Gospel – person-to-person and with handwritten letters. As the centuries passed, especially with the invention of the printing press, the faithful evangelized with books. In the 20th century, people such as St. Maximilian Kolbe and Venerable Fulton Sheen used modern methods (radio and television) to reach the masses. In that vein, Mother Angelica wanted to tell the nations about Jesus – by using technology. This is still our goal today. With television, radio, online, and print, EWTN reaches the world with the unchanging words of Sacred Scripture and the Tradition of the Church. And now, as we are well into the 21st century, we have serious problems that need solutions. While the world is mired in confusion, we need the Gospel more than ever. As anxiety and depression are increasing, we need the Most Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. And as people are leaving the Church at alarming rates, we need the beauty of the Church proclaimed from the rooftops. Jesus is the answer to every problem, and we want the world to know this fact. In essence, that is the mission of EWTN. With your support, you are proclaiming His Holy Name. You are sharing the stories of the saints. You are telling the world, “Jesus loves you!” As a disabled senior citizen, EWTN has been my at-home church and has fulfilled my spiritual needs and given me spiritual guidance since I became disabled years ago! I don’t know what I would do without it every day. What a comfort it is to be able to turn on the TV and know you’re still part of your Catholic faith and community no matter where you are! Thank you Holy Trinity for your Gifts to us! Holy Spirit, please, never cease to Come to Us!” - Judith 3 4
