Through meetings, field trips, discussions, lec-

and William McCallister, Future Engineers of Amer-
ica members acquire information which will be es-
pecially helpful to them not only as Future Engin-
eers but also in any vocation they may choose.

However, FEA isn't entirely work. Members en-
joy themselves at social activities and thus build
character and personality, all of which goes hand in
hand with the development of individual tale nts and
skills--the goal of FEA.

It was this group which constructed the float that
won top honors in the Homecoming parade in Octo-
ber.

narration during the Christmas program.

Thespians,

Thespians aim to establish a nd a dvance standards of excellence in all phases of dramatic arts
and to create an active and intelligent interest in thi s activity among high school students.

They earn the right to the name by worki ng for poi nts in the schoo l ' s various p roductions, tak-
ing roles in plays, or helping on crews and publicity committees. Or they p e rform in some indi-
vidual activity, such as a reading for the annual Christmas program.

The role for this orga nization is not complete until the end of the school year, since students
in the fine arts field find opportuni ties for earning points throughout the year.

The Portia Club offers South High g irls opportunities to serve their school
and community and to enjoy a variety of recreational activities.

To start the year 1963-64, Portia members held a potluck picnic a t
Spring Lake Park. Nex t, they applied their energies to participating in
Homecoming. They built a float for the parade and served at a faculty tea
h e ld in honor of former South High faculty members.

During the Christmas h olidays, the girls undertook such communi ty pro-
jects as caroling in old people's homes and donating money, food, and toys
to a n eedy family and an orph anage. Another commu nity service effort was
the selling of bangles for the Nebraska Tuberculosis Association.

The Portias sponsored a "sock hop" dance for South High students a nd held
"bake sales" to finance other projects of the club.

A faculty te a gave the girls a chance to extend Portia hospitality to their
t each ers and to exercise their hostess abilities.

"Camping out" at Camp Brewster was a nother activity that brough t fun to
the club. For the evening' s entertainment, t he girls played games, sang
songs, and popped corn. At sunrise they had breakfast and went hiking along
the wooded trails of Fontenelle Forest.

The Portias climaxed their year with the annual formal banquet which
honors the girls who have participated most actively throughout the year.
