Packer GOLF CLASSIC

Another successful Packer Golf Classic was held Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Eagle Hills Golf Course. This year,
45 teams took over the golf course! Foursomes were made up of alumni from 1955 to 2016, along with
family, friends, SHS staff and administration. After golfing, the players were treated to a tasty lunch followed
by raffle and team prize awards. A big thank you to the golfers, sponsors, raffle prize donors and volunteers
for supporting SHSAA through this fun event. Money raised will go towards special teacher requests and
student scholarships. Mark your calendars for next year’s tournament! It will be held on Sunday, July

Packers GIVE

Thanks to all our fabulous donors, our first Packers Give was one for the books! During the online 24-
hour campaign, 288 Packer Backers raised over $12,000! Your support ensures SHSAA will be able
to continue with our mission to support alumni, the school and the South Omaha community during these
unprecedented times. Our Packers Give donors are listed below - both those who gave online through PayPal
and those who sent their donation to the Alumni Office. Thank you to all!
We also wanted to highlight the following:

• Donations came from alumni across TEN decades! From the class of 1939 (Lydia (Bovick) Seely and
Betty (Ziemba) Passanisi - both are Packer Centenarians, Betty will be 101 this month and Lydia will
be 100 this month!) all the way to the class of 2020 (thanks Brian Pichardo-Lara!).

• Nine classes (1960, 1961, 1964, 1967, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978) met their ten donor goal
which is five more than last year!

All that Packer love brings our 2021 total to $12,355! We thank you for your support in helping us continue
our mission. Packer Nation is stronger because of donors like you!

We Need Your HELP!

SHS Alumni Association continues to need alumni
support in order to meet our goals of connecting alumni
to each other, to current South students and to the
South Omaha community. That is why we are inviting
you to make a gift of any size to the SHSAA. We deeply
value alumni support as we realize you have many
choices for your financial support. We hope your South
experience remains close to your heart, fills you with
pride, and that you value the experience enough to
want it to continue for future generations.
There is a reason your mailbox and inbox are full of
donation requests this time of year – that is because we
are entering the “season of giving” which runs from fall
through December. We hope that we can count on your
support of the SHS Alumni Association.
When? Gifts must be made by year end, December
31, 2021, to be claimed as a charitable deduction for
2021. If you want to be part of the global initiative
known as “Giving Tuesday,” go online and make your gift
on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP
Donate to our General Fund: Gifts can be made

in honor or in memory of classmates, former teachers,
friends or loved ones.
Purchase a Brick in the Collin Stadium
Flagpole Display: A $100 engraved brick in the
SHS Collin Stadium Flagpole Display is the perfect way
to honor a fellow classmate, friend, teacher, special
mentor or coach.
Start an Endowed Scholarship: By endowing a
scholarship, you can create a lasting legacy, see the
immediate benefits of your gift, and also receive an
income tax deduction.
Organize a Reunion Gift: Reunions are a
perfect time to revive Packer Pride. Many classes
take up a special collection during reunion activities
while others donate any dollars left over from the
reunion to the SHSAA.

How? It’s easy to do.

Packer PRINCIPALS

As we welcome our next South Principal, we thought we’d take a look back at past principals. Each was
asked about their favorite South High memory while they where at the helm.

JODI PESEK (2021-PRESENT)

I am a proud South High alumni (1986). I started my career in OPS teaching Norris Middle
School. After completing a master’s while at Norris, I became the Program Director at Wilson
Alternative Middle School and then the Program Director of Blackburn. In 2019, I led the
restructuring of the Secondary Success Program (the OPS Alternative Middle School) and
became the Director of both alternative school programs.
I was blessed to have Joyce Christensen as my principal during my time at South High.
She was an excellent role model and leader. She believed in her students and expected
excellence. South High has always had a diverse population where every student voice is
encouraged and is supported and this is something that Ms. Christensen modeled daily.
I am thrilled to be back at South High School and it is an honor to serve the South Omaha Community.
Walking through the doors again last October felt like coming home. Once a Packer, Always a Packer.
