friendships as they consumed more than 750 dinners. The
dinner was also a great financial success, raising more than
$3,000 for scholarships. We thank Stan Prochop for donat-
ing the use of the South Omaha Sokol Hall to prepare the
food and serve our dinner. This is an outstanding contribu-
tion.

Planning started months before this event with Dick
Gulizia, Sue Smith, Tony Palma and Steve Cavlovic
seeking donations from various stores and suppliers before
the snow began to fly. Skinner Macaroni donated the
pasta, IBP donated the meat, Orsi's donated the bread
(even though this was the week after the bakery was
destroyed by a fire), Sam's Club donated food, Blue Bunny
donated ice cream, and the list goes on.

Tony Palma, Steve Cavlovic and Dick Jensen made Vic & Bev Riha with Daniel Joseph Riha, their first
the sausage. Sam Bonofede donated his delicious sauce grandson at the 1997 Spaghetti Dinner. He came to celebrate
recipe. Vic and Bev Riha,Julie Diehm, Dean and his first birthday with Grandpa and Grandma.
Candi Rezac, Tony Palma and Jackie Dower helped
make the sauce.

Volunteers started arriving at 7:00 a.m. to wash the
kitchen ware, simmer the sauce, cook the sausage, set up
tables and chairs, etc. About noon the crew (Vic and Bev
Riha, Buddy Benak, Julie Diehm, Tony Palma, Dean
and Evelyn Winther, Jan and Mike Gilbert, Dean
Rezac, Dick Gulizia and Sue Smith, Jackie Dower,
Mary Ann Moore, Patti and AI Miller, and Paul
Kracher) could finally take a lunch break.

The rest of the volunteers arrived in the afternoon to serve
spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert; to pick up trays and
trash, help carry trays to the tables, wash dishes, etc. Scott
Knudsen made the announcements and played music.
Sandie Casey and Wayne Yanovich were busy promoting
the 60's Dance to be held October 18 at the Mueller Hall.
They also sold more "Proud to be a Packer" ads to be run in
the Omaha World-Herald. Candy Rezac, Karen Wilson
and Mitzi O'Donnell sold alumni clothing. Rudy Tesar
and John KJ.·ayneski sold tickets at the door. Paul and
Judi Limas and Duane and Janet Katz sold raffle tick-
