ALBERTO RODRIGUEZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
HONORING MY FATHER, ALBERTO RODRIGUEZ,1936-2008
Al Rodriguez was a pivotal figure in the South Omaha community
for over 30 years. Arriving in Omaha in the late 1960s, he helped
establish and was active in many organizations that assisted not
only Hispanics, but all ethnic backgrounds. Al traveled as a child
with his family from field to field, harvesting fruits and vegetables.
The memories of working as a migrant laborer ran deep and
those experiences would later shape his activism. My dad strongly
believed that education was the key to reaching one’s potential.
He felt that young men and women should challenge themselves
in the classroom and give of themselves in their communities and
places of worship. Most of all, my dad believed in the limitless
possibility of the human spirit. This scholarship, in a small way,
honors his legacy and recognizes those students who exemplify
scholastic achievement and civic leadership.
With utmost respect,
Jerry Rodriguez
